A wonderful lecture by an eminent. Rabbi. He was. A. Great orator. Historian. ,lecturer and this. Topic is relevant to many. He. Examines a topic. Thoroughly inside and out. Practice following this. Thank you rabbi for this lecture. Perhaps if one learnt to forgive there may be more peace in the world oratleast peace between each other

Wonderful video and some very inspiring words from Rabbi Sacks. All of us as individuals can and should strive to bring forgiveness into our lives. Today I saw the film Invictus, and the spirit of forgiveness exhibited by Nelson Mandela saved an entire nation. Forgiveness; powerful and always relevant.

Some ongoing perpetrators expect forgiveness and feel entitled to it repeatedly. They have to held to account if they're ever going to stop. There has to be a change of path, then forgiveness can come.

In this video, from our Consider Forgiveness series, Rabbi Jonathan Sacks discusses #forgiveness and #Jewish tradition, reminding us that “Harboring a grudge or a resentment is a terrible weight to carry around with you. You have to travel light in this world.” As Rosh Hashanah begins, we wish our #Jewish friends and neighbors around the world a Happy New Year and reflect on the gift of #forgiveness.

The problem with unforgiveness is that it prevents us from dong the good in the world we might otherwise do because we are so wrapped up in our hatred and our pain. So there is no God and no goodness in our actions because we get so caught up in ourselves. Healing comes from looking beyond this self ...maybe we have to ask ourself what is this self anyway?

I think this could be the greatest clip on youtube. I just desperately wish I had the strength to forgive even though I know the Rabbi is right :[

While i think that forgiveness is the one thing that can free me from my angst and mis-deeds. Bringing it into fruition is another thing entirely. Plus - who the hell down voted this video?

If, as stated, it's all about the future... I'm wondering about now. If we are invested somewhere else... past, future, can we have enough energy for now? Now is all we have. Forgiveness, yes... now.

@TLCTugger the guide to the perplexed was not written for everyone. it was written to his top student who asked him a question, and Maimonides' response was the guide to the perplexed.

It is an obligation to forgive someone if they have asked for forgiveness three times and have ceased the offense. If the abuse was irreparable, say murder, etc, then forgiveness must occur in the next world. Have you asked forgiveness for what has happened between yourself and your ex? Has he asked for forgiveness.....I don't mean to G-d...forgiveness from each other. G-d will not forgive our transgressions against another human being. That is something we must ask of the other person.

i think that there are three types of forgiveness the highest massive murder/genocide/slavery second murder rape child molestation three words that hurt you can forgive words that hurt but i don't think that you can forgive the first two with out some form of justice taking place.
