not apples to apples but I've found the MIPI's on my vistas to be a bit of a weak point as well. Not a unique issue to HDz. congrats on 4th place! track looked fun :)
I built a 2s version after seeing your vid. I absolutely love my hdzero mobula7. BUT,,, 5 or 6 batteries in my foxeer camera stopped working. Now i am grounded for 20 days or so while my camera is on the slow boat from China..
I will get back to whoops when this 1S HDZero Vtx is available. I experienced a similar behavior with the whoop Vtx + HDZeroNano camera on my TinyTrainer. Sometimes after a crash or randomly after plug-in image gets black. Have not tried changing the Mipi cable, now will try and see if that is the issue. Thanks! Love your videos.
Looking forward to what HDZero has lined up for release. Watching Analog and HDZero back to back looks like the difference I see when putting my previous prescription glasses on. It is clearer but not sharp. 😆.
The weight penalty has become small. Certainly small enough for it to be of interest in my favorite class of quads - toothpick. It is amazing to see a viable digital whoop. There is still a cost penalty and these days I have to pinch my pennies awfully hard. I'm still hoping that the cost will come down a bit more. Watching HDZero closely because that would be my choice of digital as of today.
Would you ever consider running a proper canopy? Things seems to break a lot faster without one. And thanks for the video, I really like to get informed on HDzero and your videos are really good. The difference from analogue is not enough for me to up the weight and cost - yet.
Yeah, I've been a bit busy lately, but keep checking back. :-) If you follow my Instagram feed, then you'll know that I've also been tinkering with some electronics projects recently. I'll probably talk about those on the channel here in the future. I think there's actually quite a bit of overlap between the FPV hobby and the maker space in general.
@@MrShutterBug yes i know i just wanted your take on it. i was thinking about converting my iflight75hd but i am not sure on the durability of it with everything exposed. i was wondering if you considered a project like that?
Analog gets the job done for sure and the analog footage at the end of the video is about as good as analog can be. TinyWhoop Pinch cam + RapidFire + PowerPlay 60Hz DVR.
At first I was thinking you're rough on these 1S VTXes man! Enjoyable video, I had been looking forward to seeing you use this in a race. Excellent work with the custom camera and it looks like the whole system works together pretty well. Any idea what the deal was with the RF interference? You mentioned that was a surprise.
RF is always tricking inside a building with multiple pilots in the air. I think someone's VTX was outputting significantly more than 25mW. The analog flight was pretty clean because that was a different group of pilots and we had worked out the issues by that time.
Thanks another great video. Can't wait for the 1s vtx to be available! I built a 85mm HDZero after watching your video, didn't get it quite as light but a lot of fun, unfortunately eventually after much abuse, a tiny component detached from the board, it still works but range is much decreased, impossible to replace such tiny components. Also bought the Mobula7 HDZero, fantastic fun. Has an occasional issue when bat first connected image is garbled but reconnect and all ok. Do we know if the 1s is in production yet?
If you want a kit where everything is included, then the EMAX TinyHawk kits are pretty popular, as are the BETAFPV Cetus Pro kits. The Cetus has a beginner mode that tries to hold position for you. That can reduce frustration for younger kids, but flying takes practice for sure.
@@MrShutterBug sorry should have told you that thay are rather good in the simulator and are starting to get board of it so thay need something that will take a beating but also chalinge them
I have been flying fpv sims for the better part of a decade. I am 30, have 4 girls and I have gotten the okay to get a drone. However one thing has prevented me from pulling the trigger. The goggles. I know I want digital and I know I want good FOV. I also know I want to build and rip little toothpicks around. Do I go straight with dji and get the analog adapter and throw like a rapid mix on there or just go with something like a skyzone O4x and preorder the new HDZero system?
I should also mention I have not been able to find anyone near me that flies so trying on a pair of anything is out of the question and must rely solely on w Word of mouth / opinion / recommendations.
Sorry for the late reply. You can definitely use the DJI goggles for analog if you mount an analog module onto it. I know several people who have done that. I have not done it myself because I prefer to use my analog goggles when flying analog. They are lighter and more comfortable for me, plus I don't like the way DJI makes you access analog through the menus. But, if you know that you want DJI, and you also want analog, then that is an option that works.
@@MrShutterBug no I appreciate it! I've been watching your channel for some time and I love watching all the builds/conversions! I wound up going with the 04X and I'll get Hdzero at some point. I'm going to get a nanohawk next and do the nanobug conversion. Super stoked! Thank you for the insight and your contributions to the community!!
well, sorry to point this out, but all footage from HDZero looks like HD analog with noise filter vs digital DJI FPV system. And the reason for that that HDZero under the hood really send video in analog format and does post-processing on chip. The question is: Does this different flying HDZero is really that great vs HD analog?
HDZero does not transmit analog data. It sends digital packets as data is scanned across the line. Chris Rosser interviewed the designer. It's a great video if you're interested in learning more. th-cam.com/video/5YYr2gUEgLk/w-d-xo.html It is true that it does not look as crisp as DJI but you can definitely see a lot more detail in the goggles than analog, and the timing is noticeably more consistent than DJI. Both systems have their strengths.
Your goggles will work as long as they support HDMI input. The HDZero receivers are out of stock at the moment, but they are working on a new batch that should hit stores within a few weeks (according to what I heard previously).
You need to start your own brand. It would save waiting a year for someone to rip you idea off so I can then fly something similar. With a digital whoop my drone selection may be complete (for a while anyway)
We’ll, that would keep the MIPI from coming off, but I don’t think that was the problem. I think one of the tiny wires got damaged. Sealant on the connector could make it a lot harder to repair in this case.
Looks amazing!. I can't imagine how much more enjoyable an HD setup would be. I'm a newbie and would love to go check out Emerald City Drones in Arlington, Wa that you showed in a previous vid. Unfortunately I crashed my Eachine Novice II a month ago and after replacing the damaged motors it throttled up a lot more that it should all on it's own then disarmed. Since the area under the flight controller was extremely hot I assume that's the problem? I've been trying to find the replacement but can't even by the name NanoX F4FS V1.0. The closest I've found is the Crazybee F4 V3 AIO but have no idea if it would work. Any advice to help get me back in the air?
If it's throttling up then it sounds OK to me. make sure that you are ready to disarm and try to fly it. It is normal for the motors to go full blast if you give a little throttle and hold the drone still - it is because the drone doesn't know why it is staying still and trying to break free. If the drone tries to go to the moon when you take off then either 1) something is loose 2) props or motors are not correctly orientated 3) Filter settings are to little (see Betaflight set up) Bardwell has videos for trouble shooting this
I should have explained a little better my kids are getting tired of the simulator (thay are better at it then me!) And are looking to stretch there legs with the real thing. So with that in mind what's the most fun you can have on 1s that can take a a few crashes
Something like the Mobula7 1S would be a great option for flying both indoors and outdoors. It should be able to survive quite a few crashes, and if the frame breaks it's not a big deal to fix (E6000 glue) or replace. If you want something faster with more acrobatic ability, but still 1S, then I really like the 3" 1S Babytooth formula that Bob Roogie came up with (fpvcycle.com). I hope that helps.
bummer.. almost prefer the analog, I like the softer more natural look, Like how Plasma is so much nicer than LED screens. my problem is as soon as I see breakup, I'm done. I don't trust it and come home.
One thing we're starting to see as more people use HDZero at events is that in some cases, it can provide a usable signal in cases when analog is completely unflyable due to RF interference. That's been the case at a few events recently. It seems like a growing advantage to digital, beyond just image quality. In terms of overall image quality for HDZero, keep in mind that he's using a custom camera with a very lightweight lens. With the production cameras for the system, the image quality improvement is much more notable.
I love how whoop races are always at brewery's haha
Totally blazed through the track section around 1:42!
Yess I can't wait to get my hands on some 1s HDZero whoop VTXs!

But mob 7 was already out. This seems much more nimble tho 👍🏾
Can't wait for this to be available!

I gotta start going into Sumerian for these whoop races. Never raced before myself, but damn interested.

Is there a way to run the (upward connector) mipi cable down the back of the canopy? Maybe tie it with some thread?
Yeah, that could work. The canopy is a 3d print. I could probably add some loops to hold the cable.
