My OTP in the game. In all honesty Frederick is so much better for Sumia. I like Sumia but I hate her relationship with Chrom because Sumia on her own or with other people is a well rounded character with faults,personality and most importantly agency and Individuality in her life but when she is with Chrom any semblance of self is taken away from her. With Frederick however she is herself throughout the entire support and has clear definition of character and individuality. Not to mention you can see throughout the support why Frederick would fall in love with her as the support conversations between them shows that from the beginning the two had outright respect for each other that grows into a companionship and later romance and out of all the supports flows the most naturally. With Chrom however (don't get me wrong I like Chrom) he barley notices her existence at first and him going from friendship to love seems really unnatural. Anyway that's my rant SumiaxFrederick forever!
Same if I was playing as Male avatar I would pair him up with Sumia. That's a pretty good support as well with a nice through line and message of reality vs. fantasy.

Aw they do that? I've always thought they were so cute because of how protective he is and how much she could use protection but also all she tries to do, and I feel rainbows in my heart just thinking about it. Plus, at the ending she gets to raise a happy field of Pegasi with him. :)
I like being contrary to pairings that appear to be favored in the game by the developers in most RPGs where that sort of thing is pertinent. In Fire Emblem: Awakening, it's Chrom and Sumia (at least as far as I can tell in the beginning, she falls quickly out of the spotlight later though). I personally wish the two of them had a couple more potential spouses than they do, especially Chrom with his requirement to be married by the end of Chapter 11 (or you know, make Olivia obtainable earlier in the game so they can S- support in a reasonable amount of time- but maybe I'm biased because I like Chrom and Olivia as a pairing the most of his potential candidates besides the Avatar). As for Sumia, this felt like the most natural pairing of her candidates for me. I really like her support with Gaius and I'm still having her marry him first. I saw Henry's... and well I was kind of underwhelmed. The Avatar's was decent, and her confession was super cute. ^^
+Maria Alice Uh . . . I love Chrom/Robin (either fem or male Robin, it makes no difference), and I also ship Fred/Sumia, but I don't do that to "keep Sumia away from Chrom." I mean, tbh, "keeping Sumia away from Chrom" is easy. You just . . . you know . . . don't bring her into battle . . . don't have them fight side by side . . . and presto-chango, Chrom ends up marrying Robin/Maribelle/Sully/Olivia/Village Girl instead. I ship Frederick/Sumia because they have very similar goals and outlooks. Both Frederick and Sumia are highly dedicated soldiers, but not because they have a need to prove themselves in combat or feel a greater duty or calling, but because they both have genuine devotion to helping others apart from themselves. In particular, both Frederick and Sumia are devoted to helping the royal family, which I feel fits PERFECTLY in line with Cynthia's characterization. It is so, so, so, SO easy to imagine Frederick and Sumia raising Cynthia to be a devoted retainer to Lucina, Chrom's other child (whether it's Morgan or Brady or whoever), and Owain. In Future Past especially I find this to be precious because not only is she one of the last ones to give up hope in Future Past 1, but she DOES end up being one of Lucina's retainers AND ends up being captain of the new Ylissean Pegasus Knights. Like, it's so impossible to tell me that she's not Sumia AND Fred's girl. You just can't. But on top of all of this, I find more personality compatibility between Frederick and Sumia than just their devotion to assisting others through their knightly duties. Both Frederick and Sumia wrangle with insecurities and confidence issues. Frederick feels abysmal if he's not being helpful (as we see in his Supports with Chrom). Part of his devotion to doing his part is because he feels worthless if he can't. Sumia, too, has great insecurities that deal with making mistakes in any form. They're both perfectionists, but because they're also both naturally supportive and empathetic people, they bolster each other up instead of tearing each other down. They both seem to have a penchant for romance as well; Frederick's lines in this S-Support are romantic as hell, and Sumia is clearly very flattered by them. She needs someone who will give her that attention. Yeah, I ship Chrom/Robin, and I don't ship Chrom/Sumia (though only because I *hate* that she "lives and breathes for him" in her epilogue -- fuck that, she should live and breathe for HERSELF). But if I didn't like Fred/Sumia, I'd just ship her with Gaius or Henry, you know? Hell, I DO ship her with Sully even though I can't marry them! So I honestly don't see any reason to have a "keep away" pairing, because that's just childish nonsense. And as a final note, I feel bad for you having experienced that, because in all my time in Chrobin fandom, I really haven't seen anyone say that's why they ship this. I think you need to visit better areas of the fandom, tbh.

Sonic 1991 It's probably because Sumia suffers from the disease called boring and shoe-horned love interest syndrome. The developers took for granted the fact that they put two characters together and so never put any effort into Sumia or her relationship with Chrom, which just made them boring together. It doesn't help that Sumia has zero story relevance and on higher difficulties her pairing with Chrom doesn't net you any real benefits (gameplay wise) or satisfaction (story wise). It also probably doesn't help that because of her low requirement to S support Chrom, most people defaulted into that whether they wanted to or not.
