It would be cool if they could create the opposite of a sub launched missile. A torpedo that fires from the bottom, sinks to a low depth then arcs back up under the belly of the targeted ship and blows it up that way.
Mind you, this was WWII technology and tactics. Modern torpedo targeting and guidance are far more accurate, but so is anti-submarine warfare. In modern submarine tactics a single shot, while in theory can be done within a few minutes, may more likely take hours to prepare (patience is not just a virtue when you don't want to be seen, it is a life-or-death necessity, and you have to maneuver slowly to guarantee both the hit and your survival) and an engagement may even take days in outmaneuvering your opponent.

not only the modern torpedos. 30-50 years back they weren't "stupid straight forward" also.
haha, this is a cute way of describing them, small but deadly.
Torpedo seeks the sound like SAM missile. But there are many counter devices which can distract torpedo.
the ww2 ones had tracking tech. but, it was so faulty it could turn around, lock on and destroy the same submarine that fired it.

While torpedoes are expensive, the things the Torpedo is destroying is more expensive than the torpedo itself
The patience of a submarine captain must have been tremendous.

2serveand2protect It might have worked better than their torpedo firing skills..1 for 6?
t t, do u know how hard that is, guessing a ships speed from 3 5 sec looks and doing the calculations in a minute under pressure.
The creation of depth charges and decreasing size of modern 'battleships' is also another factor.
WWII US Navy submarines used a sophisticated device called the torpedo tracking computer to set the trajectory of torpedo's to their target.
Torpedo DATA Computer (TDC)
It doesnt track the ship, you input the data of the target and it creates a firing solution for you.

For trying to show how it is accurately done, they sure do say "fire" a lot. The proper term is "shoot", due to "fire" being a casualty term.
This is incorrect. The term is, in fact, "fire". It is only used in two situations, a casualty and during a weapons launch.
On my boat (SSN-709), fire was reserved for casualties. Shoot was term used to launch upon the enemy.
I can't quote the actual manual on here, but as an instructor in this subject, the term is "fire".
Ok, but if you served under my former commanders, you would use "shoot" lol.
