@@TheRealTySmallit started waaaay before that, as long as I can remember people just didn’t like kobe. I don’t know what it was he just rubbed people the wrong way. It’s kinda weird considering the man was obsessed with mastering his craft

I think nowadays, like the analyst, & media are being 100% hypocritical for disrespect to his name, especially his career..
Nobody played the game harder than Kobe did . He is the closest thing to MJ and there is no question that he is the guy who stayed with one team winning multiple.championships.. Nowadays they teamhoping the game is soft. The ratings are down and obviously.. and they gonna say “stats matter than championships?”

I will preface what I will write witg saying that I believe Kobe Bryant is the second greatest basketball player ever and the most skilled.
Kobe i think is a victim of the mental and physical eras of basketball changing during the course of his career. The win it all costs mentality by the new generation of NBA fans is perceived as toxic. Along with the style of play "evolving" into something that did not fit the best with his diminishing talent coming off of the Achilles injury. The Achilles injury itself sort of allowed him to miss his opportunity to retire a hero as opposed to staying too long and becoming the villain. I don't necessarily mean that he became the villain, but that it impacted his career stats in those years that he continued playing, along with not being a starter on day one coming out of highschool.
You mentioned a couple things that are obviously used against him and his career legacy. One thing nobody mentions though is that he played his entire career prime in the strongest division of the strongest conference. Can you imagine what Kobe's stats would have been playing in the Eastern conference?! Can we imagine playoff runs and regular seasons where he didn't have to go through specialists like Doug Christie, Bruce Bowen, the Blazers teams that were epically stacked, guarding him for six games in a series and 3-4 times during the year. Driving into the paint with premier rim protectors in their prime like Kevin Garnett. Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, Rasheed Wallace, and more.
Kobe is considered MJ light, propped up against the career of LeBron James who had systemic advantages physically and situationally, allowing layman to stack their careers up against each other and deduce that LeBron James easily wins and so Kobe never got into the argument of the GOAT.

Imo kobe and mj gets the goat mention because they are very normal size compared to the general nba player at their position, and they are able to dig deep and find greatness. That's what humans want, to be able to be our greatest selves. Lbj gets slam because he's built like a god but you don't seem him find greatness within himself to often

It’s probably the shooting ineffencies, him constantly trashing his teammates, and maybe some of court r.ape stuff(probs shouldnt count against his bball ranking)

What kills me is that he wasn’t inefficient at all….i thought - like a lot of ppl - that he was about a 45% FG and 30% 3P shooter…but if you look at his core 98/99 - 12/13 (first time starting - last year before Achilles), he’s actually about a career 47% FG/35% 3P shooter….

…AND….while Wade and Lebron are “better” career FG% shooters than Kobe, that requires a LOT of context..
Both Wade/Lebron shot a lot more closer to the basket (5 feet and in)….and Wade is also very good around 5-9 feet….
….but they are HORRID (40% or less) between 10-24 feet! Lebron is somewhere between 33%-43% from the 5-24 ft range throughout his career…
Kobe, on the other hand, is a pretty consistent 45% across the board in the same range (the ONE exception was the 03/04 season - when he was going through the trial : his shooting splits were NOT good)…
He looks bad in the “stats era” because of how they’re weighted AGAINST him….Wade and Lebron shot 50-60% of their field goals within 10 feet and those are at a 10-30% higher FG efficiency….he’s still a better shooter than both of them, but the way that the stats are presented won’t show that.

Plus with the teammates, the guys on those 08-10 teams say Kobe was great even after that as well. If you are not gonna work hard, as the leader, the man who had won multiple championships knows what it takes, so why would he accept something less. The guys that on 08-10 say he was a great teammate Gasol, Odom, Fish, metta love him. Even shaq when they was beefing was saying his praise.

He was never inefficient. He just played a lot of iso anytime he needed a score you get a bucket better than anybody in the whole league. Maybe in history

They forget to get to the finals you need to win those playoff series before and in many on those series Kobe was the leading scorer the leading 4th quarter scorer and in some cases the whole play offs he avg the most forth quarter pts. With out Kobe they aren’t winning some of those series. kobe was just as important as Shaq to the team and it was more like a magic and Kareem deal than a Scottie and Micheal type. Kobe is the best laker of all time. Although magic has a strong case and wouldn’t argue against people who Chose them.
