I’ve been struggling with slight ripples on the edge of my embroidery designs. I thought it was because I wasn’t hooping tight enough. And I kept trying to make it tighter. Didn’t help. Now I know the problem. Thank you. I’m anxious to try your technique!
I have the same hoop, Martin, so I assume you have a Brother Embroidery machine? I have never had to pin my stabiliser and I leave very little margins but what I do it I tighten the screw up by hand until I can't tighten it any more and then I use the tool to tighten it more. I have been using this method for a couple of decades at least and I have never had stabiliser shifting. I would also worry that using pins in this way might invalidate the warranty. These hoops are made to be secure and tightened using the tool provided and will secure the stabiliser so it won't move at all.
To bad you didn't actually use fabric to put on that method with the stabilizer.. do I just lay the fabric on top or do I hoop it along with the stabilizer?
These are straight pins that have curved over time and under pressure from the embroidery hoop. This is why we do this technique. The pins go to show how much pressure the hoop is under to shift.

I use both the double sided tape and bent T-pins. Keeps everything from shifting beautifully. I highly recommend this technique!

Great tips, thank you! I have lots of the sticky tape from previously doing paper crafts, I'm going to give that a try.
Thanks for the tips. I was taught to make it tight as possible. This way makes much more sense. My edges are often very wavy now I know why. Thanks!

I never thought to use needles to prevent the fabric from moving around! Or even the double sticky tape! That's a great idea!

I just bend my T-pins with pliers. Keeps them from slipping into the gap.
