I already liked Vernon as a friend and was impressed with his passion for mountain biking. This video just amplified my admiration for him. The world needs more Vernons!
I started out as a hiker, still enjoy it, but I was usually the only hiker out on trail work days, it was always the mtn bikers putting in the work to keep the trails open. I got into mtn biking working with a great group of people. I refuse to join hiking clubs when they use trails without putting in the effort to keep them open and team up with the equestrians against mtn bikes, especially when the equestrians were the users causing the most damage, and they never showed up on trail days. Not saying that happened everywhere, but it did where I lived. Seriously, come on people, if you like to use the trails, show up and put in an effort to maintain them, and don't enact legislation that keeps the user group doing all or most of the work from enjoying the trails they worked so hard to maintain.
