      @@AtomicSaunders yes. But if you don’t pay full coverage and you get hit by someone who doesn’t have insurance, your insurance is going to go up.
      People think that we pay a price for illegal immigrants and we’re just paying for their food and housing, but they don’t realize that because we pay for those our food and housing goes up. Also none of those people ever have insurance and they’re terrible drivers.

      @paulpetersen-iu1he you dont understand how liabilty insurance works. If you have liabilty only and someone hits you who doesnt have insurance you are SOL. The insurance company pays nothing. Thus their lack of insurance doesnt affect your rate for liabilty only.

      You gotta pay more for electricity because the negligent utility companies caused several raging fires that incinerated homes and people. You gotta to pay for the decommissioning of nuke power plants because the utilities were stupid and greedy; they jumped head-first into nuke power despite tens of million of Californians protesting against and warning of the creation of perennial high radioactive nuke waste that lives 100,000 years.

      You are right to not trust insurance companies. However, the blame belongs to the government.
      During Covid, shutting down the economy wrecked the supply chain. Causing massive distortions in the market. My car got totaled and the estimated repair from my collision friend was not far from the market price. The parts was low in supply, back logged, and many people I knew were waiting a year for parts. My car at the time was worth more than when I bought it. My collision guy helped me not get screwed by the party that totaled my car, insurance company. I got a huge payout, and used the money to buy a dumpy car I still use today because it is so cheap to insure, fuel, and maintain. All the insane price increases I eluded too were the fault of Trump and Newsome shutting down the economy. Not to mention CA insurance commissioner refusing to accept rates going up over the last 6 years and ongoing from the previous insurance commissioner. We are seeing these changes right now because market forces have forced the hands of regulators to respond to the reality of today’s situation, everything costs more than it did decades ago. No free lunches. You can’t get upset for people following their self interest. That is a large reason we have the government, to both adjudicate issues in court and create a fair marketplace. Get mad at the voters for tolerating bad government servants who are not doing their job. The minimum liability limit is a joke. If you hit a Tesla, you are financially wrecked. We don’t need government to make anything cheaper. We absolutely need government to ensure something like insurance has reasonable rules such as reasonable attempt to make sure the minimum can cover a reasonable amount of situations. When people ask for regulators to make something cheaper, they always do it in the most backwards way possible by cheating others. The free market does a better job bringing costs down. The government has a role in encouraging responsible adults to behave responsible, because they don’t, you get corruption and everything gets more expensive and unfair

    just to add to this, i am in california and was involved in a wreck in september. the wreck was the other driver's fault, but they only carried the state minimum liability of $5000 (not sure where you are getting this $15k number). my car was totalled so their liability coverage did nothing and i had to end up running the claim through the collision coverage on my own insurance. the thing i think most people don't know is about the uninsured/underinsured coverage. i had $100k of that coverage so i thought the accident would be covered by that - NOPE. uninsured/underinsured ONLY covers medical, not property damage. it's the person at fault's liability coverage that pays for whatever property damage of the not at fault party. and even if CA goes from $5k to $15k, it is NOT sufficient to cover current cars on the road. so i would advise everyone to carry collision insurance and make the deductible low for situations like these.

    • @RescueEMS
      @RescueEMS หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      The $15,000 BODILY INJURY number is right in the CA vehicle code (CVC 17151 et seq). It is called MFR (minimum financial responsibility). The number $5,000 is also in there, but relates only to property damage.

    • @kito1san

      If you have compressive which is part of your collision. Then you are set. Your insurance will cover your lost and they will chase after their insurance. This doesn't affect you other than just formalities/ info. Yes, it is a problem where that minimum needs to be raised. Yes, people needs to look into their insurance for proper coverage. Minimum will be cheaper cost but doesn't mean it will cover. Maybe buying a car should like be buying a home. If you can't get enough coverage to cover the other car (+yours if there is a loan) then you can't buy the car.

    In California we are supposed to already have approval for auto insurance before we can even drive a purchased car off the lot. I thought it is the Law! We report the car details to the insurance company once we buy it. Then we are legitimately covered. Why are there so many people driving around without car insurance? The rest of us law abiding citizens with auto insurance who pay our taxes and work full-time or part-time jobs, are paying for those who do not.
    It should be a law that if there is no car insurance then there is no car sale, and no driver's license issued. DMV should annually share info with auto insurers, not just for accidents.
    Having written all that, i will add that i think insurance costs are ridiculously high.

Second people do take chances and try to go without in order to save a few bucks. Too many unlicensed foreigners driving in the State, which increases claims. People are financing autos they really can't afford making for higher collision coverage costs. IF auto damages exceed vehicle value, the auto is totaled, and salvage value is used to reduce any excess claim against you as the wrongful driver. drive sanely to keep your rates low and reduce mileage per year
