I feel like regional variants should have been a thing for a while, like Lockstin had this whole video of Garchomp being a sinnohian Sharpedo which actually makes a ton of sense
Also with Corpfish's pokedex entry that it migrated from another region but in the new region it evolved into Crawdant to camouflage itself for the new apex predators in the new region. Hence the star
@@taylorjames14 Alright I guess you haven’t seen Hisuian forms that only contain two Gen 1 Pokémon or the very large chunk of non-Gen 1 Pokémon from Galar or the new Galarian Evolutions of regional forms of Gen 1 Pokémon. You can try to say Perrserker doesn’t count because it evolves from Meowth but Mamoswine evolves from Piloswine and you wouldn’t call Mamoswine a Gen 2 Pokémon now would you They started with just Gen 1 Pokémon to ease people into the concept with recognizable moderately well known Pokémon and lately have just been tossing regional variants out for everyone ranging from Gen 1 to 6. I’m not including 7 yet because Decidueye is the only example so far.
@@taylorjames14 eh, gen one pokemon have been in every single pokedex at some point at least once regional variant or not........... tbh arbok and its pattern changing based on regions was already a cool "stepping stone" had they committed and just did that to more pokemon and maybe gen 5 instead of getting a ton of object pokemon like vanilite litwik and trubbish, maybe we couldve gotten the poison fire type torkoal or an ice dark type sharpedo instead of the "lack of creative pokemon" i mean sure you can argue how creative is changing a type and design for an already existing pokemon but it can sometimes just show a different creative way to have popular pokemon but with a spin..... like imagine showing up to giovanni and throwing out ninetales and hes like bet ill just use earthquake but instead you just ice beam him cause its alolan ninetales like that type of twist/spin is creative yanno?

Another bit of brilliance regarding the regional variant of Rockruff gaining the Ghost type in place of Rock type: Rockruff itself is based on the Hawaiian poi dog, a now extinct dog breed
I had designed a Hissuian Sinistea and Polteageist that is based on a traditional Japanese tea cup and then when it evolves a Tanooki and teapot fusion based on the story of the Tanooki trapped in a teapot. I would love to see it cleaned up by your phenomenal artists
for the lore of the bunelby regional variant, the island could have toxic sulfur pools and gasses made by an underwater volcano that caused the bunnelby to become the poison type in order to become immune to the toxic gasses and pools
Regional variants are one of the best things to come out of pokemon in recent years. Some of my ideas are a fire poison weezing based on volcanic gases, possibly native to Hoenn's fiery path as well as Eastern and Western variants for Sinnoh pokemon.
These are some really good designs, Johtoan Rockruff and Unovan Xatu are my favorites. I would love to see this become a series on the channel and to see what you come up with
Jotohnian Rockruff looks like how I would want the leaked ghost dog Pokémon to look in Scarlet and Violet. Although I kind of want to see Stoutland get a regional variant that’s ghost type in reference to the anime episode where Ash first catches Litten after the Stoutland that raised it died.(much like how Alolan Marrowak’s served as a call back to Cubones dead mom in the original game.)
Let's be real, is Eiscue really the most ridiculous looking thing in the world in a franchise filled with superpowered monsters you catch as pets? It's very derpy sure but looking over all of it I feel that Eiscue is very much on the tamer side. A penguin with its head incased in ice? Sure, that makes sense. Easy concepts to understand and bring together. Doesn't have to be the craziest thing in the world y'know? Enough of my little rant though, great vid!
Was kind of hoping for more of an explanation of these, especially Bewear. I like the concept that Kanto is full of these loving tanky pink normal fairies and chunky bois so Bewear became more like them. Also psychic types are super strong in Kanto so it was probably beneficial for them to evolve
Kantonian Bewear is not even that hard to come up with lore for. It could be something like “Due to the cultural exchange between Alola and Kanto, Bewear themselves were taken as pets to Kanto. Bewear really wanted to be loved and saw a trend of cute things, so successive generations evolved to become more friendly and cute to avoid people running away from it. As a result, however, it lacks the strength of Alolan Bewear.”
A cool regional variant for the Trubbish/Garbodor line could be a steel type that’s a pile gold and jewelry symbolizing the “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” saying. Its backstory could be that the due to the constant ridicule from peole from other regions the species never felt appreciated until they came to the new region were people began showing them love, making them transform into the new variant. It could also be noted that the line holds a grudge against people from other regions and only shares its treasure with the people who gave them affection when they were still piles of garbage. (P.S. it would also make for an awesome silver shiny with different colored jewels)
Xatu looks insane compared to its currently existing design. I would definitely catch it as well as Bunnelby because I love its color scheme and it's interesting how it turns into a poison type in Hoenn! But I definitely wouldn't pass up Flying-Ice type Hoothoot!
How do you do to always show fan Pokemons that makes me hyped up? Like seriously, there hasn't been any of those design that displeased me yet! Also, Kantonian Bewear life sized plush would be selling like hot cakes. Belmonte, you rock.
I’m hyped about Fakemon since wayback, maybe 10+ years back and it’s awesome to speculate about them and how pokemon actually could turn out to be. I always wondered why GF never hired a few of those fakemon artist cause honestly, i’m not that blown away by the Gen9 Pokedex, lot of lazy designs
Someone else might have already pointed this out, but Rockruff also works as a regional variant due to the extict species of Japanese wolves that make the ghost typing even more fitting.
“Which is a monumental feat for Pokemon mechanics these days” That speaks volumes to GameFreak’s recent mentality towards Pokemon mechanics When Mega evolutions were added, people thought it was going to be permanent like regular evolutions But now we pray each generation that GameFreak doesn’t decide to just stop doing regional variants just because they can’t put a new spin to the mechanic like “regional form only evolutions” or “convergent evolution”
The only thing that made me sad is we did not see the pre-evolutions and evolutions for these forms ... ... of course, I am talking about that adorable Johto Rockruff
I tend to prefer the newer design philosophy of basing Pokemon more on the actual culture and region that they inhabit, so I feel like adding more regional variants to earlier gens is a way to breath life into some older regions. I absolutely need that Xatu, Rockruff, and Hoothoot.
8:50 ive got an idea. “These Bunnelby were released on (island name) Island about 40 years ago. However, these Bunnelby had to endure emissions from the now-abandoned factory on the island, giving them the ability to secrete toxic waste from their purple fur.” the island could be a tourism site (like that one partially sunken thing in oras) that’s main attraction is the factory. maybe the lore about it is it was going under the radar for emissions acts violations, leaving it abandoned. or maybe it’s the Evil Team’s (obviously specializing in poison types lmao) base now.
I really hope wobbuffet gets a regional variant of even a new form, like a madness form, where the tail possesses wobbuffet's body and becomes a dark type.
Rockruff is my favorite dog Pokémon and Johto is my favorite region, so Johtonian Rockruff is perfect and I love it! Hoennian Bunnelby and Kalosian Hoot-hoot are cuties too
I love these! The hoot hoot one is awesome but they would really need to change the shiny colors for the regional one. No one wants a yellow snow pokemon.
I knew about the reference you used for bunnelby, but I felt if anything it would have been a Kantoian considering Cinnabar Island was know for it's experiments. Also I think gaining a poison typing in addition to original typing making it a Normal/Poison suit your reference.
That Jhoto Rockruff is AMAZING! Also, very fitting since Jhoto has a train. That Bunnelby one was also quite inspired! I love the story to it. That Xatu is also super cool! That snowball Hoothoot is surprisingly cute. lol
11:16 I personally dislike the Eiscue Sinnohan variant. The design was exactly the same but with ice covering the stomach area. The concept being about it being from Sinnoh and floating over to Galar is ok, but not that complex enough to create a regional variant around it (in my opinion) - instead it would just explain a regular Eiscue being in Sinnoh. I believe the design could be improved upon with addition to the context (not to say that the art itself is bad; just that it didn’t really have a complex enough basis). Concept: Eiscue are from Sinnoh and float over to Galar - hence there is a Sinnohan form. (Original Concept) Eiscue are penguins - like the Piplup line and Delibird, Piplup being a starter from that region. You could adapt Eiscue’s design to complement and draw similarity to Piplup, Prinplup and Empoleon. Perhaps even drawing from Empoleon’s concept of being Napoleon - a military leader - by making it a type of French soldier or based off of another military leader - like the grenadiers (people who threw grenades in his army). You could make it’s head-ice round and bomb-shaped and the rest of it’s body round, maybe making it’s tail a fuse. It may mix two unrelated concepts, but with reason. It builds off of Empoleon’s concept and adds to it to make both Pokemon richer in the process. I hope to see more content like this from you in the future - as I enjoy it. Edit: This could also work well as a Kalosian Variant.
Kantonian Bewear could've been the product of selective breeding. Kanto natives loved the cuteness of Stufful, but not the aggressiveness of Bewear. So they carefully bred them purely for cute and cuddliness.
Between Johto and Kanto I can see it sharing the same pokemon since they're essentially two halves of one coubtry/continent but would definitely have some variants elsewhere or Hoenn would have a Kanto variant or something
some johto pokemon didn't appear until postgame in GSC either, and in kanto...so are they Kanto varients or johto ones? are there more johto varients of the these pokemon in the johto pokedex?
Bewear's ears look like egg cup holders, but I like them. Hoothoot looks like a 'cool' plushy, absolutely huggable. Speaking of hugs, Rockruff seems to need a hug to.
I hate the original eiscue but I actually really like that new design. Probably because the ice cube penguin concept is pushed more, instead of just being a penguin with an ice cube on its head. It also has a more interesting, square silouhette
*YEEEEEES.* For remakes going forward, they should have regional variants. Yes, even the really old ones like Kanto and Johto. I mean, Sinnoh technically had them, just in the distant past when it was known as Hisui.
galarian zigzagoons pokedex entry in shield: “Thought to be the oldest form of zigzagoon […]“. this implies that the zigzagoon we see in all other regions are the regional form, as they are the ones that have adapted, not the other way around.
Idea; Kalosian Mightyana; a Dark/Ghost type based on the beast of gevaudan. The idea behind this is one of the many "wolf" attacks in gevaudan was actually caused by a escaped hyena, hence it being a regeonal Mightyana.
I reckon they should do a paldaian (new Pokémon) so they can tease another region while also showing a Spanish version of that Pokémon while keeping its actual form secret
There’s something about most of fan made fakemons that make them seem kinda off. Like that they’re cool designs but I wouldn’t be able to see them in an actual Pokémon game. This is one of the few where both the design, style, and influence all seem to mesh so perfectly into Pokémon. I could easily see any of these added into the games and the reasoning behind each is so well thought out. Fantastic job!
For the slightly more family friendly reason Bunnelby I feel the fact that volcanic ash is fairly toxic could be decent, and Hoenn does have a very prominent amount of volcanic activity
I would use Bewear and Hoothoot plus a regional evolution. Bewear would evolve into a fairy-psychic with a dex entry that states: "This pokemon gains the psychic typing as to travel around the region more effectively. It senses danger with psychic powers as if it were using sonar." Noctowl new evolution will drop the fly type and become a pure ice type. The pokemon will evolve in the snowy weather and is called Chilowl. The dex entry would go something like this: "This pokemon is considered to be a myth due to the rarity of the sightings. The pokemon evolved into Chilowl due to the enemies and cold it encountered. Evolution has made this pokemon durable in the cold."
I would’ve liked more in universe reason for these adaptations. You gave real life inspirations, but there was no explanation on how the adaptation happened within the context of the game
I simply NEED that Snowball Hoothoot! I also have to say that I really like that Hoennian Bunnelby even though I don't really like the official Bunnelby.
My guess is that we won't get ancient Kanto nor Johto, but something more like a Kanjoh region that includes the whole Gen II (& its Gen IV remakes) map.
Here's something interesting to think about: the only regional variants that are Water-type are Hisuian Samurott and the White-striped Basculin. Which were already Water-type
For Karlos, I would have also put nice aesthetically appealing Pokémon like Lopunny or Gothitelle, with a more bougie / aristocracy look. It would be found in the Versailles Castle (i don’t remember the in-game name) Or some Pokémon related to Bretagne because it’s a big part of Kalos map
Interesting detail, the rabbits on rabbit island relies mostly on tourists food, because the overpopulation ate mostly all of flora there, so when there aren't tourists, is very common to they compete or go cannibal, even because of that and inbreeding, bunnies there saddly have lots of diseases, this could complement the poison type and maybe even a dark type
I loved all of these! (even Eiscue, I too despite it too but you guys did a great job!) I personally have thought about Kantonian forms waaaaaaaaaay too much (maybe one day I'll make my own video who knows), and favorites of mine are a more ninja based regional variant of Aegislash but I constantly change my mind on what type it should be, and a pure Fairy Type Ralts that lives in Mount Moon, known for guiding weary travelers and losing its Psychic Typing to be more Fairy Type thanks to, speculatively, the legends behind Mount Moon and Clefairy's true origins. Kirlia and Gardevoir would then be Fairy/Dark with Gallade being another type I haven't entirely decided on, but he obviously needs to be a different type.
Love these concepts - and love how you made them connect to something in the history of the places the region was based on! Also, wow, this REALLY makes me wish we got at least ONE Sinnohan form of a [Unova/Kalos/Alola/Galar] Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, lol Oh, also, it's been confirmed that the adjective form for Johto is "Johtonian"! :D -Paintspot Infez Wasabi!
Okunoshima Island and Hoennian Bunnelby makes me think of, what if there were more Poison-Type rabbit Pokemon? Expanding on that idea, in fact, since Okunoshima is very close to Shikoku, which also has at least one more very interesting spot that I'd love to see covered in a Pokemon game, Miyoshi City, which one part was Yamashiro City, a hotspot for Youkai sightings, what if there was a whole region based on Shikoku?
Corphish and Crawdaunt should've gotten a regional variant, as they already are described as having changed to the habitat of Hoenn to look more like the apex predator of Sharpedo
Johto: green poliwag line, making politoad the Johto evolution of poliwhirl instead of a branched one. Lore would be similar to the lore of the colors of shellos
I once thought of the idea of a character who wants to travel to the past and put new Pokémon there, jus tsp that they can “create regional variants” .
I wont lie, i genuinely thought that Kalos Hoothoot was meant to be a reference to The Man In The Moon, that original french movie because of how moon-like it was and how art inspired and influenced Kalos is as a region.
Johtoan Rockruff could also go along with one of the big lore plot points from Gen 2. The story of the 3 Pokemon that perished in the tower that burned down and revived as the 3 legendary dogs could be represented as Johtoan Rockruff. Then again, that might also be my wishful thinking for another dog to flesh out the lore even more.
My dream regional variant that I think would be the perfect pokemon is a Poison/Steel Hydriegon. The hydra for Heracles's myth is described as having scales as hard as iron and deathly poisonous blood and breath. Also its only weakness was fire, and look what would be the only weakness of a Poison/Steel with levitate would be. This would also be the perfect revenge for Hydriegon being used as a punching bag in all of the promotion of the new fairy type.

Eiscue are penguins - like the Piplup line and Delibird, Piplup being a starter from that region.
Could have also been the work of a company trying to create a rival to Chancey, which would add to the worldbuilding ever so slightly.
It would be interesting for Hoenn variant Bunnelby to release hazard tracks in the overworld
RIP to Stunfisk being forgotten about as a Gen 5 Pokémon having a regional form in Galar 😅😂 just fading into the background as always
Considering that really old video of a snowball fight recorded in France over a hundred years ago, the hoothoot snowball is even more fitting.
I like how it’s 3 mammals, then 3 birds lol
the Johtoan Lycanrocks could be a happy doggo who found a new owner for midday form, and a vengeful sprit doggo for midnight
Actually you could make the island have something to do with poisonous gas, just call it the koffing island
I love the Hoothoot, I wonder what the evolved form will look like?
I think Unovan Xatu is my favorite of these
Ive never seen this man talk about hoops or hiphop but love when he talks about pokemons
*YEEEEEES.*
For remakes going forward, they should have regional variants. Yes, even the really old ones like Kanto and Johto. I mean, Sinnoh technically had them, just in the distant past when it was known as Hisui.
I would really like to see evolutions for Johtoian Rockruff, Hoennian Bunnelby and Kalosian Hoothoot.
Rockruff has to be my favourite!
galarian zigzagoons pokedex entry in shield: “Thought to be the oldest form of zigzagoon […]“.
this implies that the zigzagoon we see in all other regions are the regional form, as they are the ones that have adapted, not the other way around.
I don't think it'll happen, but I'd love to see regional forms of Elgyem and Trubbish
I'm actually amazed Mr. Mime did not have any Kalos connection at all, maybe it being it's original home region, all things considered.
i would love the kalosian hoothoot, since i love snow owls, and my hoothoot in my party is named popsicle XD
I want Johto Rockruff to be a real thing!
My favourite thing about these videos is that pokémon I am not too fond of get sweet, sweet redemption. THIS Xatu?? Love it.
lmaooo 8:20 this is such a good idea but good luck having japan ever admit or reference this type of stuff 😭
I would LOVE having Johtoan Rockruff and Unovan Xatu on my party. They're perfect! I love these regional form better than their original form.
I’d love to see a unovan revaroom based off a taxi
for poison bunnelby island you could probably write it as a waste management facility, toss in some trubbish and grimer and call it a day
For the slightly more family friendly reason Bunnelby I feel the fact that volcanic ash is fairly toxic could be decent, and Hoenn does have a very prominent amount of volcanic activity
15:20, wait… so Kalosian Hoothoot’s shiny will be yellow, huh?
Well, you know what they say about yellow snow!
Sounds like a time where the two regions were just one but due to diversity decided to split away.
It would be found in the Versailles Castle (i don’t remember the in-game name)
Or some Pokémon related to Bretagne because it’s a big part of Kalos map
Interesting detail, the rabbits on rabbit island relies mostly on tourists food, because the overpopulation ate mostly all of flora there, so when there aren't tourists, is very common to they compete or go cannibal, even because of that and inbreeding, bunnies there saddly have lots of diseases, this could complement the poison type and maybe even a dark type
The canonical colonization adds so much more to this
Imagine Orrean Onix made of Sandstone based on the concept of sand worms, with a different evolution
8:44 ...Hoenn is also the place where they did inhumane Pokemon experimentation on that one ship with the Spiritomb
I loved all of these! (even Eiscue, I too despite it too but you guys did a great job!)
I personally have thought about Kantonian forms waaaaaaaaaay too much (maybe one day I'll make my own video who knows), and favorites of mine are a more ninja based regional variant of Aegislash but I constantly change my mind on what type it should be, and a pure Fairy Type Ralts that lives in Mount Moon, known for guiding weary travelers and losing its Psychic Typing to be more Fairy Type thanks to, speculatively, the legends behind Mount Moon and Clefairy's true origins. Kirlia and Gardevoir would then be Fairy/Dark with Gallade being another type I haven't entirely decided on, but he obviously needs to be a different type.
Love these concepts - and love how you made them connect to something in the history of the places the region was based on!
Also, wow, this REALLY makes me wish we got at least ONE Sinnohan form of a [Unova/Kalos/Alola/Galar] Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, lol
Oh, also, it's been confirmed that the adjective form for Johto is "Johtonian"! :D
-Paintspot Infez
Wasabi!
A Paldean Tauros to reference the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain feels like a natural candidate. Perhaps a Fighting type?
Okunoshima Island and Hoennian Bunnelby makes me think of, what if there were more Poison-Type rabbit Pokemon? Expanding on that idea, in fact, since Okunoshima is very close to Shikoku, which also has at least one more very interesting spot that I'd love to see covered in a Pokemon game, Miyoshi City, which one part was Yamashiro City, a hotspot for Youkai sightings, what if there was a whole region based on Shikoku?
would Johto Rockruff finally show us Dawn Form Lycanroc?
I would so add the regional forms of Rockruff and Hoothoot to my team! They're my absolute favorites of this list!
Showing the other parts of these families would be amazing 👀
3:39 dude, it’s litteraly what I wanted as my fav Pokémon 😭😭😭😭
Technically, the Executor is a Kantonian form from Alola
Corphish and Crawdaunt should've gotten a regional variant, as they already are described as having changed to the habitat of Hoenn to look more like the apex predator of Sharpedo
Johto: green poliwag line, making politoad the Johto evolution of poliwhirl instead of a branched one. Lore would be similar to the lore of the colors of shellos
Sinnohan Eiscue is the bomb!!! Makes perfect sense as well and love it
I NEED THAT ROCKRUFF TODAY. RIGHT NOW.
