    In this video, I waited to see the ultimate results. It would have been nice if you showed an example of what one could achieve by using your cables and perhaps the different antennas that could be attached. You could maybe avoid questions like the one below mine "what is the purpose of this modification?" Thanks for sharing. Dj Soul Force

      Hey DJ Soul Force, the purpose of this video is just to show how the mod is done for my customers. You can search DJI ItElite on youtube and you'll see lots a videos of the end results.

      Ok, thanks. I must have missed the part about using the ItElite antenna, this appeared to be just a cable swap mod, that's what made me ask, "what's the purpose of this mod?" Does your website offer a variety of antennas to complete the mod? Thanks, good video. DJ SOUL FORCE

    If you tie a string to the end of each old cable before pulling them through,you can detach and tie the stringsonto the new antenna wires to guide them back through,it makes it a little easier.

    The mistake I initially made was I forgot to cross the wires and experience some weird interference on my first test /w alientech. As for the original antennas if you turn inward or outward just passed the lock position you can remove em easily by hands.

    What type of antenna were you planning on screwing into the controller? I purchased the ArgTek range extender kit and the antennas do not work at all. The wires were installed correctly, but now I have the two adapters on the outside of the controller that you have. Basically you could screw in an antenna. Where are you going to get the antennas you were going to use?

    Nice tutorial. Isn't one of those antennas 2.4ghz and the other 5.8ghz? You don't show the connections to the external antennas, so how do you know which one goes where? With this mod and the replacement antennas, how directional is it? Does the TX have to be pointing directly at the quad? What if you are flying overhead or behind? Just some questions ... Thanks.

      From what I've read you have to orient the transmitter towards the Phantom like you would with the stock antennas or you will lose signal.

      Yes Bill, this is a very good video that has missed an opportunity for it to be a GREAT video - if only it was finished, and brought to a conclusion. We want to see the antennas attached and it tried out to actually SEE if it's worth it or not. A great opportunity missed I feel.

      No. On the P3 series, both are 2.4 ghz. On the straight P4, both are 2.4 ghz. On the other P4s, both are either 2.4 ghz or both are either 5.8 ghz depending on what is chosen in the app.

    Stupid question, once you've closed it back up and all is well, how do you know which cables go to port 1 or 2? I see they're crisscrossed in the photo, still waiting to get my extender so I don't know if they're marked or not....

    When you connect the small end of the antenna cables to the inside of the controller does it matter which port you used? I believe you connected the left antenna to the far right port, would it make difference if you did it the other way around? What about switching port 1 and port 2 on the ITELITE antenna itself when attaching the antenna to the controller? Thanks!

    • @maxxuav6549
      @maxxuav6549  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, it doesn't matter. You can connect it to either port.

    • @neknim
      @neknim 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it makes no difference when installing the cables within the controller or when attaching the antenna itself before a flight. Thank you!

      Have a look at th-cam.com/video/sUlifOk2kTM/w-d-xo.html in that video the poster depresses the clips on the original antennae rather which means they can be reused etc.
      As per 7.00 in the linked video I personally after disconnecting the two small ribbon cables from the USB board I detach the USB board and then disconnect the big ribbon cable, I reverse this sequence for reassembly. Make sure that ribbon cable doesn't snag on anything as you open the controller body.
      Once you have the new gold coloured connectors ('bulkhead fittings') through the old antennae holes and secured the wires from new antennae just screw to the bulkhead fittings. I do not think it matters which lead goes to which bulkhead fitting as I have used a different version of your DBS both way up i.e. the connections have been reversed.
      DO NOT go crazy when replacing any screw, the plastic spigots into which the screws screw split easily.
      Also when putting screws back in I'd suggest starting by lightly pressing the screw into its hole and then turning it the WRONG way, you are then likely to feel the screw drop into its old thread, if you do you can then start to turn it the correct way but judge if it initially screws in with out any 'great' resistance. If there is intial resistance back the screw out and see if it drops into another thread which starts in a slightly different position. The idea is to get the screw back into the old thread. I know "'great'" is a subjective term and the required 'feel' comes from experience but thats the best descriotuin I can give

    I have a question .. I'm saving for one of these quads and was considering the long range updating to the controller but no one seems to have any vids on upgrading the Quads ant's to match .. Was wondering if they are just cables with a exposed conductor in the legs as they look or is there a reason you could not cable to a RP connector on the body so as to add a circular polarized vid and a higher db gain rec ant's to match what you mount on the transmitter...?

    • @maxxuav6549

      Paul Mays upgrading the antenna on the drone is not necessary. People have done it, but I don't think it helps much.

    • @maxxuav6549
      @maxxuav6549  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tom Spurlock Hey Tom, the lock washer is too small of a diameter and would fall through the hole. I could ask for a re-design, but I haven't had any issues with it.

    • @TomSpurlock
      @TomSpurlock 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Maxx UAV convention says the lock washer goes between the flat washer and the nut. It shouldn't fall through, that's what I'm puzzled about. Sounds like a sleeve needs to be fabricated.

    Can you tell me why I do not show a large scale bar graph on my channel
    strength under the HD tab on the DJI GO app? My channels read out with
    just a tiny speck of light. I have no way of knowing which channel has
    the greater strength. I have seen this effect on other peoples videos
    but I have also seen the full range signals showing on other peoples
    videos. I am using an ACER 10 tablet and have NO OTHER issues other than
    this. I have re D/Led the app twice-no difference, I have looked
    through all settings for a possible solution but found none. I do have
    ARGtek antennas and 32 channels but this was happening before I made the
    mod. Does anyone have a hint as to why this is happening?

    • @bigjjones86
      @bigjjones86 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're getting 5km stock on a Phantom 4, then you're one of the lucky ones. 99% of other users don't get nearly that. With this modification paired with an ItElite antenna I've reached 23,500 feet, stock I could only reach 1500 feet. :)

    • @gtdrone21
      @gtdrone21 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jake Jones well is not even a P4 i have a phantom 3 pro , and thats the range that i get , 5 km with full RC signal , and a little low video signal but with no lag at all , i saw some videos of people adding the DBS antenna and with this mod you did and they can get 10 KM or more jeje , but there is not point of that , you are not going to be able to get your quad that at that distance, the only reason I'm thinking of changing the antenna is to get 720P video at 5 km , because as far as you go the quality is lower

    • @TheNMINC
      @TheNMINC 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As Jake Jones said lot's of folks, especially those in areas with high concentrations of 2.4Ghz radios, tall trees and buildings will benefit. If you're pulling 5k in distance that's kool and great for you! For those of us (me included) not getting that distance from the stock kit this product may help to achieve more distance on your flights. You simply can't put everyone in the same situation as yourself because we all fly in different environments and conditions that will affect range.

    I just removed my itelite and sending it back to amazon, not sure if maxxuav uses the same antenna. I fly from my back yard towards farm fields and I lost just above 1500 meters using itelite. I tried other places and I can't get the same distance as the once posted on TH-cam. For $109 it ended up a waste of money and time. I thought of adding a watt booster but Ithat would add to what I already spent. So for all of you that want to mod with these antenna, don't cut wires or destroy your stock antenna, test it out first and then make your decision if it works for your Phantom. I tested on it on both P3 Pro and Advance. What a bummer. I used to be able to nervously fly 6000+ meters until DJI shorten the channels.I guess I'll wait for the P5 and keep using paper parabolics for 4000+ meter flights. The only damage is the drilled holes on my transmitter.

    I want to use antennas mounted on my roof

    You might want to show why you crossed the cables. On the clean install kit the cables are also crossed AGAIN between the remote and the antennae. Which means you could have wired them straight. It's just a cable management choice. There was no explanation. Bear in mind that newbies watch these videos for a DIY guide. I wired mine straight outside the controller. Because I didn't know. not that clear until mistakes are made. Mine did not connect. Hope I didn't fry my controller. Pretty sure you owe me $109 bucks if I did. ;)

      +Jose Fanith sorry for not getting back to you sooner bud! This is not my main support channel. However, when you turn on the RC and Drone, go into the Go App, it should tell you if a firmware is required or not. If you still have trouble, contact me through the website and we can exchange phone numbers.

      Adding standard SMA connectors to it which allows third party antennas to be used for stronger signal / longer range.

    Now something you pointed out. "Do not turn on your transmitter or you risk frying your transmitter board." That is false your transmitter is basically a wifi router you can remove the antenna nothing bad would happen beside very weak signal. Now if you slash water on it and turn it on then you run the risk of frying it.

    • @maxxuav6549
      @maxxuav6549  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would still error on the side of caution. I've never fried one myself but I've been told by people smarter than me that it's not a good idea.

    • @UrAvgRasian
      @UrAvgRasian 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maxx UAV Of course its not a smart idea but when it said in the video hey you risk frying it im very skeptical of that

      if you pull the Ant off your WiFi unit at home it also can burn out the transmitter module... Any thing that transmits RF will cause the transmitter to overheat if it has no ant... The energy has to be dispersed into a matched SWR ant or the energy is converted to heat... If the output power is low it does not heat as much but it can deff fry the output IC .. Not an Issue on the Receiver side.. (5 ghz) only on the controller transmitter side...

      Absolutely agree - Bass Junkie must like playing Russian Roulette! Or he doesn't actually PAY for his own equipment - or is rich! Btw Paul, are you sure the Rx side of things is 5ghz? I understood Lightbridge was something else. Surely we couldn't get the range we get using 5ghz?

    • @maxxuav6549
      @maxxuav6549  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Tormey Lightbridge only uses 2.4ghz. The 5.8ghz is only in the Inspire 1 and M600 remotes, and it's only used to communicate with a second controller.
