Has anyone noticed that there were only two instances where the Murcielago was shown revving past 7k? And even exiting the final corner as the GT-R came to "overtake" it, Hattori still deliberately upshifted at 7k. Also the Murcielago's brakes fading down the back straight in the second lap but working just fine on the next and final lap which is barely believable. Also, ehy aren't the air cooling ducts open? The Exige losing out to corner speed and braking ability is a mystery to me, as physics would suggest otherwise. Lastly, DK Tsuchiya seemed to be deliberately missing shifts and hitting the limiter on his Gallardo. Weird for a world-class driver considering all his other videos barely show him on a misshift. Hmmmm🤔🤔🤔
That's a neat shift the guy obviously and deliberately did 1.5K RPM from redline there at the end 14:24. Not to mention the whole easing off the throttle thing. I know they have a story to sell but this is insulting to put it gracefully, next time come up with a better excuse, the good ole "shifuto-missu" for example.
I love Best Motoring, but this episode is so biased. The GTR was so light that they forgot to put fuel. The driver of the Murcielago was short shifting on the third lap and did some "mistakes" for the GTR catch up. In the final lap they faked that check engine.
Best Motoring, the only publication that tests cars with serious racing drivers on a track. Once you get used to their contents, most other reviews, impressions, tests, etc from the US or UK read like BS. That only seems logical because the usual auto journalist simply doesn't have the ability to explore the limit of these performance machines. Long live Best Motoring, I wish you all the best.

Compared to the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Lamborghini Murcilago's single clutch E-gear is smoother, but not as smooth as say... a Mercedes SL 55 AMG's gearbox or even the Nissan GT-R. Both Lamborghinis in the race had laggy gear shifts. And the exhaust is not strong enough on that Murcilago, very wierd that is. Weak catalytic converter maybe. The Porsche 911 Turbo is heavy turning into corners, it's suspension is a bit soft compared to the GT-R (the 911 Turbo, unlike the GT-R, dives into corners), one reason it couldn't keep up in the later laps of the race. The Lotus, well... it maybe good on Tsukuba Circuit, but here at Twin Motegi it ain't fast enough. Still a great little handling machine. The Nissan GT-R is definitely the king of Supercars (and maybe even Hypercars if tuned to somewhere at 2500 - 3016 hp) on any racetrack, even in the hands of a person with little racing experience. Just perfect.

Michael Gomez It's just that the gearbox in the GT-R has shorter ratios than any other Supercar. If it had longer ratios (like those sub 3000 hp Drag GT-R have...) it will have much higher top speed, like 350 km/h which is fast enough for factory spec car. At the moment stock GT-Rs can reach 315 km/h, that's it. It really needs longer ratios in 4th, 5th and 6th gears, then it will be considered a bargain hypercar.

No it's the power and grip level of the tire. the v8 in that ford makes 3-4000hp and a properly set up rwd will grip Better do to all the weight going to the back the front are getting lifted making awd useless, and on top of that you have to deal with krab walking.gearing is long in every car nowadays the viper reaches 60 in first that's a bs excuse on why it's slower.the real reason is low end torque there not enough to compete anymore

Interesting to think about the differences in OEM spec tires on each car. Also too bad they weren't able to get a 997.2 GT3 RS, or even a 997.1 version. My experience on track days tells me that the GTR weight penalty would be quite telling. But videos such as this one no doubt solidified the GTR's reputation for hanging with the best performance cars of the day!

Plus at the very end the gtr magically accelerates quicker than the lambo, even though the Lamborghini was clearly quicker the rest of the race.

The 911 to race the group should have been the Turbo S with PDK, not a manual Turbo! All of the other cars are dual clutch or sequential automatics.
