    @yusufahasan Question please.
    Regarding 1:04:30, you state Thiol is more acidic than Alcohol. In page 51, OChem As A Second Langauge (First Semester Topics 4th Edition), it states: "The first factor (comparing atoms in the same row) is a much stronger effect. In other words, the difference in stability between C- and F- is much greater than the differnece in stability between I- and F-."
    My interpretation of those textbookwords would lead me to believe that Alcohol is more acidic than Thiol. Because it is more electronegative.
    However, that is not the case because Thiol has a lower pKa than alcohol, and you have said Thiol is more acidic. How am I misapplying the textbooks words?

    Great video. At 37:00 when you talk about primary carbocation with resonance being better than a tertiary carbocation, I think there was a very similar Uglobe question.
    It showed an Allylic primary carbocation reacting thru an Sn1 mechanism

    You da man Yusuf! Thanks for delivering on your word so quickly. Question, what’s the difference between resonance and induction?

    • @yusufahasan
      @yusufahasan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The inductive effect is the ability of an electronegative atom or group to withdraw electron density away from the part of the molecule it is attached to (thus leading to induction further down the molecule as well). Resonance is a literal MOVEMENT of electrons through a system of conjugated (parallel) p orbitals that makes the negative charge “delocalized” (localized = in one position at all times). I hope this helps!

    hey I noticed that you talked about hydrobromonation and you said it can come up on the MCAT every now and then but I have never seen this reaction in the book or am I missing something?

    I am having trouble understanding the relevance of this to the MCAT... where do we apply this information?

    • @yusufahasan
      @yusufahasan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it comes up sometimes as additional information to help answer questions about carbocation reactions, acid strength, and thermodynamics. Will you be tested on this directly? Probably not. Will you be able to understand a lot of biochemistry and chemical processes using this info instead of just memorizing? for sure
