I think the shepherd hut is such a wonderful thing, I've stayed at some old cow sheds in North Wales, (it wasn't a working farm like yours), it was such a cool place, I left wishing I could have spent longer there. Loving the dead hedges! Doing a dead hedge at the moment for a customer, their back fence rotted and collapsed so I offered to replace it with a dead hedge with surplus from my allotment. I'll plant some hawthorn whips behind it, so when the dead hedge rots away in 5-10 years, I can make the hawthorn into a living hedge.

I just discovered you! If a bed is established, you don't need more than an inch or so of compost. One year, I thought I would try adding tons (4 inches) of compost on no-dig beds...they did very poorly. I read later others found too much compost was a problem on established beds.

Bentonite needs quite a layer of heavy material over it to seal (it expands in the direction of least resistance).

Seeing the snow I grew up with in London is a lovely memory cos this part of NZ never has snow. Sweltering under 29C and 95% humidity as I watch you shovelling snow off the tunnels felt quite surreal. All the best in your ventures, I love that this work seems like FUN for you, as it should be :) ♥
