- On today's episode of Locked On Stars Joey gives his player grades for each Dallas Stars player from the 2023-24 season. The criteria for each player has a pie percentage of 60% regular season performance and 40% playoff performance. Matt Duchene had a wonderful regular season but really struggled in the playoffs, what letter grade would he get? Joey also discuss his MVP for this season which is Wyatt Johnston after his breakout year. Miro Heiskanen tops the lists for defenseman, but Chris Tanev and Esa Lindell had great seasons as well which deserve some credit. In the final segment, Joey gives his grade on both goaltenders Jake Oettinger and Scott Wedgewood.

Tanev is an absolute Monster. He was an A+. Mandatory sign this offseason. Total warrior.
What kind of term you thinking? IMO 2-3 years at around 4m but may not be enough and not possible given all our other UFA/RFAs

Long-time Stars fan here (since '97). Good video. Agree with your grades. Love Hintz. At times, he is almost Gretsky-like (thinking back to earlier in this regular season and last year's playoffs versus the WIld and Kraken). But... the injuries and vanishing for long periods of time. Ugh. Very excited for the Stars future. There are some gaps that need to be filled in and improved upon but I feel like this team is poised to do great things for a while.
Hintz is a B- he became the invisible man in the playoffs. Completley MIA
Crazy considering he had the most shift time.
Think he was playing injured. But could be wrong. Love Hintzee, but might be more a low end #1C or one of the best #2's in the league. Glad we usually play two centers on each line
Harley was a shell as soon as he got paired with Miro. He needs his own line. Regular season was stout but the playoffs he was out of his depth.
I think Wedgewood is the unsung MVP. Without his gritty performance while Jake was hurt, we would not have won the division.
Do you think he will be resigned?
Looking at the Oilers and Panthers series, one thing is starting to stand out as a major difference between Florida's play compare to Dallas's play: NO Lobbing overhead to try to get ahead of the play constantly with not much result. Dallas will have to change the way they approach the game next season, it is not only about the players it is how you play the game. Florida is very successful not doing what the Stars were doing in both the Colorado and Edmonton series. Question: Will DeBoer be able to implement proper changes? Is he the one? Duchesne did not prove to anyone that he is valuable in the Playoffs, that plays against him for a re-signing. Roope has been injured for years now.
IMO, Robo and Roope don’t have that playoff dog in them. Amazing reg season guys, but when it starts getting rough and tight, they struggle to find space. Maybe they mature into it?
Otteinger gets a C bc he is SO inconsistent!!
Ottiengier’s inconsistency places him at a B- for me. Oilers broke his confidence that first game. The way he stormed off the ice didn’t look good.
Think I would give him a bit higher. He is still growing. Think his best is still yet to come. B, maybe B+ had great numbers in the playoffs too before the last few games.

Anything aboce a C for Hintz is too much. Getting hurt shouldn't give bonus points. As the top line center he had 2 goals in the entire playoffs (1 was an empty net), and only had 17 shots on net . As far as regular season, he's down 10 points from last year. He's supposed to be in his prime in the first year of a brand new contract. If a B is meets expectations, Roope earned a D+ at best.
C+ for Joe?! Thats way too high. His regular season was fine, probably C+ there. But his playoffs were a complete catastrophe. I think he was a D frankly.
bit harsh, he had clearly lost a step in the playoffs, maybe playing with a knock. but we could have used him at a better level for sure. might have been the difference. Next year it will be Bourque, Stankhoven and Johnston filling those old Captain America roles
