I feel you! I have a little acne but mostly acne and no matter what I do I look super unnatural and cakey! Its horrible but I found this new technique that helps me alot. I use a light BB cream and stipple all over my face . Using a dense brush will give you more coverage so you wont need as much concealer. Then I take a little concealer and cover areas that need some more attention. I take a tissue and pat it over my face to get rid of any excess makeup and then apply a colored powder. It works for me and making me look more natural. I hope it helps you, let me know what happens!
Use a luminizing primer and if you must use a brush spray fix plus on it first before you add your foundation, and use a light coverage foundation then add concealer where you really need it. But, do not apply concealer close to the mirror, step about 3 feet away from the mirror (or talking distance) to prevent adding too much concealer, no one will go that close to your face. Or you can apply base with a beauty blender to avoid cakey ness. (Adds moisture to the skin & gives a flawless finish) Or apply with your fingers. ( warms up the product so it melt into your skin.) You can also spray fix plus after you finish your base, it will get rid of the cakey ness without losing any coverage. Trust me, I have tried everything because Im obsessed about having undetectable foundation and this is what I found works best. ( and I have a lot of acne scars too and it's easy to get the cakey look, I know how you feel.)
Lilly Pad Thank you so much!! This technique helped me so much better. Now my foundation looks 100% natural! I have a ton of acne scars and it gets cakey super easy and this really avoids that! Once again, THANK YOU!! :-)
I am so glad I helped, it feels good knowing that I helped someone who had the same issues as me. I think its all about the application, not the products used. Your so welcome :)
Too much concealer too! Not on under eyes though, on my blemishes :/. I think, "oh I still see the redness showing through, I should probably apply like 200000 more layers." Haha
I love your commentary. Its probably some of the most interesting makeup tutorial commentary I've heard on here, and it really shows your true personality. Awesome!
if i put primer on my face i WILL always look cakey................can i ask you a question? even if i exfoliate my skin or put bb cream on it or put foundation on it, it ALWAYS look cakey, no matter what i try to do, moisturize, prime and such kind of things don't help me at all, HELP!
I have super dry skin because of my acne. The best way I have found to apply is with a sponge by "patting" the foundation on the skin. This way you are not moving around the skin flakes with a brush or your hands but instead "patting" them down. Make sure to exfoliate regularly as well. Hope this helped.
If you don't have perfectly flawless skin , or aren't in the lighting that these youtubers are In, your makeup will look cakey. Acne and pores make bumps in your foundation causing it to look cakey . You can't do anything to change that .
funny how the youtube makeup artist all use special lighting... this is a cake face. In natural lighting anyone that uses a medium to heavy fountain with setting powder will always have a cakey face. It's the truth.
I've always thought the same, in front of the camera takes so much makeup away, and needed to put some more and more and It looked good in camara, but in person was toooooo cakeey :S (Sorry for bad english)
i have alot of blonde facial hair and im too embrassed to ask my mum for some sort of cream for it but when i wear foundation it makes my makeup look cakey! any tips on getting rid of the hair, i cant shave because it breaks me out!
lucykr hey everyone has facial hair believe me EVERYONE. Some isn't as noticeable on some people than on others. Your mum was a teen once, she'll understand.
Don't do anything to your facial hair, especially if it's blonde. I'm a 22 year old MUA with blonde hair as well and it's not worth it ... your hair will grow in darker ... sometimes it's best just to accept the little things about us and focus on our best features. Make sure that your foundation is the correct color and be easy on powder, it should help a little.
It could be the foundation brush you use as well as the technique. I have had the same problem but figured out an awesome technique to make your foundation look more like skin! I think I'm going to do a step by step on that this week on my blog if you'd like to check it out! Trust it took me forever to figure out how to stop looking cakey :( hope it helps !xoxo my blog is www.makeuplooksbydili.blogspot.com
if your skin has gone really dry try up clean fats in your diet , like hemp seed oil or flax seed oil (non fried) give it couple weeks and you should notice a difference , add like 2-3 teaspoons and you will see
I do all that and it still looks cakey. I noticed also that when I use a setting powder, it makes my skin look dry and it shows my pores although I used a minimized pore primer. What am I doing that is wrong? 🙁
I adore watching your videos, let alone just listening to you talk haha you're so funny and energetic. A lot of gurus out there are too serious, you're more entertaining and don't sound so bored :p
i have long been seeing in you in the channels of michellephan, promise & bethany but i have never watched your vids. but now, seriously, first time to watch your vid & i LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! subscribed!
I watch andrea's videos everytime like when Im sad/mad/happy/bored. I just love her :P her videos make me happy, even though I watched this b4 o-o like 6 times :D
Apply concealer with your CLEAN finger tips! The warmth from your finger tips helps it melt into your skin. Also for more coverage just dap it don't "rub". Hope I helped!
That was actually really informative. I have never used a concealer. My every day face consists of 2 layers of MAC pro-longwear and then a 3rd just on my cheeks. And i always wondered why my skin looks so rough...i thought it was just my skin but I am going to pick up some concealer tomorrow and try this routine. It's true, the foundation is just to even out the skintone and then what you put on top of it (blush, bronzer) will finish the look :) Thanks so much girl! oxoxo
Thank you! I always feel like I wear too much foundation by the time I've finished putting on my eye make up xP now I've been introduced to the thought of not putting too much powder on at first because I reapply throughout the day and that's what gives the cake face look.
You are naturally stunning. I don't see the need for "that much" make up on you. I don't mean that in an insulting way. You are magazine ready by the end of this tutorial. Great advice - Thanks!
that was a really good video, i like how you explain why you should do things ie the importance of moisturizing. i love all your little tips and fun facts!
well exfoliating isn't necessarily *cleaning* your face. exfoliating is to get rid of old dead skin cells; facial soap is for keeping your face clean. and there are mild daily exfoliants you can use instead of hard scrubbing stuff.
I do the exact same thing!!!! but with a rimmel highlighter and then I put a super light unifying powder because I have oily skin and it works just great for me! :)
First time viewer and I am totally subscribing... I like how I can actually see the products. Other videos have the light either too bright or too dark to see anything!
Wow.. this actually helped a lot! I put like three layers of foundation when i wear it because it never actually covers my acne :) now i know that concealer is for that :)
I'm no expert, but if this is an issue for you I would suggest maybe only truly exfoliating your skin once a week or so with actual exfoliating product, but then the rest of the time try washing your face with a sensitive skin cleanser on a wet wash cloth. I think even doing that twice a day might be better for you than exfoliating so often if it's really drying your skin out :) Plus I do feel like washing your face with a wash cloth helps exfoliate a little too.
My little confession is that I love to put primer more than what I should. I also cant help it when it comes to applying bronzer and blush. I have been getting better at not over doing it with the blush but I need to put down the bronzer.
Thanks so much for this advice. I remember quite a few times when my face looked and felt cake-like or really wet and always wondered how to avoid that problem.
Actually, some highlighters like the Josie Maran look really good when mixed in with foundation (unless you have oily skin). I don't know about Elf highlighter though because I've never tried it.
Truth is i have great skin and i use foundation only to even out the yellowness around my mouth and the light freckles i have on my face,i always moisturize let it dry and then apply foundation and i never pack on too much foundation and yet when iam outside it still shows iam wearing it.when you are indoors everything looks flawless but when outside you see the truth of how it really looks so i always keep in mind that less is always better specially with foundation.clear skin or not makeup still shows out in daylight.
OMG don't every dye your hair black again! I love the brown it looks so much more natural which fits you because you are so beautiful and flawless!! Oh and what spray do you use? @andreaschoice oh and thank you Lauren! I was debating if I should get the spray, and you made my decision for me(x I've never heard of that before! @Lauren Vreken
@shibbydoo322 Sometimes i put concealer under my eyes and sometimes i don't. i=It really depends. But i usually have the same problem! You should try finding a tinted moisturizer instead because its lighter and wont look too cakey. But dont use a moisturizing under eye cream though, just apply your daily moisturizer all over your face before you apply your makeup. Hope this helps! xo
YOU HAVE GIVEN ME WINGS lol yass this is my number one problem . I felt like no matter what foundation i used it still looked bad even with primer !Thank you
OMG I hate when I get cakey foundation or concealer. Anyone else feel my pain? Thanks for the tips.
me too I hate how my face looks cakey after I apply it . it sucks
+Mary Rosé girl I feel like I haven't mastered the concealer yet. Maybe one day.
Its because full foundation is meant for photos and video not daily outings I think BB cream is for daily use
i think that you are absolutely true
thasha the jenitor
If I had had your skin I wouldnt aply foundation.
sad truth - I always do these things and my skin always looks cakey... + I have lots of acne scars, so... forever ugly skin with or without make up.

Your skin doesn't define who you are as a person. Acne or no acne you're still beautiful and I'm not just saying that to be nice and cliche💗
Too much concealer too! Not on under eyes though, on my blemishes :/. I think, "oh I still see the redness showing through, I should probably apply like 200000 more layers." Haha
+K Bakovic is there ne drugstore products just like those?
I love your commentary. Its probably some of the most interesting makeup tutorial commentary I've heard on here, and it really shows your true personality. Awesome!

I use Bio-oil (which most drug stores sell) on my face at night after I wash. That works really well for me. Also, O-Sea makes good day moisurizer
i use elf setting spray after your makeup is applied and it works so well for me to get rid of accidental cakiness!
well tbh your face could be really hairy, I'm not judging cause I have a really hairy face and it's hard for it to not look cakey no matter what I do

Not really its how u apply it
i love the way you talk and give instructions, it sounds natural and normal, i actually listen to all the stuff your saying
what you said about moisturizing really saved me and I'm so glad I came across your channel!!
Omg does anyone else think that she looks a lot like Priyanka Chopra! Great tutorial
Omg yes so much I told every1 they were thinking I'm crazy but they look so alike
OMG soooop true😂😂😂😂😂
No offence but Andrea has a prettier features.
+Shamas Ali I think she looks more like Rosario Dawson
Yeah a prettier and more natural version of her
i have alot of blonde facial hair and im too embrassed to ask my mum for some sort of cream for it but when i wear foundation it makes my makeup look cakey! any tips on getting rid of the hair, i cant shave because it breaks me out!
okay.. is it natural to have that much facial hair?
lucykr hey everyone has facial hair believe me EVERYONE. Some isn't as noticeable on some people than on others. Your mum was a teen once, she'll understand.

I was genuinely trying to find the spot you spoke of when applying concealer, I FAILED! Your skins perfect :)
LITERALLY do these steps all the time and still end up with cake face or my foundation disappearing. I don't know what else to do.
Me too. I have really really dry and flaky skin even without foundation. I want my oily Skin back. Its so easy to take Care of 😩
same, I even use the urban decay setting spray and I look gross when I look up close in the mirror

i luv how your mouth is open while your spraying your finishing spray on your face:) girl i luv u!
well exfoliating isn't necessarily *cleaning* your face. exfoliating is to get rid of old dead skin cells; facial soap is for keeping your face clean. and there are mild daily exfoliants you can use instead of hard scrubbing stuff.
I've seen stippling brushes before, but didn't know you could use it for foundation. THANK YOU!

you look so pretty even without makeup !! =)
your skin looked perfect even before you put anything on! you're so lucky ^.^
You're skin's so perfect it hurts.
Wow.. this actually helped a lot! I put like three layers of foundation when i wear it because it never actually covers my acne :) now i know that concealer is for that :)
my goodness, you probably will deny it, but you literally have perfect skin and lips with zero make-up!
Dealing with the same problem!so i tried it (the ELF highlighter plus foundation) and its GREAT! thank you soooo much!
I agree! I'm all about all natural products. Jojoba oil is also great :)
I'm no expert, but if this is an issue for you I would suggest maybe only truly exfoliating your skin once a week or so with actual exfoliating product, but then the rest of the time try washing your face with a sensitive skin cleanser on a wet wash cloth. OMG don't every dye your hair black again! I love the brown it looks so much more natural which fits you because you are so beautiful and flawless!! Omg you are absolutely gorgeous without make-up on!
Love this but I usually just apply powder on my t zone very lightly I feel like powder even a light layer can make it look a tiny bit cakey
put face moisturiser whenever u clean ur face it really helps i have that problem too :)
Hope this helps! xo
