    My Foodsaver has glued-in gaskets. The box of replacements said not to remove old gaskets if they are glued in. I removed one anyway. With much patience I removed the upper gasket and glue residue, installed one new gasket and it vacuumed again like new.

    I just picked up a food saver 1075 for $24. With containers and bag rolls at goodwill. Vacuums not working but bag sealer does. I need a new seal that you just showed. Top black seal looks fine, bottom not good wt all. 17 various containers came with it. Figured it was worth the containers at least.

  • @dougc3086
    @dougc3086 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Do use a screw driver and open it up to discover that you have crud in the vacuum which is the real reason that it doesn't suck. Also add a touch of grease to the piston after you have soaked and cleaned all the parts; be careful when removing the first cap on the vacuum it has a peace of rubber that only goes in one way. Keep this in mind when taking it apart.

    This is a wonderful video and it saved me a lot of money! I pulled my seals out and reinstalled upside down to find the fresh side worked even better. You do have to push in the sides first and then work your work to the center because it seems more material is present than was in before! Anyway, this time, I didn't have to buy anything and now it works. Again thanks for the great tip. Saved me a hundred dollars!

    Thank you so much! I have a nice 4400 food saver that I was going to throw away untill I saw your video. Mine is a little different with the top oval seal hidden inside. Well, when I checked those seals out, they were really dirty. I was able to clean the upper seal with a microfiber and a fork to reach and just pulled the bottom tray out and cleaned the lower one, easy peasy. So I then fired it up and it works better than the day I got it! Didn't even need to replace thos pesky seals and saved almost $200!

    This is fine,if you have a model that you can find cheap gaskets.That is mostly for Food Saver.For other brands,not so cheap.I'm thinking,if I can put something under the gaskets to make the seal tighter,that might work.Was hoping to find someone who had done that.

    Hi, when I am sealing something the 'seal' light does not come on; however it does vacuum the bag but the machine runs until I finally stop it manually, As soon as I release the latch the bag fills up with air---it did not seal. Per FS's advice I purchased a new heat tape...actually got 3 of them for $7 from Amazon. That did not fix the problem. I read about removing the 2 foam gaskets, rinsing them in water, etc, but that did not help either. Do you have an other suggestions or an answer. FoodSaver is NO help. After several phone calls to FS and not getting anywhere I finally bought another FS....but I'm having a hard time wanting to throw the old one away because it does seal containers; it just won't seal bags. I'm still hoping to fix it. Can you help?

    After throwing 2 machines away the third did the same as above. What happened was the gasket dried out and became porous. I took a paper towel and wiped down the gasket with cooking oil, water will also work until it dries up.

    Thank you sir. I have an older model that was great for years and years, and last year or three has been doing that 'not enough vacuum' thing just like yours. I really didn't want to spend a ton of money to buy a new one, and the new ones don't even look or work as good as the one i have. Anyway - the gasket fix you recommend fixed it right up. I had to dig the old gasket pieces out with a flat screwdriver - i think it's close to 20 years old - but i put in the new one in and it works again just like new. Immediately heard the difference in the pump sound and for the first time in years it now seals the bag again without me having to hit the button, just like it's supposed to. Thanks!

      A friendly Hello & some friendly advice for you, Eric...Never, & I mean *NEVER* buy a Nutra Chef food vacuuming system!!! Brand new ones, (not factory refurbished) have for me, lasted approximately FIVE MINUTES ONLY for two of them...Years ago I purchased an expensive Food Saver system which I quite liked (especially the fast marinating capability, but sadly, didn't last very long at all...I pitched it...Within the last 14 mo's I've purchased two brand new Nutra Chef systems at Amazon...The 1st one sealed THREE bags & vacuumed seal ONE bag...& that was it...I pitched it, too...Just spent $200 on fresh meat with the intention of saving space in my freezer with my (stupid/naive me) newly delivered SECOND Nutra Chef from Amazon...Thinking whatever the problem with the 1st one had been, it was a fluke, & it couldn't/wouldn't happen AGAIN...It did...This time my new system sealed *FOUR* bags & vacuum sealed *THREE* bags ONLY...& that was it!!! Not to be overly dramatic, but my blood is "boiling"...After doing a little online research, I found this is such a common complaint with brand new Nutra Chef vacuum sealers...I feel heartsick just thinking about how much money & time I've wasted...Unfortunately, this rant has done very little to temper my anger... *: )*

    For those that need a quick fix while you wait on the new gasket, if you have extra weather stripping for your front door, you can try that. @@bandman1967 tried it... didn't work. I plan to order a new seal and open it up and see if anything is going on (or rather NOT going on) inside. Hoping maybe just an unattached hose.. or maybe it sucked up liquid and got clogged.

      Get the seals on Amazon and it will be as good as new. If you don't store it with the lid clamped shut, the seals will last a lot longer.

  • @darrenw.5237
    @darrenw.5237 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That did not seal at all after your fix. typically when those are working correctly they almost try to wrap the insides of them bags right around the contents and you can usually see the bag being scrunched up around the contents. You still had lots of air in that bag. May want to check the vacuum pump itself.

    • @BackwoodsGourmetChannel
      @BackwoodsGourmetChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. This unit is still work fine almost 2 years from making this video. I just used it today to pack 15 lbs if fish.

      @@BackwoodsGourmetChannel I'm not here to debate or discredit your fix, you may have well fixed the appliance but I'm wondering if something wrong with that particular bag you used. I did not see that bag even move when you put that vacuum to it which could also indicate a leaky bag as well. Just my opinion. You are right about the seals needing either cleaning or replacing as i just cleaned mine and made 100 % difference in the sealing time so I did learn something from your video, thanks for that.

      I'm not offended. I liked the remark--that means it's pretty easy. Women need to realize that our minds & bodies DON'T work the same. I've done lots of things men do, but many women (and men) can't. But it is nice that men can do some of the harder jobs --and it's nice to be pampered !

      Change the seals. Just a slight reduction in the vacuum will not trip the sensor to make it seal automatically. $8 and 2 min fix.
