Changing to dx11 completely fixed the crashing for me and I get better frames. At 4k, I only have that slow motion problem at the very start of a game when my hellpod is dropping but then it returns to normal before I hit the ground. I have a video if you want to skim through it and see.
I've wanted to be able to use DX11 to see if it was what happened to me, because my frames from the first month of release are gone. It seems that we can't use DX11 anymore, they blocked it from working somehow, i could not even get to the launch screen. :/
Damn man, yesterday i bought the game. I was unsatisfied with the performance at first and found a reddit thread about DX11... Didn't expect the performance gain to be this huge but it was, then youtube recommended this video. Crazy stuff
They are watching your every move lol. All joking aside though it happens to me too. You get recommendations of things you seem to find interest in which is not a bad thing imol.
DX11 is capable of using multiple threads, in fact it can use upwards to 16 threads. BUT it requires a lot of work to get working properly, the API actually has tools that can automate this but doing it manually is better. DX12 is easier as it falls back to driver level optimisations and allows the GPU schedulers to properly balance the thread the workload. This is why if you look on 1440p DX11 you get higher CPU usage than on DX12. This is because the API is trying to automate the threading whereas on DX12 its using around 10-15% less CPU usage but the workload is being better spread out across the threads of the CPU. Fun fact, Vulkan API has the ability to scale upwards of 64 thread limit, DX12 at the moment is 32. Basically anything passed 16 and more manual work is required but its easier than on DX11.
I feel like the cpu % has to do with the amount of fps you are getting, maybe using a limit both DX can achieve would show you a more accurate workload info
I checked and there is no problem with 4k on my 7900XTX + 5800X3d configuration. Everything works correctly. Performance increase similar to 1440p approximately 30%. Currently there is no reason to play on DX12. I don't see any difference in the graphics. Thanks for this video.
Its just a rendering method, u wont see any difference in graphics. dx12 should be better, but its still unoptimized it seems.... after almost 10 years xd
I still have a lot of stutters and micro stutters with 7900xtx and 5800x3d. Even with the latest updates for the game and xtx. I need to investigate it
@@SgtRock4445 Had some too, It was stability issue with memory. Increase voltage to 1.395 V with XMP profile. If u use curve optimiser, decrease it. U have to make PC 100% stable in order to have ZERO stutter.
@@CurseRazermore like the developers are not skilled enough to optimize dx12. dx12 is a lot more complicated and harder to code in comparison to dx11, due to giving much more controll of the rendering process and gpu resources to developers, which is actually the reason for it to be better, but it also unlocks a much worse potential.
Thank you for the video. I'm trying to squeeze as much out of my 3060 Ti as possible. At 4K, I get noticeable improvements but it doesn't feel as stable as 1440p as you're showing. I lose HDR, but before I saved15% GPU utilization at High settings, with +Ultra Quality scaling. This is definitely worth doing if one is going to choose 1440p.
@@TerraWare The devs are probably unaware their game is broken on AMD... Game caps at 96% usage natively the difference in performance between 1080p and 1440p is too small... With DX11 it works well but you get more stutter and 4k is unplayable... Maybe post this video on the game's subreddit so they fix this shit
@@100500danielAs far as I know, this behavior is the same on nvidia cards. They seem to intentionally keep a bit of overhead, as for a bugged game it has great FPS stability. FPS instability is a frequent issue on my RX 6800, so I end up manually setting max FPS targets on a per game basis as I prefer being jumping between 85 and 92 FPS rather than 85 to 160 for example. This wasn't necessary on hell divers, it was as if the game did this automatically Tho if it is indeed buged, I hope performance increases at a later date, specially the 1% lows (I consider them to be the important metric)
Huge gains at 1440p. Great job looking at this, surprised the difference is that big at 1440p. Might help out some people with lower end GPU's since this game seems so heavy. The 4k slow mo footage looked so cinematic with this game's animations lol.

I was playing DX11 4k native since the launch, since it was working for me on my 7900xtx, and I forgot to change. In the latest month, I got slow intro, ctrl issues and it was lagging a lot on the land. In the DX12 the issues disappeared. I didn't experienced the slow mo during my DX11 plays
It felt like DX11 looked a bit more washed out maybe but I cant say for certain really. Could just be placebo. I guess not enough of a visual difference to really matter to me personally from the limited testing I did.

@@Ricardo29j That's good to know. Yea if you go to the comments of this video and list them from newest you will see quite a few people saying this method (what I showed in the video) didnt work for them anymore.
I'm super late to this, but you should really try DX11 again in 4k, but with a frame cap. I notice the game doesn't really know what to do when it reaches a GPU limit, so the frame pacing freaks out even at high frame rates. When setting an FPS cap, even to something like 65 or 60, it should smooth it out almost completely and even resolve slowdown issues during drops. I actually tried this out with DXVK-GPLASYNC on windows and this is what fixed it for me. It appears to be an issue with HD2's DX11 implementation as a whole, which is rather interesting to me.
Are you having crashing issues with your 7900XTX Saphire? My game is constanting crashing with 15 minutes of playtime. Not sure what is the problem and even running it in DX11 doesnt save it

@terranigma4027 I tried 24.2.1and I still had crashes. Do you still run adrenaline edition? I am currently using their Beta driver and DX 11 to avoid timeouts, but still have one or two every night. Very disappointing for AMD's flagship card.

There isnt much of an improvement on the 1% lows unfortunately and the slow motion issues I encountered at 4K in this video is not how I'd wanna play.
I've got messages from my viewers saying some experience the slowdown and some don't. Not sure why it happens. I still found DX12 to be more overall consistent, despite lower average fps.

@@Glennburgss One thing that helped for me, besides switching to DX11 and updating drivers, was turning hardware acceleration off in Discord, if you have that running.
It can depend on what's going on like group play in harder difficulties with a lot of stuff going on can lead to drops in fps. Single player you may get a little better fps than myiplayer trying to extract for example. Some planets can also be a bit more demanding than others.
Just tried this and it definitely works a lot better at 1080p, went from 90-100fps on planet to 140+. At 4k I doubled my frames from 40 to 83 but i also get the slomo effect. DX12 has weird CPU usage and 11 def feels like it uses CPU cores better. Edit: I have a 5800x3d and a 4070ti
I tried it with my 6800 running at 1440p UW (3440x1440) just running laps around the ship, not in an actual mission yet, and I saw the same thing, big gains in everything except 1% lows. I wonder if the reason Nvidia seems to perform better than AMD in this game comes down to something causing issues with DX12 when running on AMD GPU's....
OK good to hear you're experiencing the same thing with 1% lows, I'm not the only one. Let me know if you experience any of the very unusual slow motion issues I experienced at 4K in the video. As for why DX12 doesnt run as performant on AMD I honestly couldn't tell yea. Could be a pipeline thing. Usually its the other way around. AMD GPU's underperform in DX11 but do better in DX12

Doesn't seem to do anything for me with a 4090/ 12900k. Guess this is an amd thing? My fps isn't bad per say, think most of my fps loss is just in the fact that I'm cpu bound.
I havent yet tried it on my 4090 but I dont think it would be necessary. Even here where you clearly get a lot more fps with the 7900XTX the 1% lows are still the saem and frametime is more consistent in DX12. DX12 is superior imo.

Looks like CPU utilisation is actually worse in DX12 compare to DX11. Which probably means that the DX12 code path lacks optimisations on the CPU side of things.
I don't agree although you may be right but I'd need to test Nvidia as well. I say this because DX11 clearly improves GPU utilization in 7900XTX, CPU is never an issue and we end up with practically the same 1% lows, sometimes better on DX12 even though we get less overall FPS. That fact the fps is lower in DX12 in this video is because of the way the 7900XTX is being utilized or maybe a combination of both CPU and GPU only on Radeon GPU's? I guess that could be possible. Good comparison but it's not only important the ammount of FPS, but also the % from both CPU and GPU and the temps they get, because using different DX causes variations on those 2 values as well. Utopically speaking, the best result is when you get the lowest CPU-% possible, the best GPU-% possible (BEST and not HIGHEST because not every time high GPU % means better), the lowest temps possible on both and the higher FPS possible on heavy load.
Awesome. Thanks for the post.
I feel like the cpu % has to do with the amount of fps you are getting, maybe using a limit both DX can achieve would show you a more accurate workload info
how do you configure it to use the threads?
I checked and there is no problem with 4k on my 7900XTX + 5800X3d configuration. Everything works correctly. Performance increase similar to 1440p approximately 30%. Currently there is no reason to play on DX12. I don't see any difference in the graphics. Thanks for this video.

I would have to do a similar test on Nvidia to find out a bit more.
@@TerraWare Looking at your video, DX12 shows GPU utilisation around 97% most of the time, whilst DX11 is it going to 100%. Since the CPU usage is higher coupled with higher GPU usage on DX11 tells me that AMDs DX 11 driver which is highly optimised is pushing the more CPU cores more than the DX12 pathway, which is ironic, as DX12 can utilise CPU core better, but it has to be properly done by the dev otherwise it can be worse than DX11.
They have disabled DX11 in last patch
Is that right?
@@TerraWare well game wont launch with dx11 setting
@@Carnag3Rsame thing happening to me, did you find a fix?
yeah i cant launch the game with dx11 setting
Try again? Apparently people experiencing this are having luck after the 2nd load?
okay so at first it did not work but when i changed the d's to big then the game started just so anyone else don't get a black screen !
Can you type out the exact launch command you used? because --useD3D11 still launches the game in dx12
Tried this and it would've been amazing if it didn't stutter so much when looking around in dx11
I see, so you're getting that slow motion thing too? I've got a couple comments to people saying it runs fine for them and some saying they experience the slowdown like I did in this video.
Interesting.
13900f/4080TUF with 1440p ultra wide, it seems like DX11 is the way to go on my system. Way more stable FPS on DX11 than DX12
How do you revert back to DX12?
Dx 11 works you have to wait first time I gain so much more performance 😭
Just delete the command in the Steam library 0:46
This literally doesn’t work at all, makes my game get stuck on a black screen upon launch
Interesting, have got all kinds of messages regarding this, you're the only one with this issue. Did you follow the directions exactly? What's your cpu gpu too out of curiosity.
@@TerraWare CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six Core
Graphics: Nvidia 1660ti
Hopefully it’ll work with the next update
@@fuhrerlandon I see. I'm actually recording some Ryzen 2600 footage for a CPU comparison video I'm making for thos game but never tried DX11 on it so can't say. The game was built for DX12 but have got comments from some people using GTX 1000 and RTX 2000 who said DX11 helped them. Not sure why you are getting black screen 🤔
Have to wait like 30 seconds, but it does load
Not only FPS but frametimes look better
It's so weird how DX12 has better smooth frametime but lower FPS and DX11 has better FPS but not so smooth frametime
Different architectures, DX12 is a lot more smooth and average, where as DX11 has higher highs and lower lows.
Using a rtx3070, i don't recommend using dx11 on nvidia cards, there is no point. You lose hdr, you dont even get the ootion to adjust ui brightness and the fps is much higher but it feels broken, slow mo thing happens too. Sad, miss dx11 cause this game maxes my r5 3600x and makes it cry.
i cant even get into a mission without hardcrashing and driver timeouts on dx12 on my 7900xtx 7950x system but dx11 runs super smooth no crashes at all
i'm on the latest drivers to guess some configs don't like dx12😅
Yeah it seems that way because since 24.2.1 I havent had any crashes on my 7900XTX/7800X 3D
you can make these gains with a simple UV/OV
How
rtx 4070 ti and ryzen 7950x3D amazing boost fps
nice video bro, tried on my 4090 and game wouldn't even load pass the black screen lol frame time was over 1000 m.s gpu usage at 0-3% xD
I have to wait a bit for the shaders to change, I did everything fine on the 4080!!
@@djurast5169 oh maybe that was the problem i had to be patient. THanks!
Not worth u pay over 1k$ for gpu and crashing like every 10-15 min only solution is turn off that option or that option i didnt pay that much money to turn off settings also it doesnt work i also had sapphire nitro and refun it at 3rd day
Good comparison but it's not only important the ammount of FPS, but also the % from both CPU and GPU and the temps they get, because using different DX causes variations on those 2 values as well.
Utopically speaking, the best result is when you get the lowest CPU-% possible, the best GPU-% possible (BEST and not HIGHEST because not every time high GPU % means better), the lowest temps possible on both and the higher FPS possible on heavy load.
It doesn't matter much if you get a lot of FPS but the CPU is overloaded or the GPU is not used correctly..
hope dev fix it.
dx11 its realy good for player want high fps
Intel CPU's performs a lot better on this game they get a lot more fps for the 13th and 14th gen cpus and about every AMD cpu is underperforming alot my same build at 1440p native with intel cpu gets 111 to 120 fps max settings but with a amd cpu it gets 88 to 100 fps I mean this game does not like AMD cpus even ps5 users have reported bad fps problem and they say it gets worst after every update
you save ma crash thanks
the game doesn't open now :D
Yeah so much changes with each update. I continuously get comments like this over time where it works than an update breaks it, than works again and breaks again.
If you wanted more consistent results to compare FPS difference you should have just rerun the tutorial, the live mission vary greatly between each run
Yeah but there's very little going on there. I have people wanting me to play on hardest difficulty extracting to compare lol which would be a good test to be fair. I've found a way now to get a more consistent side by side. Playing solo, entering a mission and than ALT F4ing out of the game, next time you launch it lets you start the same mission and its a matter of landing in the same spot and following the same route.
Gtx 1070ti black écran
Dx11 give mé Like 15 to 20 fps on average while playing 1440p native high settings and i gót around 74 fps sometimes more but cant get more fps and i playing on Rtx 3070 Like bruhhh this game is terrible made optimalization is sooo bad. IF i gót samé settings in dx12 i gót 60 fps in ship when i drop on the planét 55 in battle around 30 fps fuck that, i know game is CPU intensive but in dx12 its dont want to utilizate my gpu at full but CPU is at 30 to 60 percent crazy. I never seen run my Rtx 3070 this nad in online game and also why we need that shitty a ty cheat when this is pve game Like damn nahh. Game really shoukd work better than this. Cant belive how poor is performing on my PC. Fuck even cyberpunk at ultra quality settings 1440p native i playing at 80 85 fps and with full RT i turn on dlss quality or balanced and gót samé fps and cyberpunk is really demanding game but damn this thing this is nôt even good made the friend háve 7800x3d and Rtx 4080 and he playing at 4 and literally háve problems with running game cuz his fps are bad but stability of game is even worse than fps its keep crash Ing a lot, this solution work for him good but game crash Ing still samé with mé the fps gót better but game crash Ing more than before but IF i go back to DX 12 30 fps RIP great optimalized game.
damn, i hoped my life will go nicely if i switch to dx11, but i play on 4k *3072p upscaled to 3800* *skull emote*
Give it a try anyway I guess. Maybe it was something with my setup. I may check it out on my Nvidia gpu's out of curiosity or 6800xt.
This games interesting
Wow dx12 is such a scam!
dx11 = no hdr
Yeah that sucks. HDR is awesome in HD2
Am I the only one who thinks DX12 looks better?
I know the solution. Buy an Nvidia GPU and have fun. 👍
They both play the same games lol. I have a couple Nvidia gpu as well.
yes, pay 100% more for 20% better fps. NOPE
Dumbass.
