      That's cool and all but who was recording her while she was walking? The camera was moving, but she kept remarking that she was alone.

    Great job. My husband and I have been doing the trail in sections. So, it’s pretty awesome that you’re doing it by your self.

    I lived in Huntsville until I was nine. If I had had a choice I would have stayed. My mother would always take me to Huntsville State Park to swim. I never went on the trails though but this makes me want to but I think I would stick to to the tent instead of the hammock for overnight sleeping.

    35 years ago. The trail was established and I could see the metal markers. It was over grown, step 10 feet off the trail, you have lost it. Today, its perfect with the help of volunteers.

    • @allen_p
      @allen_p 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's still a few of the original triangle markers on the trail in a few spots. It was hard to indicate a change in trail direction with a equilateral triangle, so rectangle markers are used now.

      At the very end of the video, she mentioned it was during Spring break.

    • @allen_p
      @allen_p 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      March after a particularly wet Spring. She skipped the end of the trail, Winters Bayou section as it is very flat, mostly in flood plains, and water can stand on the trail in spots. A bayou and river crossing over long bridges makes it scenic, but can be wet.

    Just getting into backpacking. Hoping to do a solo loop somewhere soon. Can you recommend something around 5 miles with primative camping?

    • @justinrogers9576
      @justinrogers9576 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      pedernales falls has a few loops like that

    • @allen_p
      @allen_p 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are many "loops" on the Lone Star Hiking Trail(LSHT), West of FM 149. t can be accessed by using LSHT Trailhead # 1, 2, 3, or 4 Study maps and take a map with you... Get map at lonestartrail.org/maps/medium/01wilderness_sc.pdf The LSHT in Black, Little Lake Creek Trail (outer loop) in orange. Use several crossover trails between the LSHT & LLCT to create a loop. Deer hunting season you must camp in established primitive campsite. Info at www.lonestartrail.org

    Emily, happen to know your pack weight at the start? Did you cache water or filter it every time? And did you bring food for the entire trip or cache/resupply? Thanks! Cool video

    • @allen_p
      @allen_p 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NENi ONER, I hiked with Emily some. She filtered and cached gallon jugs of water at road crossings. She did resupply with food at Huntsville state park. I can't remember her pack weight exactly, but I remember thinking it was heavy.

    • @barlosxantana
      @barlosxantana 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allen Pape thanks brother. Looking to thru hike this trail and I was curious how the caching and resupply was handled. Thanks for the reply!

    • @allen_p
      @allen_p 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always cache water. The LSHT can be dry, at times, on the Kelley, Phelps, Big Woods, & Tarkington sections. Having too much clean water in a very good problem.

    Tip: on open exposed areas like the road she had to walk on bring a lightly colored long sleeve dry fit shirt and fisher's hat and bandana or shemagh (for the back of your neck) to protect your skin from the sun and you'll feel a lot less hot

    I like to Bikepack with a fat bike. Are bikes allowed to do this trail ?

    • @allen_p
      @allen_p 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Simon Leicester , The Lone Star Hiking Trail is a foot trail only. There are multi-use trails in the Sam Houston National Forest that you could go bike-packing. Go to www.samhoustontrails.org for information about the multi-use trails.

      Thank you for the confirmation.... I was hoping for a different answer, but wasn't hopeful of a different answer :-). was looking for long distance peaceful bikepacking opportunity, the multi -use (gas powered) area is probably not what I'm looking for..... thanks for your feedback.

    Teaching women to put themselves in danger...and now or later in life it catches up with them as lawlessness grows all around.....but it makes money, yeah. The woods, alone, are dangerous enough for men.
