I wish you were my neighbor, I absolutely love these kind of projects. I always have at least one of them going on. Wish I had someone like you to build stuff with.
New to your channel.. And this is F'ing awesome!!!! I'm so excited to make this! Thank you for explaining it super simple and being budget friendly! New subscriber for sure!
When I found your channel years ago with the original statue , I was amazed!!!!!Its the video I watch every year to get the Halloween mood started. Im adding this one to the list. Thank You soooooooo much for this channel and the work you put into it and all of your creations!!!!!!
Graveyard statues 2.0! So nice Allen has to make it twice lol. These turned out awesome we love them. Thank you for revisiting one of your classic Videos 💀🎃❤️
wish you were around when i was doing these statues i like the locktite idea and the skulls for shoulders i wouldn't have used my wifes towels i did dip my canvas in a thinned out mixture of quikrete they did turn out great thanks again love your channel
I just tried to do the cement part of this process I didn’t have 1x4 so I used 2x4 and I put Vaseline on the bottom and up the board that would o be in the cement and now I can’t get the board out? How much Vaseline do u need??? Help!!!! And where do u need to put the Vaseline? Just on the bottom?
LOVE THIS VIDEO!! I'm getting my supplies ready. Did you use both drop cloth canvases? I follow the first canvas, cut into 3 9x 2'pieces. Was the 3rd 9x2 piece all that was needed for the hood?
I created one. Loved it and easy to make. I usually use PVC, but this was easier and less expensive. Thank you. People walk by and are amazed. How could I post a picture?
Just FYI, but you don't really need to cut a circle for the head, as all you need to do, when you've folded it in four, is cut little slits along the fold lines. As in an X, because then the head just pops through it, but also the triangular parts that poke up can look sort of like a neck or collar. Hope you like my suggestion
One of my first Halloween DIY videos I watched years ago. Thanks for making a new one in 2020, these are phenomenal. I like the giant dinosaur skulls at the beginning to :)
I just randomly came across this video. This prop statue is neat. It reminds me of an artist I studied, Albert Szukalski, who recreated the Last Supper in a similar fashion. One thing I learned, you can use old football pads (a thrift store is a cheap place for one) to create shoulders, just put some cling wrap or vaseline to allow for reuse. The artist used live people to put the mixture over for the shapes.
This is an excellently executed project with simple instructions, simple materials, and can be easily completed by DIYs. Your skills and how you simplify a rather complex project are impressive. Now, I am going to attempt recreating the canvas version. THANK YOU!
Awesome Allen! I've been watching your stuff since 2013 (late to the party) and have made many of the things you've demonstrated over the years. These statues will make an fantastic addition to my cemetery. Many thanks!
I tried making one of these on a smaller scale using fabric stiffener. Needless to say it was a fail (I live in humid Louisiana). I wish I would have realized you could use calk to stiffen the fabric!
Beautiful work as always. If you end up lighting these, would you consider doing a short video on that. Like many I’m better on the making side than the lighting.
Great suggestion! May do that. These two are no longer with me, my friend Rue is doing a ghost tour and he took them for props! But I agree, good video idea.
Ok I'm done. Took me more plastic but I think it came out great! I put a skull in mine and put a mini strobe light in the back of its head to light up inside the hood. Thanks so much for all that you do!!!
Oh great tip (or absence of) I had forgotten about using black AND white to get the concrete look.Well done sir. Additionally, unlike monster mud, you can break these down and store the materials.
Given the uncertainty caused by panic this year, I am scaling down my display to basically my grave yard. These will be perfect to add to my existing props quickly and on the cheap. Now if you could do a tutorial for building a canvas and liquid nails container to store the 2000+ props I have, I and my cluttered attic and garage would be even more grateful.
Wow! These turned out most excellent! Never would have thought to use skulls in that way. Thank you for all the hard work you pour into these projects and videos.
I know, as haunters, we find alternative solutions for expensive problems. But, where along the way did you decide to try heating up tile subflooring to see if it would stick? Smh. As always, I am impressed Allen.
Just found your channel and my husband and I are hooked. We subbed and are sharing. Thank you for the excellent ideas. I’m a Halloween birthday girl so these items would make excellent party enhancements ❤
Wow, your very talented and have mad skills.very impressive and spooky. I'm making some statues for my display this year. I'm going to use old graduation grounds. Then going to drape material over them. Then do spray paint to make the stone look. I'd love to show you my picture. When I complete them.
Oh! Another fantastic tutorial Alan… I just may have to make a couple of these for my yard this year. Even if we don’t give out candy and stuff, at least we’ll have something for decorations for the season.
I am going to be leaving my statues outside in the elements and at the end of the video you stated that they were somewhat waterproof since they had been treated with liquid nails. Would the addition of Loctite to join the individual canvas pieces together help make the statue water proof or would you suggest an additional water proof coating to achieve that.
if they are left outside all year then Id hit them with concrete water sealer... Ive been using that al ot lately www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-PREMIUM-1-gal-Wet-Look-Sealer-98501/202263927
Cant wait to try this, but mine will be 9' tall! I have gallon cans of pl185, and it should work great with the textured blanket fabric i fished from a knitting companys trash. ( after asking and recieving permission)! The fabric has been mainly used as cat bedding for winter shelters for homeless cats. Now u can finally do a great halloween! Thanks for all the help!
I am most encouraged by the canvas statue as there is so much more reality in the imagination of the macabre. I loved the shading process the most. Spraying upwards for inner shadow and downwards for the light. The teal was the icing of color, gave the statue a look of superiority. I just have to try this one day---on my bucket list as all supplies and having to own special crafting tools cost. Can I borrow yours? Kidding.
Ok i built mine. Racing the rain and bad weather. Came out pretty good. I took a video for Instagram and posted it ZenHulk. Thanks for the spray paint help, don't use it very often building robots.
Oh, man! The identical dogs...I thought my matrix was glitching. Thank you for sharing your talent! You've shown me new uses for ordinary things I have lying around.
I love everything you do you are so talented! Can you please tell where you got the large skulls the ones for $4.99? Thanks for all you do have a wonderful night.
I like the one with the skull the best, I think it looks the most like actual stone. I would have made the moss more subtle though. Still, 100x better than I could have done.
Hey. Love this! What are your thoughts on Munster mud vs loctite in this sort of application. Longevity, ease of use, ect … thank you for your awesome videos
Used your concrete bases. I reallly thought they would stand up better, but a slight wind blows them over. Still like this better then staking them in the ground though.
These are great Allen, we couldn’t find the Loctite 375, did find Loctite Heavy Duty, but it was so thick it wouldn’t spread as easily as what you were using appeared to. Can you recommend an alternative?
Those look amazing! It would be fun to put a red flickering light in the hollow one, or making that as a third one...I like the idea of one just having that black void inside...
randomized eye flashing in the hollow one. They make a reflective clear coat you can spray onto items so make an eye shaped mask and spray the back of the inside of the hood to just get the eyes so a flashing light down in the neck would hit the eyes and make an empty hood look out at you.
I watched this tutorial last year and my husband is going to help me make one this week. I am so excited because Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday and your channel has the best tutorials for professional looking decorations. I would be scared you know what if I were walking in the woods and came across one of your 'guardians' and I ride my horse in the woods weekly, so it could happen! Thanks for the great tutorial!
Damn! Great work and awesome inspiration with all you do! I had this idea of one of these using a burlap, cement mache. Chicken wire base with one role of burlap dragged through a mortar slurry and draped over. My concerns are storage and weight. Could be flakey when dry if it's not wrung out enough. Thanks again for all the energy you put in. Know that you are spawning tons more in the minions watching.
As I was watching your build I was thinking . What would the “foam “ one look like if you would have just left the first coat of back and added back light to light it up
I'd like to know if you store all the stuff you create or if you just throw it away? I used to do this stuff, but personally, it's too expensive to trash and I don't have the space to store it all.
LOVE IT. You referred the material as a tarp. I assume it is a canvas type drop cloth, right? Going to make these! Where did you source the $4.95 skull?
Al love watching your channel! You make some of the best Halloween things! The only problem I have with your work, is you never wear protection when spray painting, and at the rate you are going, you are going to have severe breathing problems when you get older! You should really start wearing a respirator when painting or when working with some of the chemicals you use!
I love your videos. I want to decorate this year for Halloween and I came across this. My only question is when putting the board in the pail I know it's set back it's not in the middle but the question is the bucket handle is that at the front of at the back to carry. I hope the question makes sense and even more hoping I get a response because your awesome.
Im trully amazed how you bring your talent to life. I love watching your detailed viewer friendly step by step Directions thank you so much From Washington State
i like the very last tip of screwing a bowl to the timber to get the shape of the head im going to try this but just soak the clothe in a cement paint mixture
I wish I had time- but the hands are from the spray foam hands video, the body can be done as a cross between this and the weeping angel video. the hair the same as the weeping angel. you can do it!
That’s awesome! You are indeed a Mad Scientist Allen! Very creative and inspiring!!!
Ive been called worse!
Awesome they look great .
How much concrete did u use?
@@XenaWarrior95 You could put rocks in the bucket instead...when Holloween is over just remove the rocks for easier storage/moving...
@@harrykuheim6107 I bet it'd be much harder to keep the post stable, unless you fill it all the way up. Then you can't move it. 😁

Thank you! Hope you go make something awesome!

Awesome! How well do the buckets of concrete anchor the props against day to day winds; are they heavy enough or do they require lateral support?
very well, concrete is a great anchor and they dont have much to grab the wind

yes, Ive seen his work- just different materials. I feel like shoulder pads would make them too beefy, I prefer slender reaper types myself.
