Restoring a Broads Drainage Mill | A visit to Mutton's Mill on Halvergate Marshes

Visit Halvergate Marshes to and get an inside view to see the ongoing restoration work at Mutton's Mill in the Broads National Park.
The Mill originally dates from the mid 19th century but had fallen into a poor state of repair. Work to restore the mill began in September 2021 as part of the National Lottery Heritage Funded Water Mills and Marshes project. It involved bringing in a specialist millwright to work alongside students from City College, who learned traditional/heritage building techniques.
Our focus was on restoring the brick tower, cap and fan stage, repainting the brick and woodwork as well as fabricating and installing an additional pair of sails to the mill. The works will be completed soon in summer 2023, with the new Broads mills walking trail opening too.
