The original LOS story is quite good but as a game story it is poor with zero story choices. Compare it to The Witcher 3 game with story choices for every quest and 15 variations of endings for the main game. In the LOS, the gameplay isn't too interesting and very light challenge but at least playing it blind you get some counterweight to how you get attached to the main characters.
A big difference between the tv show and game you guys missed was the start of episode 7/8. In the tv show you see Joel's alive after he's been stabbed but in the game there is a time skip and you are now playing as Ellie for the first time, making the possibility that Joel is dead very believable
@@kdizzle901 definitely not inferior. you’ll naturally prefer whatever version you’ve seen first, or you’ll gravitate to the version that has more elements that you value, like the game showing vastly more infected for gameplay purposes. There’s a reason the show is being praised so heavily bc it makes the characters understandable and likeable. They have to make the show more grounded in its dialogue and action to keep the characters from becoming goofy and unrealistic, and Ellie and Joel are characterized differently to fit the natural length of a tv show. Each episode needs to have a purpose so there’s no way to add more episodes that didn’t have important story beats that were directly from the game. I was a fan of the game yrs ago but I think I prefer the characters in the show even more bc of how much more in depth they made them feel by delving into their trauma and PTSD.
@@beccazach i honestly agree with you. Edit: me and my dad watch the show but i played the game first and he watched the show first. He played the game after but still resonated more with the show while i was the opposite. I think it defo has to do with which u saw first
@@beccazach I love both. I think they made a great decision by reducing how many infected we see. It makes them feel very dangerous, because every time we do see them its a close call. I think the show could've gone from amazing to a bit silly if they tried to lean into the "Joel is an unstoppable murderbot" aspect from the game. 2 clickers being barely survivable in episode 2 really felt tense. I think that was the biggest aspect of TWD becoming boring as hell for me. The walkers were a non threat until the writers randomly wanted them to be one.
A little detail: in the alternate ending footage that you saw... Ellie was not being played by her actor, Ashley Johnson. Johnson was busy that day and Ellie was just supposed to be an unconscious body anyway, so they decided to go ahead and just shoot without her. But they realized that it would be good to have someone fill in for her so that Troy Baker (Joel) has some believable weight to interact with & carry. Troy Baker's wife, Pamela Baker (a photographer), was visiting the set that day and she's of a similar size and build. So they dressed her up in Johnson's mocap suit and she filled in for unconscious Ellie.
That's a perk of mocap, you can substitute actors if need be. A similar thing i know was for Red Dead Redemption 2 where the actor of the main character stood in for an actress that couldn't come for a grieving scene over a tomb.
Sad fact. The actress that played Tess in the game (Annie Wersching) was unable to be involved in the show due to battling cancer. However, she was able to see Tess brought to life in the show, and subsequently passed away the same week Tess died in the show. Just one one of those strange life full circle moments. Also not sure if you know but Marlenas actress is the same lady as the show.
The reason why Ellie closed her eyes while playing the arcade game is because all the games where broken. Riley told her to close her eyes and she would narrate what was happening in the game. As the player, you would still have to press the buttons on your controller during the scene, but everything was totally up to the imagination of the characters (they were making do with what they had available).
Actually the note that Frank wrote to Bill is an optional choice. You can give it to Bill and see his reaction but if you miss that interaction it won't happen. There are a lot of these little interactions throughout the game which you will miss if you don't pay attention to the side characters. There are also just a lot of notes to be found which will tell stories of the people that lived through the outbreak but again if you don't pick them up or don't want to read them you'll miss them. They are all pretty interesting though and sometimes add to the lore of the world.
David had very similar intentions with Ellie in the game. They finished it and decided it was way too much for the game, so they toned it down and made it more implied. They weren’t concerned with that in the show. The game also did a better job at making you think Joel would save her at any moment, but he shows up only in time to see her butchering his face.
I don't understand how people think it is implied in the game. It was very obvious to me. He definitely does not have to reach for his belt for the viewer/player to know that he had those intentions. This kind of changes and many more character changes really makes this a mid adaptation. A very good series, but ultimately a mid adaptation. I don't want to make this a women/men thing, but after watching that video of Nolan North and Ashley Johnson talking about David and his intentions and how even North had his doubts about them while Johnson was sure of them, makes one think that women at least think of the possibility of getting sexually abused right off the bat much more often. And maybe that makes you right, maybe it was just implied, but the creepiness of David is enough even with the possibility of it which is not something men tend to think about in a situation unless they are clearly shown with a man reaching for their belt.
@@Bjjbhcoa86 Being implied as opposed to explicit doesn’t make it any less certain or severe. It’s like with Bill and Frank - it’s never blatantly spelled out in the game, but we still know it.
@@Bjjbhcoa86 Implied just means that hints are shown, not outright stated. To have an implication, you still have to display intention--which is what you picked up on as "obvious". I agree that the show wasn't up to the standards of the game, but I also believe it's unfair to compare them 1-for-1 because it's not remotely a fair comparison when likeability heavily favors the game and the advantages the medium offers.
The game could be accessed by 10 year olds. (The habit was parents were more lenient about violence than sex and games were assumed to be mostly just violence and age ratings ignored more often than tv or movie ratings and less likely to watch the child play). So of course it had to be toned down for the age group. The show was allowed to go more explicit because it is rated 14+ and parents are more likely to heed tv/movie ratings or if more permissive, they watch with
About Ellie and Riley in the arcade. In the game all the machines are busted which makes sense since the outbreak was 20 years ago. Riley mentions that she once found a working machine that she got to play years ago. That is the one Ellie "plays" in the game. Riley tells her how the controls work and to close her eyes and basically narrates the game to Ellie. You get to play as the player but we only see the button cues and Ellies face. The lighting and sound effects are Ellies imagination. Also this part takes place in the DLC and it jumps back and forth between Ellie and Rileys story and Ellie and Joel after he got injured. They show how she got the supplies to patch Joel up and as you saw at the end how she transportet him afterwards.
@@tainasouzabordados Makes sense that they didn't want to put another game in there. I actually really like how they did it. They will not punish you for missing buttons but you do get a different ending narration if you ace the last combo.
It was very cool the way they did it in the game, and it made a lot of sense that the machines weren’t actually working 20 years after the apocalypse lol
"WERE THERE MORE RECORDINGS?" There is another recorder from Marlene in that hospital where she talks to Anna (Ellie's mom) and says that she gave the go-ahead to do the surgery on Ellie, but she didn't really have any choice (meaning the Fireflies would have gone ahead and done it if Marlene had said not to). She also says the Fireflies wanted to kill Joel (before he woke up) but she said no because Joel would understand "the weight of this choice". You can also find Marlene's journal, which you have to read (it's not a vocal recording). It describes how she wasn't as wounded as she thought she was back in Boston, and how she tried to catch up with Joel and Tess but when they showed up at the Capitol building they found the dead Fireflies. Marlene describes arriving at the hospital and being told the Ellie never arrived, so she assumes she died somewhere on the trip. She's very depressed, but then someone says that "a man and a little girl" was spotted entering the tunnel just outside the hospital, which gives her new hope.
From the little bits I've heard about the game, Marlene seems a much more sympathetic character, where she really feels the weight of it and seems to go back and forth. In the TV show, to me, she seems more hard and cold about it, despite telling Joel she's the only one who understands. It's interesting to know that even if Marlene had said no, the Fireflies had control of the situation and would've done it anyway. In the show, it seems Marlene is the only one in control. It also changes the argument about guardianship, if Anna had given permission. It's still f'd up that no one asked Ellie, but it makes a difference when it's her mom versus Marlene or Joel giving the go-ahead/not go-ahead. Even though the outcomes are the same, these kind of details really change the narrative.
@@lunacouer "In the show, it seems Marlene is the only one in control." True, but it stands to reason that if Marlene had told the Fireflies "No, we're not going to kill Ellie, we're letting her go" there would probably be a revolt. If I was one of the Fireflies and had been working on a cure for ~20 years and we finally find someone that's immune but am told that we can't use her because the Firefly leader was friends with her mom then I'd say "What the hell have I been doing for the past 20 years?"
The big difference from the show vs the game in terms of story telling is they replaced the game play segments with world building and other POVs from other characters. In the game you only see and know what Joel and Ellie see and know.
Makes me think of the Hunger Games Trilogy: the books are entirely from Katniss' perspective, so you're only aware of what she's aware of, while the movies show us some of the stuff going on "behind the scenes" of the Games, so to speak (like all the stuff with President Snow and Seneca Crane in the first film).
Dawn of the Wolf is TLOU Twilight, in the gameplay Ellie asks Joel if Joel has seen it, in which he replies with a yes, Ellie asks him if the girl bites it in the end, while Joel proceeds to tell her there was no killing it's a dumb teen movie, Ellie says who took you to see that, Joel replies with I don't remember. I'm guessing it's Sarah's favorite movie 🤷
For Episode 5, the reason I prefer the game is because Henry and Sam have a "Marlin-Nemo" relationship, where Henry keeps telling Sam "No", and some of his regret in the end could be related to him being too strict. While Sam being deaf could have increased this relationship tension because Sam COULDN'T be on his own, the line "I'm hungry" is pretty much the only time that guardian conflict came up. Here, the "guardian swap" is actually one of the hardest parts of the game because after getting so used to Ellie having a gun and taking guys out herself, all of a sudden you have to fight a bunch of infected and Sam can ONLY distract them because Henry DOESN'T let Sam have a gun.
If you listen closely he say “it’s all your fault *henry,* its all your fault” he’s talking to himself through the entire interaction, he’s just very quiet when he says his name, almost like he’s either ashamed of himself or scared of it.
The dawn of the wolf poster is actually a reference to the twilight series given the time if I remember correctly! Because the game came out while the twilight series was in the ending phases of peak popularity. You can also see this poster later on in the game if I remember right and Ellie asks about it and Joel tells her it was a "stupid teen movie". (This is all going solely off of memory I might be completely wrong 😂)
Great video! Just one thing though- I'd say that David trying to SA Ellie is definitely implied in the game too! 'She's David's newest pet' 'You can try begging' 'He tried to-', her changed demeanor afterward, etc. Gameplay mechanics (and not wanting to 'overly disturb' players) is probably why they didn't take it further, but I think we're definitely meant to infer that that's what David was trying to do at the end :/
Diamond Dave at it again with beast mode editing. Thank you! Yay! Glad you guys watched this. A few answers: In the mall scene the video game screen isn't working in the arcade in the game. She uses her imagination. It's definitely a lot sadder. As for David, I get the feeling Oak and Quinn missed the fact that they were implying David's intentions throughout. Most especially how he "mounts" her. As someone who has taken countless Krav Maga and self defense classes, this is the practice move we get into to fight the "r*pist" when he's got us down on the ground bc it is the most commonly used position an r-ist forces his victim into. Oak kinda jumped the gun by talking when Ellie told Joel, "he tried to..." And he pulls her close and says "Oh, baby girl." They only caught that last line and didn't realize it was in response to what she said. That's the part that's most powerful about his line. Joel understood without Ellie having to tell him explicitly what David was about do to her and why she acted so forcefully. It was just subtle enough but almost everyone I know who played the game understood what they were going for with David in the game is exactly what they were going for in the show. Hope that clears that up a bit!
The key portion of Frank's letter was, "I wanted more from life than this and you could never get that." That's kind of the same argument shown in the show, but they basically had that fester and become a recurring argument, leading to massive resentment between the two of them.
Some different details about Sarah’s death: - Tommy wasn’t separated from them at first and Joel gave him his own gun, only getting separated because Tommy stayed behind to hold them off. Joel doesn’t ask Tommy for help as she dies. - Joel isn’t panicked as she dies, he’s in denial. He’s telling himself she’ll be okay as much as her. Joel does not handle loss well at all, this being the first clear indication (the first technically being the total lack of photos of his wife in the house), later furthering that by refusing to talk about Tess, or Sam and Henry.
Idk it’s from being a girl raised in this world lol but the “creepiness” and intent was always very felt for me, even if it’s more subtle in David’s scenes in the games. Playing as Ellie during those parts messed me up for a bit 😂
It's also probably the fact that brutality is popular in shows. So we now assume the worst. It's subtle enough that it could be interpreted a few ways.
About david and ellie.. When joel comes to save her she says "he tried to.." which implies R. How did she know that, well, he was on top of her and there are thing you can feel physically that gives such a thing away. So it is the same trauma. It was more blatant in the tvshow, but the same thing HAPPENED in the game. ❤
Well, he had his hands around her neck and was also probably going to kill her. He had probably snapped himself. She could have as easily been saying "he tried to kill me" which is traumatic enough at 14 ish.
In regards to the Bill and Frank story you can see in the letter where the writers picked up on some characteristics to write a new story line in the show. Bill and "set in his ways" outlook and Frank being more open to explore and do more and that's what we get in the show, Bill being closed off while Frank is more open and receiving. In the game I feel the story is still the same just a different outcome. You can tell from Bill's body language and the change of his voice when he finds Frank that he never stopped loving him and I believe Frank never stopped loving Bill as well. When I read this letter in the game I never saw it as Frank hating Bill. I saw it as him just being as stubborn as Bill and he hated that Bill was right and never wanted to give Bill the satisfaction of that, so he left him that.
When they had that first time skip in their relationship with them fighting for a moment I thought they were heading in the same direction the game went
This is an amazing format idea!! Showing the other guys pivotal moments in the game AFTER watching the show and then talk about it by episodes. Major kuddos to Diamond Dave for setting this up!! Give this man a raise 😂
ngl I think Sarah's death scene is more impactful in the game than in the show. I don't know whether it's the performances (as much as I love Pedro and Bella), the music, something else or a combination, but man, it hurts my heart.
I think it’s a combination of body language and tears. I liked how in the game Joel keeps looking over to Tommy almost like his brain doesn’t comprehend what happened is real so he needs to assure himself. I also think Troy Bakers sudden burst of tears is more affective, you can tell Joel is a stoic person so he’s trying to hold himself together but breaks from the amount of grief.
@@_M41KU_ troy baker himself has chalked up to the success of that scene coming from Neil Druckman's direction. in the first few takes he said that he went straight to the broken man feel and Druckman told him that instead of doing the sudden stunning moment, have the reaction, taking in the information, feeling like its fixable, realising that it isnt, begging for it not to be what it is and then finally realizing that there isnt anything you can do and all of that comes out in the performance which is just gut wrenching
I don't really agree. I liked Nico Parker's death scene better. It felt right in the gut and so real. While in the game, it felt so inoccent. It still made cry though!
Despite the major change in Bill's outcome in the show.... They both serve similar functions, story-wise In the game, bill is a version of Joel who completely closed himself off to love forever. Frank left bill because bill was genuinely too set in his ways and Frank couldn't live like that. Bill was surviving, not living. Bill is a warning to Joel about the dangers of closing oneself off to love: becoming a bitter, paranoid shell of a person In the show, Bill is a reminder to Joel about the wonderful parts of love. Bill was only surviving until frank showed up. Frank taught bill how to live and love. "Paying attention to things, it's how we show love". Bill becomes something to aspire towards. Bill, through his letter, reminds Joel of his purpose: to protect their loved ones. Through the (mostly) same character and a diff ending... Joels in both mediums are affected. One is a warning, the other is a reminder. But ultimately, both push Joel forward, and begin to open Joel up towards Ellie.
I actually think, given the changes the show made, Bill would NOT have functioned at all as he was. Game Joel is softer. He CARED. He is NOT the old curmudgeon that hates the world yet. It is only a possibility for Game Joel. So story wise the narrative choice of someone at a fork in the road is provide a warning of what the main character can become if one path is taken. Bill was that Warning; If Joel kept going he would end up giving up on love and everyone like Bill had. Game Joel cared for Tess, she knew it and said "There is enough here that you must feel some kind of obligation to me". She had him take Ellie for HER and her wishes. She was someone he had found to fight for and felt obligated to even upon death. When she died, Ellie became that something to fight for (Ending: "you keep finding something to fight for" means a continual occurrence and for Game Joel when he lost Sarah that was Tommy, and when Tommy left Joel, that was Tess, and when Tess died, that was Ellie.) SHOW Joel, however, is HARD. He is ALREADY the old curmudgeon who hates the world. He had NOT cared for Tess. She knew it. She said: "I never asked you to feel the way I felt". And had him take Ellie for HIM and HIS redemption for the bad deeds they did. In the ending he says: "If you just keep going, you'll find something new to fight for". This and the whole: "It wasn't time that did it" was to indicate that ELLIE was that something new. That he had NOT found anything or anyone, that he had just been "keeping going" up to that point. That Tommy or Tess wasn't a part of that cycle. There was no narrative need for a warning because Joel was already there, He had already passed that fork in the road. The narrative needed the "Even an old hate the world curmudgeon can find hope and redemption after having fallen all that way", to show that even once you have taken that wrong path, you can still find a way to get on the good path. Kind of like the difference between a story with a sexually active teen (at risk of getting pregnant/getting some one pregnant) and then showing a person who became a parent young and the fall out to narratively show the warning of sexual irresponsibility. If that character now is already close to becoming a parent young, showing a "warning" makes zero sense. The narrative option then becomes showing someone who gave the child up for adoption and both have a future through sacrifice.
1:42:55 One reminder: In the game they don't go to Jackson for that part, they just go to the hydroelectric plant. In the game, Jackson is only seen by them from afar when saying goodbye to Tommy and in the final scene in the dialogue between Joel and Ellie. Already in the series the part of the plant is cut and they are taken straight to Jackson.
As much as the show was faithful, nothing compares to the game for me it's SOOOO visually beautiful, and maybe I'm more partial since I played the game first😅but I can't help loving the game more. Glad you guys are reacting to this.
I agree! I think the show brought things in the game to life by adding these little extra details we didn’t get to see, without taking away from it. They did a great job in the show but I think I will always be loyal to the game first!
i think it's that the tv show can't give you details such as the notes, the voice notes, the banter, the experience playing as the character, letting you loose in the world etc. etc. and there is no way of replicating that the game will always be more in depth so either way most prefer it especially if they played and not just watched because it's just a different experience (though watching gameplay and not just cutscenes could help too but even that's not the same as actually immersing yourself in those combat scenes versus watching it)
I like to think the game and show are different universes that, in regards to Bill and Frank, differ at a single moment. That fight that Bill and Frank have about fixing up the town in the show, the game exists in a universe where Bill wasn't willing to budge. He was too set in his ways, too paranoid, and the love of Frank was not enough to reawaken the human part of himself.
One of my favourite videos on TH-cam is actually the lets play of the last of us by the cast members of the game because Troy is constant throughout the game so he'd explaining a lot and you find out a lot of the big emotional parts of the game where actually improvised or came from ideas the actors had while making the game
David wanting an inappropriate relationship with ellie is implied in the game too when one of his guys says she's David's new pet, the hand touch and his speech about her joining him, him climbing on top of her, ellie telling telling Joel he tried to.... it's all there just more subtly than the show
the people who were after Henry and Sam weren't fireflies or federa or the qz. they were an independent group that overthrew the ones in their area and became their own group of hostile people in this universe. and the part where David is chasing you around in the burning restaurant gives me PTSD to this day... literally took me forever because David got faster and I started to panic and freak out and get sloppy with my gameplay lol.
Thank you! I was wondering if I was high because all I can hear is nose breathing. Drove me nuts. If it wasn't for Taina Souza's comment I woudn't have been able to keep watching not knowing there was an end.
@@darkstar3116 Nah im greatful i found these comments cause im glad to know i wasnt the only one. Half the reaction i felt like Darth Vader was taking a nap next to me.
1:37:00 The Amazing part is, this scene was improvised by Ashley (Ellie's voice & mocap actress), especially the line "Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me. Everyone - f***ing except for you! So don't tell me I would be safer with somebody else, because the truth is I would just be more scared." They have on TH-cam a lot of the motion capture scenes and behind the scenes acting clips, they are also great to check out.
Bill and Frank were definitely still lovers in the game, and I have always taken that letter to be lashing out in the worst way, but not indicative of true hatred. Clearly they were going their separate ways, or intended to, because they were fighting. Whether Frank would have come back ever or not won't be known because he was infected in the process of leaving. It's more tragic but the Bill's town segment still serves almost the entire same purpose from a character standpoint
Crazy suggestion for you guys: You watched the tv show before you watched the game’s storyline. You should watch the games storyline for part 2 before season 2. That would be a VERY interesting piece of content that I’m sure not a lot of people have the opportunity to do.
Ngl I’m surprised you didn’t pick the remake version to show them, because the graphics and especially the facial expressions of the characters are so much better
@@lorettabes4553 yeah but they aren’t playing the game, they’re watching the scenes to compare how the scenes are in the game. So it would be better and easier to connected to it with scenes from the remake because the facial expressions have more emotion for them to watch and the graphics are way better. The older version being the original means nothing in this context
@@clover2739I especially love that bedroom confrontation scene in the remake relatively, just cuz... Idk, it just hits you in the feels more than the 2013 one imo
In my opinion the firefly doctor was hoping that the cure would be a done deal, desperate they probably didn’t want to think about all the complications actually producing one would be. Which honestly the chances of being able to make one in that environment is almost null.
Enjoyed the show but there were some critical details about Joel and Ellie that I wish they didn’t change. - Joel didn’t want to be around Ellie, not because he found her annoying, but because she immediately reminded him of Sarah. When they’re waiting for Tess he tries going to sleep right away because he doesn’t want to spend a waking minute with her - she then proceeds to point out the watch Sarah have him. - Joel was sometimes verbally mean to Ellie to push her away, but he was never physical, never called her names, never told her to stop swearing, etc. He inherently wanted to like her but emotionally wanted nothing to do with her. - Ellie is actually a very kind and respectful person inside. She never tries to be rude or snarky with Joel. Notably, she really wanted to apologize about Tess, and even does later after Joel tells her not to mention her. She actually apologizes quite a bit throughout the game, including to the soldier that scanned her, whom she didn’t think they were going to kill. - Ellie swears because she’s scared and trying to seem tough. She always emphasizes the swears in her sentences because of that. The tougher she actually gets, the less she swears. - Ellie wants a gun because she can and should be allowed to defend herself, not because she “has a violent heart”. Joel doesn’t want to give her one because admitting she needs one would be admitting she’s in real danger, not because he doesn’t trust her with one. Just some details I personally really liked that I don’t get why they changed.
Agreed. They hardened Ellie and made Joel much more brittle in the show, which I didn't like; it undermined her arc when it was time to take charge after he was wounded, because she had already been taking charge and telling the 56 year-old survivor what to do. It also meant less when Joel started opening up to her because we the watchers had already seen him being vulnerable.
Couldn't agree more. They made Ellie the typical annoying brat teenager in the show, always dropping f-bombs and snarky and they muted Joel to an extent of not having emotions nor facial expressions. I loved the game versions of both Ellie and Joel waaaaay better than the Tv show.
They changed all this because they consciously sacrificed Joel's character and characterisation in favour of what is coming next. They shifted the focus of the series, since now we have the second game. The fist game it was all about Joel and Ellie, now it is not because you know, they wanted to make the narrative fit better which makes me real sad.
how you can hear the answer breathing sometimes because he's so close to the mic really shows how invested he is and it's amazing. As a player of the game before the movie, I loved it
That's crazy you must have some super levels of hearing because I have watched this video like 5 times and I cant for the life of me find the Answer in this video lol
One of my favorite facts is that it was supposed to just black screen, Twenty years later, after Sarah dies. But play testers just couldn't pay attention and play the game after that death scene. So they had to add opening credits.
1:23:00 Oak looking at the guys like he realized/figured something out … “That’s not a transformer..” 😂 I did not expect him to say that, I thought he was gonna ask where the toy came from or what the significance of it was
@@that.ll_do_pig I honestly assumed it was a transformer as well, I’m not at all familiar with Voltron !😆 But it’s 2 against one so I’m sticking to a transformer. Lol
Three hours?! Are you sirius?! I don't even wanna know how long the editing and rendering took. Only gonna watch three chapters now. Then I'm going back to watch episodes 8 & 9. Then I'm going back to watch your reactions on episodes 4-9 and then I'm coming back here 😂 Thank you guys so much for your reaction in advance! 💪💚
I think, Watching the scenes is kinda like watching the live show with no sound, The game has a lot of interactions between Ellie/Joel while walking, and with everything you pick up form the ground.
Yep, wished they had reacted to some of the gameplay moments like Joel finding the Savage Starlight comics for Ellie, the Endure and Survive conversation or the bits with Ellie’s joke book (which is specially cool because they are literally the same jokes they used in the show). And the scene where Ellie gives Joel the picture of him and Sarah.
For the Mortal Combat equivalent in the game, the arcade does not have all of the electricity working so Riley basically describes what is happening and Ellie is imagining it but we as the player do get the kind of controls like gameplay that you would get with mortal combat.
1:54:59 in the videogame on the scene where Ellie is playing the fighting game in the arcade, the reason it was shot like that was because the arcade machine was broken and Riley was voicing the game and pretending and making up scenarios so that Ellie could feel like she was playing it. They didn't show too much but in the game they also add sound effects and imaginary voice lines and music to represent the nature of what Ellie feels the whole time
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast, I’m so pumped for this! I haven’t seen the game footage in years and this is exactly what I was in the mood for.
had they asked ellie and she said no i dont want to die for it do you think they would let her go? no they wouldnt which is why they didnt ask either way they were going to do it with or without her consent, and a fun fact game david is voiced by nolan north who was the voice of nathan drake in the uncharted game
Really enjoyed this video and so glad you guys enjoyed both the show and the game. Thanks for this. One thing I would say is that the game does also imply that David was going to force himself upon Ellie had she not grabbed the machete in time. There is the reference to her being "David's newest pet" but also, when Joel finds her after she has killed David, she says to him "He tried to-" and she doesn't finish the sentence because she's crying and Joel is comforting her. Obviously, for the show, the writers thought they had maybe been too subtle in the game script so leaned on it more, but it was definitely the intention in the game to convey that same thing. Also, in terms of asking what you missed from the game and what our favourite parts were, the extended sequence where Joel and Ellie get out of the university as Joel is bleeding out is fantastic. I don't know if you watched the full sequence but cut it from the final edit of the video or what but that sequence is a right high-point in the game.
I love that you guys did a video like this!!! It's so amazing that you guys went back and compared the scenes to the game because it's a fascinating comparison! although someone was breathing really heavily into their mic throughout the video and it was really distracting, did anyone else notice that?
also I don’t know if you showed it but Ellie giving Sam that toy meant more, especially if you show the scene before it with Sam picking up the robot toy and Henry telling him to put it down and that it would be a waste of space and they only pick up things that are useful. When everyone turns their back, ellie picks up the toy and sneaks it in her bag. So then she gives him it to cheer him up so watching him throw it down and reveal the bite hits even more. Plus you get to see Ellie and Sam bond more in other scenes. I’m surprised the scene where Henry betrays joel wasn’t shown either
I love that you guys watched this! I was wondering if you were going to play the game or watch the story part. 💜 to me Sarah looks exactly the same minus the hair. They did a really great adaption to this. Can’t wait for next season.
Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this, but RE: the arcade scene with Riley in the game… I don’t exactly recall, but either the game didn’t work or there was no power. Ellie was bummed she wouldn’t be able to play, so Riley made her close her eyes and walked her through “gameplay” while Ellie pushed buttons and moved the joystick around. It does seem very strange just watching without any context haha 😊
If ya’ll do this same thing for Part 2, you guys should definitely either play it or watch an entire playthrough (which admittedly either option is a huge undertaking) because there is SO, SO, SO MUCH character development, world building, and general story beats outside of cutscenes in Part 2. Only watching the cutscenes would be a massive disservice to the story.
A shame they didn't watch the Remake version. All of the visual performances on the character models are so much better. Still a great game regardless.
First of all, there are no "visual performances." They only did motion capture, not face capture. Those were animated. And it's clear there was a less competent team doing the remake. The expressions are exaggerated and don't even match the characters of the dialog.
@@miller-joel Wrong, it was the same art director. And they still have the actual video from the performances to redo these animations with. So yes, it is a direct visual performance, because they now have the ability to replicate those performances from 2013 better than they did 10 years ago. Google it.
It didn't feel like a 3 hour video! I had so much fun! Thank you again, guys :) Also, the thumbnail is gold!! Everyone did a great job on the series. The parts they changed worked so well for live action. Hope you play/react to The Last of Us part II, but I understand if you wait for the second season of the series to come out first.
I've been away on vacation and no idea you guys were doing this and I'm so happy you are. I was not happy about having to go back to work tomorrow but this makes me happy!
The game is so much better than the TV show. The TV show did a good job, but the game is ruthless. The atmosphere, everything ! Joel is tougher in his manners, his talks and behaviours Well, the game is masterpiece!
About Tess' death, in the game, we don't need over dramatic scene cause we are with her for a long time (some hours) and we are playing Joel, not just seeing him, so the feelings are more powerful, wich is not the case for the show so we need more drama to be equaly involved. In fact, this is the case for every big scene, the game doesn't need as drama as the show cause we are more attached to the characters. Same for the end, when it's time to save Ellie, we spend like 15 to 20 hours with her, it is so much powerful I think. PS : excuse my english, not my main language
I’m a bit late but thank you for saying this because I feel the same way. We had everything we needed and were attached without the drama. The show was an 8/10 but the game will always be #1 !! 😅
Yeah, it’s so much better, especially Ellie’s facial expressions. The DLC is the remake version though. Or even better, wait for the PC version with RTX 4090 max quality.
@@ncard00 Yes, missed opportunity, not only animations but the overall look of the game is incredibly improved while maintaining the original aesthetic. Some might say "well it's the original" but I think the remake builds upon everything the original did and only improves it.
Wow, still watching guys since its 3 hour reaction... there sre some significant changes but still end up with the same result except bill amd franks story..but what they did in the tv show is to fill up more world building and character stories because in the game, you are exploring a wide area and doing side quests... And its wonderfull that you appreciate this game!! Great reaction as always!
Hell yeah! you guys did it! Yes, thank you! I've been saying for everyone else that the game handled the ending situation much better than the TV show with those recording tapes. I really love the game waaaay better than the TV version. This version of Joel is kind and loving but at the same time so aggressive when he needs to be. It was a roller coaster of emotions throughout the game. In the game, I kinda felt that Joel made the decision of killing-spree for his progressive and growing love towards Ellie. While in the show, he only softens at the end and he kinda looked like a maniac psychopath murderer. That's NOT what Joel is about. In my opinion, Pedro had only ONE great performance: while talking and crying to Tommy about Ellie. Other than that, throughout the show, he was neutral, muted and showed no emotions or facial expressions. I prefer Troy's version. And they totally ignored his watch's significance in the TV show, while in the game he's checking it, touching it, glancing it from time to time which gives more feels to the story. Also, I recent watched Troy Baker (Joel actor), Ashley Johnson (game Ellie) and Nolan North (David in the game) playing the whole game on TH-cam and they talked about behind the scenes stuff, hosted the other mocap-actors while playing the game and asked them about their experiences in the making of this game, their own interpretations of their own characters. Nolan North (David in the game) debated that his David's character was debatable, he could be either a father-like man, wanting Ellie by his side just as much as Joel wanted, or he saw in her a replacer because she's loyal and strong or he could just be a creepy pedophile. It was never explicit in the game which I do love. I really love different interpretations of characters. While in the show, they made him a creepy psychopath and a rapist. Also, Ellie in the game was much sweeter, kinder while also dropping f-bombs every now and then, while in the show they made her the typical annoying brat teenager, always aggressive when speaking to others, always cussing,... which I hated a lot. Many people have told me that the 2 versions of Ellie are the same. They are NOT!!!!! Of course, I prefer the Ashley's version of Ellie.
An amazing explanation I've heard for episode 3 is that the game shows us whay joel would become if he keeps shutting people out in fear of getting hurt, while the TV show shows us what Joel could have if he decides to open up his heart. ❤
Great job again guys. I can’t believe I couldn’t tell from the accents before, but then you talked about the Milwaukee zoo and it all came together. Love to see fellow cheeseheads do great work. Cheers!
The problem is you experienced the show as television/cinema is intended and designed to be experienced, but you didn't do the same with the game. You just watched cutscenes. Video games aren't meant to be watched, they're meant to be participated in and do much of the magical audience experience happens in the gameplay. Its like the difference between seeing a picture of a mountain vs climbing the mountain. Don’t get me wrong, I get why all three playing the game wasn't feasible for you guys, and I think you were very fair, but the game was never gonna get to showcase itself truly.
very true, in games the relationships and dynamics between characters are shown through the small dialogues they make during gameplay. just going to cutscenes you miss out on a lot of the growth joel and ellie have, for example
What an amazing idea/follow-up to the reactions! Loved this (about halfway through…what a treat getting 3 hours of this, and props to Dave for the editing!) P.S. Kansas City (proper) is in Missouri, not Kansas (weird/lame, I know! 😛) 😊Love your all reactions, as always. Definitely one of the best channels out there. Period! 🙂
In the game Bill represents the bitter lonely life Joel will live if he remains cold and distant, in the show he represents the life Joel could have if he cares again and let’s somebody in
Joel Baker and his friend Nolan north (Nathan Drake from uncharted) actually did a play through of the game and Joel invited a lot of the actual actors from the mocap to join. Including the actress who played Sarah and they both spent about 30min crying together over the 5 min of screen time they had together
You talked about how Pedro was selective with his weapons and ammo. On the hard or higher difficulty of the game ammo is almost impossible to find so when you get the chance to make ammo you have to pick what kind of ammo you want to make. Hand gun or rifle, medkit or ammo, Molotov or medkit, shive or trap. How you play affects everything
David, played by Nolan North in the game, creeped me out so much it triggered me. I definitely knew exactly what he wanted and that his second choice was no better. Maybe it’s because you are with David much longer and you play as Ellie in the game which could explain why you guys thought the show portrayed it more intensely. This is the only portion of the core game where you play as Ellie and they made her game mechanics completely different from Joel’s. You can really feel the hopelessness of a woman in this situation because you are not as strong and powerful as when you are Joel. I really enjoyed this video, so thank you for sharing it.
in ep 7 at the very start, before it goes down to the stairs, it pans over the horse, then the rope, and then the bloody sleeping bag to demonstrate. i don't disagree that it would have been a good shot, but it was in the same episode they show that, not the next episode. it's very fast and easy to miss and a lot of people do. In the game, none of the games work. So since they can't actually play, Riley has her close her eyes and narrates what happens and as the player you push the buttons in a quick-time event. it's a sweet bonding moment, but it was very fun to see them get to actually play the game.
2:04:46 the difference in the number of humans or infected from game to show was HUGE, because they thought the super long combat areas would not play well for a different medium, like TV. If you play the game you will see hoards of Clickers and human enemies. The game really tested the players moral compass, IMHO, because you could sneak by a lot of clickers without having to kill them but the human enemies engaged had to be eliminated.
Hey guys! From my perspective (female, played the game), I'm gonna say which story line cutscenes I preferred... Sarah: tv Tess death: tv Bill & Frank: tv Pittsburgh/KC: game (I preferred the "he ain't even hurt," the bus, them getting ripped out of the trick, the water fight) Tommy: game (I missed the damn base but I get why they went right to the commune set) Joel's injury: game (but it's too unrealistic he'd survive that wound so tv is better. I liked the game Ellie time and LOVE bow and arrow Ellie) David: game (Joel merc'ing people through the whiteout storm and Ellie being the sneak fighter we all love instead of hiding in fear. This scene you really see Ellie strong fighting skills and what a benefit her small size and speed are) Ending: game. (You KNOW Joel is in the wrong, tv show is too vague. Also Pedro played the mountain climb chat too cheerful imo and it made it feel very creepy. In the game Joel is aware 100% of his choice) No spoilers --- I cannot WAIT for Seasons 2&3, they are going to be fire. I am of the camp who adored TLOU 2, I thought the storyline was spectacular and so thought provoking. Imo it is going to translate to tv EVEN BETTER than TLOU1, can't wait!!!
I will give the show credit where credit is due in that they did a nice job making David more creepy and did a great job in world-building and deepening the history of various characters. I also want to say, I appreciate you used the original game and not the remaster. I will say though, it's a shame that this wasn't split up in multiple parts and you get to see the game as it's meant to be. Unless I'm wrong and there is cut content for Patreon, removing the extra cinematics not in the show and small moments of dialog in the game does it a bit of a disservice. I mean, I get it, 10-ish hours is a lot to watch, but what wasn't shown, what collectibles weren't read, the missed tense stealth moments and high impact fights, all that combined makes the game the masterpiece it is. I know this was done to match the show, but I guess it feels like being given a piece of cake with missing layers and no icing. I suppose I should be a little more grateful, though, seeing some of it is better than seeing none of it. Sorry for getting so passionate, I know you guys did your best. I appreciate seeing this, regardless.
yeah, it's better experiencing it first hand and getting extra context will always be better and connect you more to the game characters just watching cutscenes you may think it's a little more simple because they aren't going to show action like that usually in cutscenes, it will be gameplay that you can actually play yourself lol
Dawn of the Wolf Part 1 & 2 are simply fake movies. The devs made these posters for an in-universe, Twilight-esque movie. If one gets a closer look at the poster, all the credits for this fake movies are actually the names of the dev. As you move through Pittsburgh, you get to see more posters for it. And at one point Ellie comments on it. Ellie: Hey, there's another one. These posters are everywhere. Joel: I saw this. RIght before the outbreak? E: (excitedly) You did? Does he totally gut her by the end? J: Hmmf, nobody gets gutted. It's just a dumb teen movie. E: Who dragged you to see it, then? J: I don't know. Let's keep moving. Also: the dinosaur birthday card that Sarah made for Joel is also present in the show. In a wide shot of her room, we can see it on her desk.
I recently completed this game again, I don’t know how many times I’ve finished it but I never get tired of it. You guys are right, I could go hours playing it, it gets to the point where I have to force myself off so I can save some of the story to play later and enjoy in waves rather than finishing it all in one go without stopping which I can also do and have. Such a nostalgic game, best soundtrack, characters are amazing, wonderful story and graphics are better than most games especially for its time. I would say it is around the same graphics as GTA V.
Little cool thing is that the voice actor for Joel in the game is actually the person that shoots ellie off a horse in the show. Ellie game actor is her mother
This video was so amazing!! I’m so happy that you both got to see how much work and effort went into this masterpiece. The look on Oak’s face when he say that behind the scenes was amazing. He was dumbfounded😮. That is the perfect reaction for how talented those people are. I left a comment before watching this 3h plus video. And was definitely right this video was great. Welcome to the world of The Last Of Us💜
Omg you guys, today i was literally thinking of rewatching a gameplay of the game because i wanted to see the gameplay for the second one and HERE WE GO! Love you ❤
Just a fantastic game. We kept it to more of the tv moments. We may have missed some cool moments, so what are your favorite moments from the game? What did we miss?

I love that you guys are doing this. Thank you!
Only at the end of episode 3 but would have loved the upside down scene and how players met the bloater for the first time.
Did you guys missed the museum scene or just left it out? And also the bloater scene in the highschool would've been cool.
@@Matt.is-mad we did miss that
The original LOS story is quite good but as a game story it is poor with zero story choices.
The show is inferior to the game in my opinion but that’s just my opinion don’t come for me
@@kdizzle901 I don't think it is an unpopular opinion. Show is definitely inferior.
So they dressed her up in Johnson's mocap suit and she filled in for unconscious Ellie.
this is such a cool fact, thank you for sharing
Hmm I always thought it was the actress who played Sarah to take her spot for that scene
@@TokuRewinds nah, it's not hana Hayes. Heard about this fact from a story told by Troy Baker himself!
That's a perk of mocap, you can substitute actors if need be. A similar thing i know was for Red Dead Redemption 2 where the actor of the main character stood in for an actress that couldn't come for a grieving scene over a tomb.
I’m sure you know but Buddy Boy on the HBO show is Troy Baker, who played Joel in the video games.
Reminds me of Herschel’s final season in S9 of the Walking Dead. Scott Wilson passed the same month, I believe.
that sent chills down my spine, beautiful or rather sad
The show was allowed to go more explicit because it is rated 14+ and parents are more likely to heed tv/movie ratings or if more permissive, they watch with
Just realized, its 3 hours lol..great content
Which ones breathing like Darth Vader ? Lol
Lol Oak. Thought I edited all of those moments 🤣🤣🤣

He must have had a cold or something
It was very cool the way they did it in the game, and it made a lot of sense that the machines weren’t actually working 20 years after the apocalypse lol
knowing that hannah (the girl that played sarah) was about 11 when she delivered THIS ACTING gives me the chills
"WERE THERE MORE RECORDINGS?"
There is another recorder from Marlene in that hospital where she talks to Anna (Ellie's mom) and says that she gave the go-ahead to do the surgery on Ellie, but she didn't really have any choice (meaning the Fireflies would have gone ahead and done it if Marlene had said not to).
I've played the game several times and never read Marlene's journal! Now I'll have to go play it again... not that I needed an excuse 😂
@@TheJrr71 It's in the set of tents in the hospital just before you get to the final set of Fireflies.
@@jhornacek Thanks! 👍
Sarah has a dawn of the wolf poster in her room.
I agree
I like the detail of Joel being immediately friendlier to Sam because he doesn’t care about getting attached or not like he does with Ellie.
Oak breathing like a grizzly bear 😂
Rest in peace Annie Wersching who played Tess in the game and also Renee Walker in 24
When Henry says "its all your fault" I always got the feeling he wasnt talking to Joel
If you listen closely he say “it’s all your fault *henry,* its all your fault” he’s talking to himself through the entire interaction, he’s just very quiet when he says his name, almost like he’s either ashamed of himself or scared of it.
@@aidreinhorn1534 That's not what he says, but he is talking to himself. First thing he says is "Henry, what have you done?"
Its shown in the TV series too
@@de68a yep! In the episode with Riley!
Much appreciated Melinda 🤙🤙🤙
The key portion of Frank's letter was, "I wanted more from life than this and you could never get that." That's kind of the same argument shown in the show, but they basically had that fester and become a recurring argument, leading to massive resentment between the two of them.
Some different details about Sarah’s death:
- Tommy wasn’t separated from them at first and Joel gave him his own gun, only getting separated because Tommy stayed behind to hold them off.
Except that wouldn't really be something she'd be that upset about. They've had people trying to kill them all game@@moonlitskylight5740
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
ngl I think Sarah's death scene is more impactful in the game than in the show.
Everything in the game is better
@@_M41KU_ troy baker himself has chalked up to the success of that scene coming from Neil Druckman's direction. in the first few takes he said that he went straight to the broken man feel and Druckman told him that instead of doing the sudden stunning moment, have the reaction, taking in the information, feeling like its fixable, realising that it isnt, begging for it not to be what it is and then finally realizing that there isnt anything you can do and all of that comes out in the performance which is just gut wrenching
@@kdizzle901 agreed
I don't really agree. I liked Nico Parker's death scene better. It felt right in the gut and so real. While in the game, it felt so inoccent. It still made cry though!
Despite the major change in Bill's outcome in the show.... They both serve similar functions, story-wise
In the game, bill is a version of Joel who completely closed himself off to love forever. Frank left bill because bill was genuinely too set in his ways and Frank couldn't live like that. Bill was surviving, not living. Bill is a warning to Joel about the dangers of closing oneself off to love: becoming a bitter, paranoid shell of a person
In the show, Bill is a reminder to Joel about the wonderful parts of love.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
When she died, Ellie became that something to fight for (Ending: "you keep finding something to fight for" means a continual occurrence and for Game Joel when he lost Sarah that was Tommy, and when Tommy left Joel, that was Tess, and when Tess died, that was Ellie.)
SHOW Joel, however, is HARD.
I'm so happy you all watched this and gave the game the attention it deserves!
And Joel decided to go with Ellie, it was not Ellie's decision. Which is a very significant change in my book.
Which is good for S2
As much as the show was faithful, nothing compares to the game for me it's SOOOO visually beautiful, and maybe I'm more partial since I played the game first😅but I can't help loving the game more. Glad you guys are reacting to this.
I agree! I think the show brought things in the game to life by adding these little extra details we didn’t get to see, without taking away from it. They did a great job in the show but I think I will always be loyal to the game first!
i think it's that the tv show can't give you details such as the notes, the voice notes, the banter, the experience playing as the character, letting you loose in the world etc. etc. and there is no way of replicating that
the game will always be more in depth so either way most prefer it especially if they played and not just watched because it's just a different experience (though watching gameplay and not just cutscenes could help too but even that's not the same as actually immersing yourself in those combat scenes versus watching it)
@@nightfrost1891 I agree 💯 with everything you've said
Thank you guys for checking out the game story❤
I was soo hoping for this
I like to think the game and show are different universes that, in regards to Bill and Frank, differ at a single moment.
I've been rewatching that lately myself!
I'm sorry but someone's heavy breathing during Tess' death scene is really funny lmaooooooo
It's driving me CRAZYYYYY
I’m 25 minutes in and it’s all I can hear since I noticed 😂
Thank you! I was wondering if I was high because all I can hear is nose breathing. Drove me nuts. If it wasn't for Taina Souza's comment I woudn't have been able to keep watching not knowing there was an end.
@@darkstar3116
Nah im greatful i found these comments cause im glad to know i wasnt the only one. Half the reaction i felt like Darth Vader was taking a nap next to me.
I think it's Oak. He sounds like he has breathing problems. Potentially associated with one's lung being pressed.
It’s important to consider that A LOT of character development occurs during gameplay. They talk and exchange dialogue the entire time.
Crazy suggestion for you guys:
You watched the tv show before you watched the game’s storyline.
That’s what I was thinking! The 2013 version is dated by comparison
This is the original though, without how the devs thought the characters look in the remake.
You have it backwards. The remake animations are horrible compared to the original. They don't even match the dialog.
Loving the addition of Oak's ASMR breathing ...
how you can hear the answer breathing sometimes because he's so close to the mic really shows how invested he is and it's amazing.
The original video game actors who played Joel, Ellie, Tommy and, of course, Marlene were in this HBO series. I hope I didn’t forget anyone.

Oak looking at the guys like he realized/figured something out …

I think, Watching the scenes is kinda like watching the live show with no sound, The game has a lot of interactions between Ellie/Joel while walking, and with everything you pick up form the ground.
Yep, wished they had reacted to some of the gameplay moments like Joel finding the Savage Starlight comics for Ellie, the Endure and Survive conversation or the bits with Ellie’s joke book (which is specially cool because they are literally the same jokes they used in the show). And the scene where Ellie gives Joel the picture of him and Sarah.
I wanted to see their reaction to Ellie saying 'your watch is broken'
That scene.
You guys have truly BLESSED us today! I’m so glad you reacted to this and all in one episode!
Great video, I just wish Oak was farther back from the mic. He sounds like a horror movie killer, breathing creepily in the dark.🤣
had they asked ellie and she said no i dont want to die for it do you think they would let her go? no they wouldnt which is why they didnt ask either way they were going to do it with or without her consent, and a fun fact game david is voiced by nolan north who was the voice of nathan drake in the uncharted game
I‘m so excited to see your reaction to this! I hope you‘ll enjoy it, I loved it :)
Compliments to Diamond Dave, this was so well edited
I'm sad that we won't have any more reactions on TLOU from you guys in a while. You guys rock!

It is the same thing with this first game as well, they missed a lot of things by only reacting to some cinematics

Google it.

The game is so much better than the TV show. The TV show did a good job, but the game is ruthless. The atmosphere, everything ! Joel is tougher in his manners, his talks and behaviours
Well, the game is masterpiece!
Why not the remake version?
Yeah, it’s so much better, especially Ellie’s facial expressions. The DLC is the remake version though. Or even better, wait for the PC version with RTX 4090 max quality.
@@ncard00 Yes, missed opportunity, not only animations but the overall look of the game is incredibly improved while maintaining the original aesthetic. Some might say "well it's the original" but I think the remake builds upon everything the original did and only improves it.
Why not the original?

Why don’t you do the ps5 version? That would make sense to me
Yeh it looks so good
An amazing explanation I've heard for episode 3 is that the game shows us whay joel would become if he keeps shutting people out in fear of getting hurt, while the TV show shows us what Joel could have if he decides to open up his heart. ❤
3 hours, Dave?!?! Hells yeah!!!
🤜🤛
Loved this (about halfway through…what a treat getting 3 hours of this, and props to Dave for the editing!)
P.S. Kansas City (proper) is in Missouri, not Kansas (weird/lame, I know! 😛) 😊Love your all reactions, as always. Definitely one of the best channels out there. Period! 🙂
In the game Bill represents the bitter lonely life Joel will live if he remains cold and distant, in the show he represents the life Joel could have if he cares again and let’s somebody in
Loved playing this when it came out...great story, great voice acting...deserves every bit of praise. As always, loved watching with you guys.
Joel Baker and his friend Nolan north (Nathan Drake from uncharted) actually did a play through of the game and Joel invited a lot of the actual actors from the mocap to join. Including the actress who played Sarah and they both spent about 30min crying together over the 5 min of screen time they had together
Joel's watch is broken at exactly 312 am at the moment Sarah died
You talked about how Pedro was selective with his weapons and ammo. On the hard or higher difficulty of the game ammo is almost impossible to find so when you get the chance to make ammo you have to pick what kind of ammo you want to make. Hand gun or rifle, medkit or ammo, Molotov or medkit, shive or trap.
How you play affects everything
@@pleasehelp2446 That's just a stupid and unnecessary retcon in the remake.
This is why I love you guys. Not even 8 minutes in and Oak is complimenting the homes square footage.
Thats it, Badd Medicine is officially one of my favorite channels
in ep 7 at the very start, before it goes down to the stairs, it pans over the horse, then the rope, and then the bloody sleeping bag to demonstrate. i don't disagree that it would have been a good shot, but it was in the same episode they show that, not the next episode. it's very fast and easy to miss and a lot of people do. In the game, none of the games work. So since they can't actually play, Riley has her close her eyes and narrates what happens and as the player you push the buttons in a quick-time event. it's a sweet bonding moment, but it was very fun to see them get to actually play the game.
The toy Ellie gave Sam was a Transformers knockoff that looks like a Voltron toy, so all of you are correct
Sarah: tv
Tess death: tv
Bill & Frank: tv
Pittsburgh/KC: game (I preferred the "he ain't even hurt," the bus, them getting ripped out of the trick, the water fight)
Tommy: game (I missed the damn base but I get why they went right to the commune set)
Joel's injury: game (but it's too unrealistic he'd survive that wound so tv is better. I liked the game Ellie time and LOVE bow and arrow Ellie)
David: game (Joel merc'ing people through the whiteout storm and Ellie being the sneak fighter we all love instead of hiding in fear. This scene you really see Ellie strong fighting skills and what a benefit her small size and speed are)
Ending: game. (You KNOW Joel is in the wrong, tv show is too vague. Also Pedro played the mountain climb chat too cheerful imo and it made it feel very creepy. In the game Joel is aware 100% of his choice)
No spoilers --- I cannot WAIT for Seasons 2&3, they are going to be fire. I am of the camp who adored TLOU 2, I thought the storyline was spectacular and so thought provoking. Imo it is going to translate to tv EVEN BETTER than TLOU1, can't wait!!!
So glad u guys are reacting to this masterpiece 😭💪🏼
I appreciate seeing this, regardless.
yeah, it's better experiencing it first hand and getting extra context will always be better and connect you more to the game characters
just watching cutscenes you may think it's a little more simple because they aren't going to show action like that usually in cutscenes, it will be gameplay that you can actually play yourself lol
Thank you for the reaction ❤️
Love you ❤
