I am from Texas (born in San Antonio) and my family still lives there. I moved back there in the late 1980's - early 1990's, and lived in Fort Worth, Arlington and Dallas (north). I loved it, but it's WAY too hot. Houston is even hotter, but it’s hot everywhere in the south. LOL However, as a retiree, you can find a really nice home for cheap, but away from the bigger cities (mentioned above). The idea place is suburban ural. That will afford you peace of mind and an affordable home, but within an hour or so away from shopping, activities, etc. My brother was a cop in Fort Worth for over 4 decades, and I rode in with him many times, and I worked in Fort Worth at the time. Like anywhere, there are good and bad parts. Notwithstanding, if you were not born and raised in Texas, SOME natives may treat you differently. Hopefully, that won’t apply to the elderly, but Texans are full of pride!
This is suppose to be a secret. Corpus Christi, and Port Isabel, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, all are goodies for retirement. If you like horses, then Skidmore of course.
I do too. I worked for IBM off of LBJ at in the day, and I lived on Beltline road. I met Too Tall Jones in a bar one day, and we hung out until 1 am or so.
You don't have to "fly over or drive over to Dallas" to see Cowboys (or the Rangers, for that matter) games. Both of their stadiums are in Arlington, a Fort Worth suburb located in Tarrant County, os which Fort Worth is the County seat, closer to the Cowboys's and Rangers's stadiums.
@@donmarek7001 low taxes? Have you seen the property tax and sales tax rate in TX? TX has one of the highest tax rates in the country. If your thinking about moving to Texas better sell all your toys first. All private property and no place to ride them. Two friends moved there and both hate living there.
Humidity sucks - so comfortable weather & a low cost of living are a priority - especially in Biden's inflationary America these days ! -- Austin is much too expensive for many !!! > Abilene or El Paso are far more ''affordable'' for stretching your budget ? -- Less humidity and discomfort too ! --- Your perspective is NOT from a retired person ! It's already too expensive where you are.
I agree Smokin. We looked all over texas & it's extremely expensive. TX property taxes in many cities are insane. We didn't find that it would be a good place to move. We would be going backward financially if we moved there. No thanks.

I took a class in Houston. Over the 9 months it was the worst weather, hot- humid- rain- flooding-
What's the best city for "retired" people??
The Bible says: "pride goeth before a fall." Not impressed with the pride.

Thanks for a great list.
Love Texas. Love the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton Metroplex.
I have lived in Fort Worth and Houston (Cypress). Love them both.

Defiantly a difference between Dallas and Ft. Worth. I have family in both and Ft.Worth is my favorite of the 2.

The Cowboys play in Arlington as do the Texas Rangers. If you live in Fort Worth, you are close to them because you are close to Arlington.
Awesome video my man New sub
I am from San Antonio and I will not retire in Texas. They have gone nuts down there.
SATX is a democRAT shithole; so I can’t disagree there.
Yeah low taxes and the right to self defense are really crazy concepts.
