Wow Mattel can do lashes, details and a REALLY cool stand for under $75-$90 as a MH collector I’m feeling salty. As a mermaid collector I plan on getting her soonish
The lashes can be done better. Why don't they cover the whole eye. The rooted lashes on my other collector and vintage 60s Barbie look nicer. Nice doll, though, like that she doesn't have to stay a mermaid.

Regarding the pixilated face - I think they did it here bc the doll is still playline. It's a mermaid doll, meant for children, which means there's a pretty high chance they'll put her in water. Like it or not, the pixel face method results in a faceup that's much more scratch resistant, which is good when we're talking dolls going in the water.
I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed in the main fluke material 😭 I fray checked it as soon as I could cuz I don't trust unhemmed satin

The deluxe Ariel seems like it has the same quality as a Barbie Extra. Those retail at 25 dollars before they go on clearance. Add on some rooted eye lashes and a fancy custom stand, and the price probably would jump to 35. Finally add the licensing fee and I can see how this would jump to 45 dollars. It might seem like I'm reaching but consider how the basic Disney Princess dolls cost more than the Fashionista and Dreamtopia Barbies, but are overall lower quality than them. We are lucky the Basic Ariel doll was only 15.
Back fin is Canon, also there's a front fin from the mid of her lower tail blended to her fluke as well, kinda agree they cut some cost with the fluke too obviously, if they lined the fabrics to add some structure to the main fluke, it will look more polished and nicely done.

I have every doll released so far, LE far and away my favorite. I would love this doll so much more if her lashes were black, as they look a bit ashy, and if the accessories weren’t just cheap gold plastic. The only thing making this kind of worth $45 is the stand, but I’ll probably put my articulated play line Ariel on it. Thank you for your detailed review!
I actually like this one the best by a huge margin. Her fin looks so much better than both Disney Store ones imo, I was surprised you didn't like it lol
Me too i think her fins are beautiful
I dislike it bc its the classic playline skirt tail with the fin only being printed on one side and only covering the front, barley hiding the feet. This means posing her in any way that dont have her tail/fins pointing down, will expose her feet.
I'm thinking the price point may have to do with the fact that they probably also have to pay Halle for her likeness for the dolls...I can't say for sure but that's what my guess is aside from just...Amazon hiking prices like what you're guessing
I do not believe that to be the reason because
1. This is not a true likeness and I doubt they have to pay her as Mattel would not negotiate such an awful deal for their interest
2. There’s plenty of dolls with this exact face that are under $20, some even sold for $11. So why would this doll have a hiked up fee?

Since she was announced I’ve been holding out for her as the movie doll I want to get, now I’m contemplating waiting to see if she goes on sale
6:23 I think the reason for this is because if the doll is positioned on its knees a lot it may wear the rubber/plastic down, damaging the doll. Just a guess though!
Lets see. Mattel wants from $45 for a pixelated doll with a Barbie Extra body, a playline tail skirt with a fin blanket that's only printed on one side and barley covering the feet, plastic accessories that isnt painted and badly rooted hair.
I feel like we are paying for a very expensive plastic stand.
the fabric fins on the set actually have a very heavy weight to them and are pretty like elastic, like very much fish, but the backs are solid tho, which is the same for the satin ig
For what I could tell, she only has two shells in her hair when she's above land. But I can't remember if she does have them under water too, don't think so.
Actually she has a few more shells. Maybe 5? Haha
She's beautiful. But $45 or more is overkill. The $35 Disney store has: a very articulated body, two outfits, a singing mechanism. This doll has a simpler body, one set of clothes (and the design on her tail is also easy to erase....), eyelashes and a stand. Making eyelashes for a doll is not as expensive as a stand. This doll has the quality of a barbie extra or barbie mermaid in fabric clothes. I don't understand Mattel

I think the main fin of this doll is same as the Ariel doll that comes with the sisters set. I'm disappointed by the tail as well.

No.The author of the video wrote that in this case, no. other Hallie dolls don't cost that much. A disney srr is more like her, but her quality matches the price

Anything disney costs more and I think the exra details plus the cool doll stand is why the mark up in price. Then the body she's on I think will be used for ever after high or a new doll line coming out

For $45, i was really disappointing with the pixel face, and fabric choices.I like the top but the tail just doesn’t work for me. I wonder why she’s sooo expensive when the doll is so clearly poorly executed, maybe licensing costs?

The clip around her waist should have been molded as water or waves like the rest of the stand. A regular clip is far too distracting on a bare waist.
There was a Barbie line in like the late 2010s called the fantasy mix n match dolls. It was before dreamtopia, and the mermaids had plastic flukes but fabric tails, and I think that couldve worked amazing for Ariel if they did something similar

You're bothered by 45 dollars? Internationally this ""deluxe"" playline costs about 63 dollars... be thankfull that you don't have to pay all that money hahahah. Mattel actually decides the prices because even the new barbie movie dolls retails way more than usual and they're not exclusives or else. Mattel just loves to ultra rise prices for bad quality
If you’re bothered by the ~$63 price point then I think you should be specifically supportive of the price in the US going down since the international market price is decided based on the main market price (in this case the US). :/
Mattel decides the suggested retail cost. That doesn’t necessarily reflect what the price ends up being especially with exclusive releases like this doll that aren’t subject to any kind of price matching.
@xCanadensis honestly I would rather pay 45 of course. And yeah 45 is still too much for this kind of doll. But what I see is that Mattel exports the products with really higher prices. Some products don't even arrive like the african tall girl from Barbie looks. Plus if you consider that the quality it's not that good and then see the price you start to say "f***k I'm going to buy something else for that price" 🤣

You weren’t disrespectful, I apologize if I came off pissy in some way. It’s hard to convey the point I guess? 😅 I just get this comment a LOT and it never makes a lot of sense to me. I collect dolls only released in Europe and have to pay like double retail plus shipping for a doll that isn’t even worth the £20 retail because they’re not even released here. I wish they just sold them here for a little extra 😭
