Bear, it's Mike the guy that sent you the Cook Set... I'm not associated with REI or Stanley... Just thought You and Blackie would each like the new and improved Cook Sets... Enjoy!!!
Great video!!!
Well thank you Mike..! I appreciate your generosity so very much.. I've had a LOT of fun experimenting with it..! Be safe out there..!
You're very welcome! Stay safe and well! God Bless!!!
goedemiddag Bear !👍
Good afternoon Rene..! 🐻
Like your videos young man - like the way you relate to folks and don't talk down to them - and you don't come across as a know it all - keep on doing what you do
Thank you for your kind words George.. 🐻
Hi 🐻, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺, thank you for your time to make these videos.
Thank you Owl..! 🐻
Nice! One of my favorite things is taking a little stove and relaxing with a cup of coffee in the woods 👍
Me too brother..! 🐻
I'll probably get the new model down the road but, the original is serving with my grayl just fine. Looks like good improvements though. Thanks Bear. My kids and I just cut/split 2.5 cords of wood. The wood shed is full. 9 days till grouse season, life is good.
The original Stanley is hard to beat Scott.. it is a step up in size alone..! Congratulations on splitting the wood..! I think it was Henry David Thoreau who said "wood warms us thrice, once when we fell the tree, once when we split it and finally when up it on the fire". Just out of curiosity.. how long will 2.5 chords last you (good luck on your hunt)..? Life is good.. 🐻
@@baileybrunson42 2.5 cords will take us through the winter. We haven't used the electric furnace in years, 100% wood. Our home is about 1000 sq ft
Thank you Bear, good review.
Thanks Miner..! 🐻
Good video Bear. Always enjoy some ol’ timer talk to listen to while I’m workin.
Well thank you T.. it's nice to know that someone is listening 😄..! 🐻👍🏻
Bear, I'm old style.I like the old style Stanley
Nothing wrong with that Steven.. I'm definitely not giving mine up either 😄..! 🐻👍🏻
@@baileybrunson42 The company is going to make it bigger and bigger and bigger until you gotta have a five pound bag on your back just to carry
Nice review Mr. Bear.
Glad you enjoyed it Tipper..! 🐻
Thanks for showing the new Stanley pot. It looks neat and much nicer. I have a solo titan with a cup it fits into. I use a Trangia with it and use the Trangia solid burner to elevate the actual burner to get the correct distance. It works for me.
Take Care and Stay Safe, my friend.
Thank you Damien..! My next purchase is going to be a Trangia. The Sterno wicked heater is good but doesn't seem to heat as efficiently..! Be safe..! 🐻
Greetings from Newfoundland Canada.
Thanks for the video, Bear 😀
I hope things are going well for you in Newfoundland Jeff.. it looks like you've been dealing with a lot of heavy (or at least persistent) rain lately.. stay warm and stay dry..! 🐻
I have a question. Does the old green cup nest in the new gray cup? Thanks for the video.
I haven't tried it but I think it will.. the green one is a 10oz cup and the grey is about 12- 15oz.. it will be a tight fit though.. 🐻
Daniel, curiosity got the best of me so I tested your idea.. green will fit in grey but it sticks way out of the pot. 🐻👍🏻
Hi Bear: I just watched some great hacks for your Stanley Cookset over at WayPoint Survival. Stove, handle, replacement lid handle, ect. Something to look into for you and Blackie, and to share with your fans. Going to put some of them to good use with my original set.
That's awesome Gene.. I'll have to see what James is doing..! 🐻
Excellent video Bear. Thank you.
Thanks Kaz..! 🐻
It's certainly a matter of compromise, more volume = greater overall size/weight. I like and need only the original cooker, but see the advantage of the larger cooker for some. I like the quality of these Stanley pots, they are worth the asking price IMHO. Got mine at "Americas retailer" years ago for a little over $10. Nice review Bear.
Thanks Gunner.. the weight difference is really negligible and I bought my original Stanley at the same place too 😉..
Bear, Thank You Sir for sharing this on the cook sets. Thanks Again for sharing .God Bless Y'all You and Mrs. Bear.
Thank you Tim and you're welcome..! 🐻
@@baileybrunson42 Mary Lynn and I are celebrating our 28th anniversary in Vanderbilt and she is getting better .Thank You Sir For All You Prayers. Beating Leukemia will a big ol' Hickory Limb so it will be afraid to come back.
Happy anniversary to you both..! Please let Mary Lynn know we're thinking of you both.. and hope she continues to improve.. it takes a lot to do what you yourself are doing.. staying strong for both of you. You're a real hero Tim.. I mean that.
@@baileybrunson42Thank You Sir, Mary Lynn took care of me when I had my Spinal Stroke in February 18,2021 due to Covid and I couldn't feel or move anything from my chest down. Now I walk with a cane and I let people know God and Prayers got me out of the bed and wheelchair. You are Also A Hero raising your grandkids. I do like when Y'all do deer scouting and small game hunting.
Hi Bear. I've seen a few reviews for the new Stanley set, but a comment you made to use the sets together made me wonder if the old set will nest inside the new one, possibly by removing the handle? It would seem to be a great way to increase the cooking capacity without taking extra space in the pack. Thanks for the videos.
It would be great if they would nest properly but unfortunately they won't. They do however rest comfortably side by side in the trusty Blackbird haversack.. 😉..! 🐻
Out of stock at REI, but you can order them direct from Stanley. I ordered one today. 28.57 including taxes and shipping. I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks for letting us know Mark..! Is that 28.57 US dollars..? I'm glad you enjoy the channel..! 🐻
Yes. Ky sales tax is 6%. Cup set was 20.00. Guess the rest was the charge for shipping.
Looks better I had mine for yrs nephews got it now its earning its keep lol
Passing your old gear to someone who will appreciate it and treasure it is a good feeling.. 🐻
Thanks Bear - Matt
You're welcome Matt..! 🐻
Thank you brother. Great video and information. 😊
Thank you Gerard..! You're very kind.. 🐻
Hi Bear, great video. I just have to make this point. Sitting in front of a pot of boiling water is not a good practice. If you accidently bumped it when reaching for something you could get scalded down your chest and lap.
Very true Bill.. thank you for the reminder..! 🐻
Hi Bear 🐻
Nice stuff like always! In regards to the baby snakes 🐍 there’s something else you should know and keep in mind, their poison fluid is much higher concentrated as the one of fully grown snakes!!! That is what nature is doing for the little ones to give a good chance of surviving. So, don’t do the gamble 😢 We would VERY SADLY miss you 🙏👍🙏
That is a good reminder Michael.. thank you for sharing it..! 🐻
Bear, I think that new rubber tab might be silicone rubber which will tolerate a little heat if used on an open fire, a much better design than that plastic bail that can easily get melted.
You're right Oste.. when I went back and reviewed the video I caught that too. It is heat resistant silicone rubber 🤦🏻♂️.. my brain just wouldn't say it..! It's like the infamous "sweetgum/ sassafras" debacle of OW62 😄..! 🐻
@@baileybrunson42 right! I noticed the sassy gum, sweet frass moment. Gave me a 😁
Good video Bear , thanks for sharing , YAH bless brother !
Thank you Michael and God's continued blessings..! 🐻
I'm going with the old style.....I have a stainless ozark trail cup with it and have used this combination for the last 8 yrs.. It does me well and keeps the size down....... as far as the lid lift burning off , the instructions state not to place this on an open fire ! .....I use propane or alcohol as my cooking means or coal/indirect fire..... the new ones nice ....But..... on the trail sometimes bigger is not better just to boil water mostly....and the ozark cup I use to cook other things or my stanley fry pan.....we have their basecamp set for the main camp and the stainless perculator
Sounds like you have the kit that is perfect for you..! That's fantastic..! I always encourage people to "do you.. don't do me". I also have the old style with the Ozark Trails cup.. the weight difference between the two is minimal at best. I intend to swap mine out as the urge dictates. I hope you have many enjoyable years using your kit..! 🐻
I hope to get one if they get resuplied and my budget is sound. You heat water or even milk in the pot. Part goes to cup for hot cereal and the other part tea or hot chocolate. Anyway you look at it you have a good stick to the ribs meal. Like Blackie showed you can make a small meal or a much more substancial for the next two meals.
Good info Willys.. I'll pass the word..! 🐻
I can't seem to get the Wildfare set in Australia ATM... I'll wait on it and just keep using the old set
Prima, you really can't beat the classics..! 🐻
depending on the age of the MRE the accepted hack for a recalcitrant FRH is to add some salt if it still doesn't work then it's back to old style atb Bill
Thanks Bill..! I'm assuming you mean plain table salt..? I may need to use that sometime soon..! 🐻
sorry should have specified use the salt from the accessory pack (assuming it's there)
Yeah, just good ole sodium chloride.. thanks for sharing that.. 🐻
Thank you, Bear. Can you tell me what the TOTAL capacity of the updated pot is (to the brim)?
The pot is graduated to 750ml.. if I were guesstimating.. I would say 900(ish)ml.. 🐻
I really like the lid with metal bail and silicone. That means stanley listened to everyone saying the plastic was bad. Many videos of people removing the plastic and making a metal bail.
I always like a bigger cup. Personally i like 20oz cup of coffee.
The biggest problem for me is stanley lasts forever. Its hard to buy something just for a lid and a little bit bigger cup.
The lifespan of a Stanley cook set is certainly one of the great mysteries of life Richard 😄..! I also like multiple big cups of coffee throughout the day..! My preference is a 20oz stainless steel from Mountain Trails (it also has an indefinite lifespan 😄)..!
I suggest walking that ragged edge of disaster and getting the extra set.. 😉 in the long run you won't regret it.. 🐻
@@baileybrunson42 lol you are probably right.
Thanks for the info 👍
You're most welcome User..! 🐻
Found your channel through Blackie. Just found out I somehow became unsubbed. First time I know of that happening to me. Others say it happens to them regularly on various channels
You're the first person who ever told me that Thomas..! Thank you for letting me know.
