I love the story of how one accused witch actually convinced King James that she was an actual witch when the king was initially inclined to not believe her confession. Taking the story at face value, it seems she would rather die a witch than live as a fraud.
Apparently King James wrote " Daemonologie " after being involved in a Witch Trial ( which ended in execution (?) And is sort of a legal reference book for use in such cases,
You said you were a scholar on the Bible and religion, Do you really think the bible is real history? Please convince me because I don’t think it is. Just a simple word like “Golgotha” a place in Jerusalem only means “Skull” in Hebrew and for real, there is where god is really buried. The “Skull of Man” I’m missing something… thanks.
If my information is correct, King James had nothing to do with producing "his" version of the Bible. The authors appended his name to it, although he didn't finance, organize the project, nor even suggest that it be done. It was merely done to curry favor.
Hi Dr. Dan, I've been engaging with your content and have noticed a consistent theme in your shorts and videos regarding your perspective on the nature of the divine. It appears that you assert the Bible is a composite of culturally specific narratives and prescriptive texts, authored by individuals within their respective historical and cultural milieus. You suggest that these writings were tailored for an audience of their time, thereby lacking relevance for contemporary society. If I am accurately capturing your viewpoint, I want to avoid a straw man argument. This stance inherently implies that the divine, if it exists, is either disinterested or incapable of meaningful communication with humans, or perhaps that no deity exists at all. Should this perspective hold, it negates the notion of any divine revelation, thus rendering the concept of inspiration as fundamentally flawed. In light of this, it seems we are left to navigate existence without divine guidance. The intent of my inquiry is to delve deeper into your philosophical underpinnings concerning the existence and nature of God or a deity. Thank you for considering my questions, as I seek to understand your position more thoroughly. Best regards.
I am not Dr McClellan, but I see a few jumps in interpretation there. For example, I agree that Dr McClellan's position seems to be that the bible was tailored for an audience of their time, but that does not mean that it necessarily lacks relevance for contemporary society. In fact, I seem to recall that he has stated several times that the multivocality of the bible has allowed it to remain relevant over time. Also, I see a difference between "there is no evidence of divine revelation in the bible text" and "divine revelation is disproven and no divine guidance is possible".
First off, you didn't ask any questions, like someone already pointed out. Secondly, it's humorous that you did this same copypasta on a video where he actually talks about people reinterpreting the text for their time. Finally, he doesn't discuss his faith on social media. My questions are regarding an understanding of God or deity or divine. Is the Bible a divine revelation from God? If isn’t, what does that answer presuppose about God? Is God not willing or unable to communicate with creation? Or does God or deity or divine not exist? What does our view of the Bible reveal of our philosophical presuppositions about God? Does our presupposition of God come from Greek philosophy of a timeless God? Does it come from the enlightenment of reason or empiricism? Is there a God? Thank you all for your comments.
The phrases "The King James Version of the Bible was written by King James" or "Hell was added by Rome" are unusual phrases assigning acts and agency in curious childlike constructions. I assume the creator is offering a caution about the reliability of the Bible because King James and Rome are moral uncertainties? Baffling is an understatement. I would like very much to hear his commentaries on Homer and Virgil with respect to the Iliad. You might think I am poking fun at this creator. I am not. I admire his sincerity and encourage everyone to develop their critical response tools. Great literature resonates within a diversity of receptive competencies.
I took the issue as being it was Rome not Christainty whom added those things. As his topic was additions to the bible. So I don't believe the morality of Rome was the issue, just their non-christain nature. However because he did highlight the supposed "satanic" worship of king James, perhaps it was implied.
