Stratovarius is one the bands that made Finnish metal known world wide and widening the trail for the bands like Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Children of Bodom. The keaboard player you hear is Jens Johansson who has a huge impact on bringing keys in metal music. He played in Rainbow back then when Ronnie James Dio was their singer.
He played in Dio's solo band after Yngwie, and now plays with Rainbow, but not with Dio era Rainbow. He played on Yngwie's first 4 studio albums and the first live album.
Oldschool Stratovarius fans are always missing Timo Tolkki (old guitarist and main songwriter, Finnish version of Yngwie Malmsteen), but god damn some of these new guitarist's solos are awesome. His name is Matias Kupiainen, and he is one of the best guitarists in the world technically, if not the best. I admit, that Tolkki was better composer in his prime, but Matias plays all Tolkki's solos with such ease in live.
There is no possible way you can listen to a song like this or any of the others Matias helped compose and say with a straight face that Tolkki was better. They're equals, each glorious in his own right.
Elysium was the first song and album I heard of Stratovarius. Oh my god this song is so friggin goooooodddd. When that choir kicked in near the end I pretty much cried because of how beautiful it sounded. I just love progressive metal songs. It's like a journey
I can never hear this song without being misty eyed, especially towards the end when he sings: be afraid no more, just take my hand I'll guide you through the storm

I want to suggest a band that nobody (I mean, NOBODY, you'd be the first ones if you listen my recommendation) have reacted yet, and that upsetps me cause they are absolutaly awesome, I'm talking about Ixion, they are melodic death doomsters from France, their music is deep and ethereal, they just have released a first single from the upcoming album, Farewell, You can start with this song, it's mindblowing. One of the bands influenced Nightwish is Metallica because it wasn't for Metallica, Tuomas didn't like Metal or Hard Rock until one of his friends took him to Metallica concert. After the concert, he is hooked. I loved to see your reactions to Led Zeppelin, Ronnie James Dio in either Rainbow, Black Sabbath or his own band, Dio. There are so many bands from the past influenced bands today like yours.
Stratovarius are the gods of power metal those songs are not that special just okay fine wine songs. You should react to the masterpieces like black diamond visions of southern cross so many other Anthems
Stratovarius is a great band, but Elysium, it's not really the best song to get to know the band, there are much better songs, and in their best 90's period I think of "Legions", "Paradise", "Father Time" , "Distant Skies", in short, "Elysium" is already the beginning of their decline.
