As many others have mentioned, these are intended for 28mm/tabletop gaming. I've built several Rubicon kits for some games and really do find them nice. I had been waiting for the Huey and this is a fantastic look into it, sir. I do agree with your assessment from the perspective of a static modeler, and shall be looking to pick one up. Thank you!
A sound score of 9 and 1/2 Peter reading some of the other comments these are a tabletop gaming scale, detail was very good l think the riveting can be worked round, well done to Dave for letting you review it have heard of Rubicon but never seen a review so well done Peter another 10/10 from me 👍
Thanks Barry...want to see more of their products now! 👍🏻
Hi Peter, I Have built their Centurion MBT Mk5-1 and it went together very smoothly. I am currently building Valentine IX/X/XI and that is going well too. The kit you have just reviewed is also in my possession. I tend to build these kits between a major project as a break from fine detail kits, but they do present well when completed. 😎
Finally, my preferred scale!
I had never heard of this scale for war gaming but it looks like a very good kit👍👍👍Thanks for the review.
I discovered Rubicon after wanting to downsize from 1/35 due to lack of space but didn’t fancy 1/72. I’ve become addicted to them and find the scale and models ideal for dioramas. Never had a single build issue and for quality trump Warlord Games kits (made by Italeri) their main rival.
As you mention, a decent primer sorts out any rivet scale issues (they are after all meant to be viewed from about 6 ft as wargaming pieces),MR Hobby 1000 or 500 does the job.
My only gripe is a lack of size compatible figures in that scale (other than those supplied with kit) as most 28 mm/1/56 scale figures are nearer 1/48 in size. Hopefully Rubicon will expand their range of ww2 figures as they have done with Vietnam.
Rubicon are to 28 mm what Tamiya are to 1/35-48,love them and restored some fun back into my long covid addled brain!
I see Rubicon models here in Japan, especially their WW2 scale tanks, at the recent hobby show, they had a booth and gave out some free figures in their 1/56 scale and I've seen their Huey. The quality appears to be quite nice, however, I have no use for 1/56 scale, so I've been using it as a paint mule.
I've been a fan of Rubicon since they first started. As a 28mm Wargamer I feel their models have been well received. I certainly like them as do most of my gaming mates.
Anyway, I enjoyed your review and will keep an eye out for any more 1/56th stuff you do. Cheers.
Now I know why my 1/56 Whirlwind fell to bits.
Hi Peter With ABS plastic you can use old tube glue! So don't throw away the tubes from an Airfix Starter sets
Lol! Might get a bit messy though...🤣
Went to my local hobbyshop -needed paint- but there on the shelf, Tamiya do and ABS cement - Blue top.
@@mikeward8597 Perfect! 👍🏻
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Labtyping this before you get to opening the box,the "information" gods must have been listing to you,Peter.🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@jaws848 Yes indeed! Its a good ‘un… I feel vindicated! 👍🏻🤣
Esse é o kit mais perto do lendário Bell uh-1 eu só lamento por se na escala 1/56
I build a lot of Rubicon and you will have seen some of my completed builds on the stand at Telford. I have some builds of Rubicon stuff on my channel, take a look at their range and I am sure you will be impressed.
Thanks! 😃 I was most impressed and will take a look at your work. 👍🏻
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab much appreciated, i absoloutely respect your opinion so let me know what you think, critique always welcome
These kits are primary made for tabletop wargaming, they are designed to pop from 2-4 feet distance to the eye, therefore some details are exceggerated. I like these kits, have 20+ of them, fit like a glove. Although the early kits were quite crappy (like wrong type of wheels of the panzer III)
A company based in Nottingham Warlord games who do wargaming subjects do very good ww2 figures
I think it is maybe a war-gamers scale Emdee? 🤔
You're right. It's 28-30mm models, mostly for gaming. Rainy day here, I'll be on deck for the live chat! 😀 Oh, and about Meng getting Wingnut Wings molds. I have a strong suspicion WW borrowed money from the Chinese to keep operating, and then the Chinese called in their loans and got the molds for practically nothing... That's how they operate... 😐
Okay nice to know. When I was much younger I used to play a lot with Airfix and Matchbox 1/32 and 1/72 - 1/76 scale toy soldiers.
I mean 28mm
1/56 scale? I don't think I've ever built a model in that scale.
Its definatly anodd ball scale
I might be incorrect, but I think the old Aurora armor kits were 1:56
Wargamming scale 20mm I think
28mm I think from the other comments. 👍🏻
If I remember correctly, the designer is american, but manufacturing is in China
It's a UK company manufacturing in China I think.
Hannants don't even list this manufacturer.
No They sell directly. rubiconmodels.co.uk/collections/back-in-stock
Peter I think the wargaming community do a lot of reseach into the subject the are interested in
.........уровень набора ниже среднего..........
Think it is pronounced Ira coy
Cheers, that does make sense. 👍🏻
