Sometimes you can feel bad for him. Growing up without parents and family, in addition to being a nobody with people bullying him and consequently creating problems and not helping him in the orphanage. He suffered the equivalent of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.
Great video you earned a sub! Alot of people are saying that the whole third act when Riddler floods Gotham is out of place and makes no sense but I dont think so because I have a theory on why he flooded the city My theory is that perhaps Riddler came to the belief that the corruption in the city is too much and he couldn't take them all out one at a time so he decided to wash away all of the corruption as it would be easier and quicker, and as for why he killed innocents well I guess his mental illness just overtook him to the point where he doesnt care
Absolutely correct, and it hurts how many viewers lacked the comprehension of this. Nashton believed Gotham *itself* failed and hurt him. He sees the whole of Gotham as a toxic, corrupted organism and each and every living being in it merely diseased cells. His flood was, in his eyes, a needed cleansing by fire (or rather, water). Much like how chemotherapy doesn't discriminate between cancer and healthy cells. He wants the entire organism to drown in the terror and hopelessness that flooded his childhood.
I myself would offer that the Mayor, the DA, the Commissioner, the Police, and the Mob actually deserved what the Riddler did to them. And no, not for revenge, and I’m not saying anything justifies being a sadistic serial killer and domestic terrorist either. I’m just trying to say no reform could’ve been made as long as they were still in circulation. They had the Renewal Act, they had an iron clad, mutuality beneficial treaty between the system and the underworld, they had every economic cash flow in the whole city, and every single citizen, both law abiding and violent offendering, strategically right where they wanted them. The Batman could only break up a turf fight, stop an assault, or save a kid here and there, and that idealistic 20something year old mayoral candidate Bella Real could only do much her better ideas than the mayor Don Mitchell that was winning over her voters. Oh, sure. What she said in her speeches sounded a lot better than the same tired half hearted droll Don said. But it’s like the Riddler said in his post The Batman found on his last post on his message board in his apartment titled “A REAL CHANGE”. He’d heard every political and social movement everyone behind the stand proclaimed that always ended with nothing happening, even they were sincere, and both his, and his fellow residents in the whole city, only had their living conditions and personal dignities deteriorated progressively each time they did.The Riddler’s only fault working against the law, and by extension, the people he was supposedly championing, and just dispensing what HE deemed was the justice they deserved all on his own with no consent. And as for the flood? Well, maybe the new mayor was for real, and might’ve made some degree of progress, but did you see her trying to get her audiences attention during the flooding taking progress right before one of the Riddler’s followers popped her in the arm. None of them cared, they were all too busy carrying their children trying to find higher ground because that stadium they were in was already overcrowded. THEN she got shot, THEN the Batman climbed the rafters and (with the help of Catwoman and Commissioner Gordon, of course) saved her and them by stopping the Riddler’s Followers, and THEN the National Guard answered their distress call and sent help on their way. If not for the Riddler’s “Real Change”, how much positive development would she, Batman, and Gordon have caused? Yeah, there were innocents along with the Irredeemables in the streets at the time, and not all the Big Bads “got cleansed”. You could see the Penguin safe in his office or penthouse. But the majority of the innocents were all rescued safe and sound, with Batman’s, Gordon’s, and the emergency aid’s help, and this drew them closer to the theirs and Bella Real’s support, and further away from the criminal underworld’s influence. Like Bruce Wayne’s closing narration, there were still a lot of criminals left alive looting buildings and people, and most of people’s homes were inhospitable for the time being. But think of how much organized crime has dwindled because of all the better half working together! Edward Nashton, however brilliant, was a criminal, and a literal psychopath, but he was successful. Everything he set out to accomplish worked! Just not the way he’d hoped. But then again, does anybody’s plans ever go exactly the way they planned them to? He just didn’t get Batman’s approval, that’s all.
One of the great things about Batman stories, as compared to that of other superheroes, is that Bruce goes against 'evil monsters' that people actually have to worry about in real life.
You got yourself a new subscriber. I love this version of Riddler a lot and consider him to be the best out of the others we've seen, although the version of Riddler in Gotham is also good. This Riddler actually won in the end despite the flood setback. I would love for you to do a video on Joan Ferguson from the Australian hit TV series Wentworth set in a Women's prison with gripping, complex, and dark stories. Joan starts off as a Governor running the prison before finding herself as a prisoner in her own prison but that doesn't stop her from the things she carries out. Very intelligent, ruthless, manipulative, and also very sympathetic and complex due to extreme childhood trauma. She arrives in season 2 and stays to the very end.
Thanks! I love this iteration of the Riddler too, works perfectly in the theme Matt Reeves was going for. I haven’t seen Wentworth before but I’ll check it out!

I don’t know what Edward was even thinking when he thought Batman was on his side. Most heroes, like Batman, wouldn’t be very accepting if someone came over to them and said: “Hey Batman, I have this group of people that kill other people of this city because they rejected me! Wouldn’t you like to join us?!”
I just watched the batman , after finishing the movie I felt the story was pretty average in comparison to the other batman movies , while really liked the cinematography , music and action sequence . After watching your video , the way you unwrapped the story in simplified way , now I am feeling good about the movie . Thank you so much .
This riddler was excellent. He kept up with proving his intellect over batman by taunting him with riddles and arguably knew about the extent of the corruption around the renewal fund. What he lacked was the narcissism and bloated egotism, which was replaced with a sense of "misguided" righteousness and anyone who didn't believe him was beneathe him. Being an orphan and growing up in the ophanage gave him the inferiority complex and resentment along with knowledge of the corruption drove him to taunt those he saw as beneath him. This riddler was far more sadistic than other versions wide of the mark. Arguably the riddlers plan succeeded, forcing Bruce to "question" his old man's involvement.
On of the benefits of working within the system, in spite of deficiencies in the system, it sets parameters. Reduces the chance of getting the wrong person. Doesn't eliminate the chance of an innocent being punished, but reduces. Incidentally, this is a point for Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc as well.
I support the Riddler if I were in Riddler's place I would do the same. The only thing I disagree with the Riddler is that he planned to drown the city destroying millions of lives which I won't accept but other than that I would probably be like the Riddler.
He almost killed Alfred, his vendetta wasn't against corruption but people with status and better upbringing then him. Since the world wasn't fair to him he felt that he should do what it takes to make it fair on his own terms.

This new version of the Riddler is great. His flaw was that he didn't know Bruce very well. His jealous blinded him.
