- There are new HF Radio Bag Inserts for the Explorer Backpacks from Gigaparts. Now you can choose from a laptop sleeve, or from bags for the Icom IC-7300, Yaesu FT-891, Yaes FT-991a or Yaesu FT-817/818. Coming soon there will be a new IC-705 bag which is larger than the original, so you will be able to add a Peovi (or similar) cage to the 705 and have it fit into the new bag.

Let’s go 710! Just a smidgen larger than the 991. Just a thought about one of those waterproof poncho type bags that hide in one of the pockets and can cover the whole bag if you get caught in the rain.
Black cases that will hold lifepo4 batteries.. and molle compatible
@@Mike_M_KI4MRC Already in the works!
@@jarredjones8476 I have thoughts on this!
If your running a higher power radio don't forget about heat. These bags are great but they also act like a blanket. If your running higher power it would be easy to overheat a radio due to lack of air flow if you operate it in the sleeve or bag. Just something to remember.
The bag is more of a transport mechanism, it doesn't mean you have to operate the radio from within the bag
@@HamRadio2 I know that and you know that. Problem is some operators don't. I have seen people in the field operating at 100W with a radio in a bag and the back of the radio completely covered. Not a problem though, I keep a large inventory of final transistors in stock. 🙂
*you're
Great stuff, thanks! I would really like to see a bag for the FTDX-10.
Aloha Jason, you bring up a great point about the color of the bags cuz I will never ever buy a brown back pack. I will buy Olive Green and Black but never Brown, the primary reason why I haven’t bought an Explorer back pack yet! 😮
our future sling bag will be black!
them great . the 7300 bad is on my list and the laptop sleave. it will fit 17 in laptop which I use POTA and most often 2 laptops . thin ones. looking for bag to carry DC commander 10 meter pole and antenna for POTA. I got some bags now but the pole doesn't fit. 73's
Great review I will pick up that back pack lots of storage and perfect for different radios!! 73
US DOD has gone with Velcro patches so you can change them quickly.
Thanks!
No problem!
I like the bag for the FT-891! I have flared rails from Portable Zero. Do you think the 891 would fit with the rails ?
I'm not sure but I don't think so
Thank you , I was thinking the same thing. Happy 4th of July to you !!!
Thanks for the review and the discount Jason, just ordered one with a zippered pouch and 891 holder. A couple of my friends have it and love it. Good price considering the quality and customization options.

7300 bag is nice. They need bags for the I 2730, all current Y 2/.70M rigs.
I bet that bag I had my 578 in will fit the 2730 just fine
991A? Really? ugh. When is one coming for the FTDX10??? Will the FTDX10 fit in the 7300 bag? I'm glad they have the 891 bag though!
991A has been around longer and it actuall a bit more portable than the FTDX10. I will check the 7300 bag but I don't think it'll fit.
@@HamRadio2 And does VHF/UHF. Reason it's so popular.
Used the coupon and bought the bag and the 7300 sleeve. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Will the 991 bag fit a 710?
I am building a Yagi antenna would it effect the performance if I mount it on a metal pole? WQ9V
Should be fine
Do you know if the 7300 or 991a bag will fit the FT-710? Or do they have one for the 710?
I suspect the 7300 bag will but I don't have a 710 to test
@@HamRadio2 I actually looked up the dimensions, and the FT-710 is a bit longer than the IC-7300. That said, those flaps look like they have a lot of potential play in them, so it might work. Either way, it'd be good if Gigaparts could chime in on the subject!
Thanks for all you do!
@@unclemikeyplays It will fit but it will be tight!
@@GigaPartsHuntsville Makes sense! Thank you! Any plans for a 710-specific sleeve, or is the idea to produce a range that's got a few specific targets and is otherwise flexible enough to adapt?
@@unclemikeyplays There will be a specific case for the 710 and other radios!
Can you see if the FT-710 will fit in the 7300 bag?
I believe they have a bag for the 710. If not, it will probably fit in the 991A bag
Nice, haven't seen this yet. Makes me want to port the 6600 w/Maestro :)
Giga: Plenty of I 703/706/7k's still out there!
Can someone post measurements for the 891 case? I have Armoloq rails on my 891. Curious if it can squeeze in the case.
It would stick out the top and bottom quite far. With the Armoloq I would question why you would need it at all though.
Did my eyes deceive me? The YT notification on my phone said 3/29/24 ??? March? Not later today?
Take the leap! ;)
Ummm... Leap year. LOL
Nice looking bag! Tnx man!
Thanks!
Is the new 705 bag that fits Peovi Available yet? Tnx and 73
I think that is coming this summer, hopefully by The Huntsville hamfest
@@HamRadio2 Thanks! 73
My bag's carry handle strap broke instantly with nothing in it other than a solar panel. I'm going to have to go in and exchange it, I hope it was just a fluke.
Can you do a activation with the FT-891 in it's sleeve or would it get to hot? Thank you K9TPT
I can try
Need a pouch for the Bioenno 12/20 battery
I'm working with them on something like this
I wish they offered these in OD green.
Yeah that is the color I am trying to get them to make
Jason. Rosenberg tomorrow for Hamfest?
I was there today and will be back tomorrow
Please don't tell my XYL that the 991A is portable. I used the 991A non-portability tale to justify getting the 891. That was after justifying the purchase of the 991A as being a shack-in-the-box and the last radio I would need to buy. 😇
Total honesty here... But i know very little about ham tacos but would love to know your thoughts on a radio for someone who would like to purchase a ham radio to put in closet for any doomsday scenario that would give me the best way to communicate if all goes bad...i realize this is not a good practice but honestly hoping i never need it... Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it... Also... As cheap as possible... Please excuse my ignorance and thank you for any advice... I'll even kick in a few dollars on a super thanks... Thanks in advance
Obviously should have said ham radio... Not ham taco...lol
Yeah check this out - th-cam.com/video/LLIxRV_a_R0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HamRadio2.0
Ham tacos sounds amazing. I know what I'm having for dinner tonight.
Giga needs to put dementions of all bags so you could use a bag on another rig
Good Idea!
G90???
I think they are working on that
@@HamRadio2I’d like to see dimensions on their product listings at least. I have a Velcro lined pack and the laptop sleeve and a pouch fitting g90 would be perfect
@@HamRadio2 Indeed we are!
Coming soon!
Well i hope that premier in 29 days is a typo
No it wasn't a typo, but I chose the 29th not realizing it was March instead of February
They spent more time on the pouches and functionality and left out the QA on the zippers !! Less than a few weeks in, zippers have failed. Zipper rails have bent to no use !! Zippers came off track while in the field. Wasted $100 plus on a bag that is useless !! I went back to my 5.11 tactical bag, which has seen more than enough abuse and still going strong. These are ok for a one or 2 out trip occasionally!Don’t waste your money on this bag, the price is low for a reason !!
