  • Here we look at the BIRD 43 & we look inside one of its 0-30MHz inserts / pod, we also look at the Bird accessories loads make measurements both forward & refelected & an in-indeptth look at the bird 5000EX which is an Analogue & digital mode RF power & VSWR meter. The 5000EX is used in conjunction with the 5016 sensor which can also be connected via USB to a PC where software is used to emulate the meter allowing further functionality, Including measurement of TETRA, DMR, P25, RADAR PULSE, & SSB, AM, FM, transmissions, this is looked at in the video by demonstrating the software & its setup modes including SSB & Pulsed applications for reading sudden peak RF power.

Hi could you make a video of how to use a Bird 5000-EX with a 5010 sensor?

When I recently bought a faulty 2995R the seller asked if I wanted to buy some other items, I ended up buying a Telewave 44A, Telewave N Type Dummy load and some 30a linear power supplies. Good job I took some extra cash with me. Now if I could only find a decent SWR/Powermeter for up to 30MHz, nearly all the units sold for "Ham Radio" are poor designs or overpriced.

If you are wanting to measure RF power accuratly & VSWR then get a Marconi radio test set such as the 2955, 2945, radio communications test set see my other videos (NATO Marconi tactical radio test set or the video i did on the 2945 radio test set) where i demo an accessory called "Marconi directional power head" which goes with the Marconi 2955 to measure up to 1000 watts, the accessory i demo with the radio test set is available in two frequency ranges being 1Mhz to 50Mhz & 25MHz to 1GHz. can measure CW, AM, & SSB modes, these plug into the accessory socket on the front of the test set. This is the most accurate equipment on the market. However if you wish to attain the best accuracy of RF power directly see my video on the Marconi 6960 RF power meter which uses specialist sensors that have an accuracy of better than 0.1% error from 10MHz to 46GHz, used with attenuators they can measure any level of RF power at the source. Of course other direct power accurate measurements can be made using a HP8920 radio test set, Marconi / IFR / Aeroflex test sets, see my video on 2965 & 2968 these can measure Pulsed & Digital RF modes too.Of course the Bird 5000ex is an industry standard inc military.

@@rfmanrfman4536 Thanks for your reply, I really do like my 2995R over the R2001D I have, I'm keeping a watch for the directional power heads and will pick some up given time. I have enjoyed watching your videos.
