Looks like the bolts in the springs are going to bottom out

I bought a spring seat for 02 xl custom 883 . It also doesn't quiet fit but I'll be making it fit. Might do a video as well incase I end up doing something different than you. I did notice I can bolt the seat back as far as I can and it helps with the springs sitting more upright. And I can fit mine into the front section you were grinding down without bending anything. I most likely will only need to drill holes into the base to screw it down. We'll see.

For starters I noticed a few things... you could’ve slid the seat back farther on the bracket that actually bolts to the seat. Also that bracket does not go underneath the cover frame bracket. It bolts to the top of it to make the front of the seat put up a little more.

Do they come with two sets of springs?

It only looks forward until you sit on it. Your weight is what evens out the seat.

This is literally the only video I could find that was helpful, thank you!
Edit: it is a very uncomfortable seat. I feels like I'm sitting on the bolts in the seat. Luckily I can do upholstry so maybe I can add a little more foam padding to it

    Nice ratty solution! :D
But the seller should have known that this is a kit for a rubbermount sportster. No wonder it won't fit.
You could have drilled that stock lip (the one that holds the front end of the stock seat in place and that you ended up trimming anyway) and just mounted the front part there. The kits for solid mount sporties seem to use that bit for mounting the springer seats.

I'm all for "fab" but this is a hack job... You can bag those 5" monster springs and order ANY length PROPER spring set down to a tiny 1'inch rise for about $8 that will attach correctly and look decent. It's gonna drop when you sit on it, but a 2 1/2 inch spring would have been a good place to start.
It also looks like you could have slid the seat mount into a better position on the seat itself, before butchering the holes. You didn't watch a single video to check out another bike before ordering a one size fits all part and bolting it on?
