    I got into SCCM on my first IT contract kinda by accident since our project manager let some of us move to doing helpdesk tickets and over there, I ended up just working on SCCM packages as part of the deployment. Feel really happy that I got into SCCM so early into my career, but I think its time to shift towards learning more Azure and general cloud for job security in the next 5-10 years

      I would agree. It sounds like are stagnant and that is not good. Put yourself out there, leave the comfort zone and check out a few more challenging technologies and see how far you can take it.

    What would be a right career/domain switch for a person who has spent time being a sccm administrator without letting go of the value of the past sccm experience.

    • @ITCareerGuide
      @ITCareerGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are a couple of options. You could go towards Service Desk management as the next step. SCCM is client (end-user) centric and if you can compliment your skill set in that direction it would be a good step.
      I assume you do scripting and you could build on that and "side-track" into Powershell or other scripting languages and think about automation. You will be surprised, but too many sys admins still don't know Powershell well enough. If you are good with scripting and creating packages, that is a way to go into system administration but then take it to the next level and specialize where those scripting needs are needed. I used my scripting skills when I specialized in VMware ESX/ESXi and as an example wrote a fully automated installer and configuration script that built and configured an ESX/ESXi host in less than 20 minutes - fully configured and cluster joined.
      But I think the main is - where is your interest leading you to. What do you like to do in I.T.? Maybe you need to focus more on the backend side of SCCM and less on the front-end. Hand the front-end off to the service desk, focus on the backend and it opens the door into system engineering or even database administration as an example. You will have to re-write your resume and maybe add a relevant certification in-between, but you set the limits. For me, the sky is the limit. What's yours?

      @@ITCareerGuide thank you for a clear explanation, I should work on powershell scripting skills.There's always a concern that Sccm skill will become invalid in near future.I want to explore AWS however I am uncertain if I can make the switch as I will always be a newbie and here in India there are already a lot of people in job market with hands-on/real time experience in AWS.Like you said I set the limits :)

    Wow, the moment I get lured into SCCM/Intune hearing how one can make a ton of money with this tool, you come on and explain how this is not the way to go!
    haha! Story of my life I guess!
    Since you seem to know this field in and out, maybe I could pick your brains a little.
    I'm relatively new to the IT industry and currently working with an infra related role which includes working on AWS, Azure, Linux mainly. I'm not too deep in any of those. Do you think getting into SCCM/Intune can be a good combination with this? I'm not a software engineer. I like bash scripting and that's the closest I've been to writing a language.
    I was majorly trying to study SCCM for the compensation factor.
    Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Oh and btw, thanks for another great video! I really appreciate how much effort you put into these videos to help us budding IT folks!

    • @ITCareerGuide
      @ITCareerGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I would have the option to choose between AWS and Intune/SCCM then AWS would win hands-down. If you go into SCCM/Intune you need to watch trends more closely and adapt. A lot of that work is target of automation in my opinion.

    • @pavankumar-nr4mv
      @pavankumar-nr4mv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go for aws role then you need to be master in aws and atleast you should have some real time exp and there is so much competition in India you can say like for one aws job you will get at least 10000 profiles where as if you go with sccm, intune and Aws or azure there is no competition no body knows about sccm or intune

    SCCM is a great tool to administer a domain/network but there are other tools that can do the same thing for you without all the heavy duty stuff SCCM requires.

    • @ITCareerGuide
      @ITCareerGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, absolutely agree with what you said. I think MSFT knows that SCCM needs to change and they are shifting a lot of that functionality into the cloud. But I think it is just a step one and that they are planning for major changes related to that as well.

      @@ITCareerGuide I haven't had the chance to play with the new manager yet but I will at some point. I use Manage Engine Desktop Central and Smart Deploy to do the things SCCM does now and they work great. I can push all patches, deploy software and create machine-less images very easy. Smart Deploy also supports live over internet imaging as well.

    Excellent! I was actually going to pursuing the SCCM certification. Now I thought of moving to MS Azure certification. I am currently working as a Service Desk/IT heldesk in one of the leading MNC's. I have made my career road map. Qucik Questions - Can I shift to MS Azure though I don't have any past experience in MS Azure ? Also I belong to non-technical background

      I think Azure in general offers more entry points to a new position and longer term is the better way to go. You will have many more options within Azure/Microsoft 365.

I have done az-900 as we are migrating to azure.. and learning azure admin certification… but i need to switch to azure devops role.. i have been studying azuredevops with ci cd pipeline, docker and az-104 certification…. But is it possible to switch just by having knowledge but not actual hands-on experience?? I don’t want to start as a fresher again and i hope my sccm/packaging experience would benefit me… please suggest 🤔🤔

      It is not a bad choice, but be aware of industry trends and what Microsoft is doing. Follow those trends where needed and be prepared to deviate. It is extremely unlikely that a role in IT will be the same 5 or 10 years from now compared to today. If your skill set stagnates ....
