This is one of the most helpful tutorials on creating scanners I have found on YT. Great job. I wish ATR (Average True Range) was an option to add into the TOS scanner criteria, but it is not available from what I can see. Thank you very much for the deep dive!!
Matt, thank you for this video tutorial. It has helped me a lot - better that what TOS people are teaching. I do have a question, though. You used Daily timeframe for the watchlist/scanning. If I am using 1minute timeframe on my chart, do I have to change my watchlist/scan to 1 minute timeframe of leave it on Daily? Thanks
Glad it was helpful! To scan on the one minute chart for changes in STUDY FILTERS you must change the timeframe. To find any price information the timeframe will not matter. Hope this answers the question!
For liquidity, instead of Volume, which is only the current volume, I prefer the Study/Average Volume over 126day (6mo). Be sure D is showing at right so that it is looking at Daily Volumes. In this way I don't get stocks that have abnormally high volume such as after an earnings announcement.
@@TradeBrigade I wish TOS would tell you which scans are looking at end of day, and which scans are going on intra day and before/after market. Awesome video mate, few questions though. For the volume lets say you put 1 million in, and hit scan. Will it show you all stocks that have hit 1 million volume since the calendar day flips (midnight)? So if you scan at 8:30 AM EST will it show you all stocks that have traded 1 million in the last 8.5 hours (obviously probably not many since pre market)? And if you scan at 6 PM EST will it then show you all the ones that have traded that volume in the last 18 hours? You said volume on the "Day", so just wondering when the "Day" starts? So it is important to what time you scan depending on the strategy you are looking to play? Thanks in advance hope these questions made sense!

Thanks...great video. For some reason I can't get my studies to pull over to my charts when reviewing my WL (scan results). Even after saving / loading the appropriate scan query. Any simple answer (ha ha). Cheers, J
Hey J! What do you mean by have the studies pull over? The scanner can be exported to a WL and then whatever studies you have set on the chart should stay consistent as you move through the WL.
I really like your detail and clarity of presentation, including showing carefully your mouse clicks. I did find something today: The TOS top level scan set to NYSE also includes NASDAQ results. To check this (because I was comparing a SSE vs TOS simple scan) I set the top level scan to NYSE, and then scanned for Volume >10,000,000. On today's market I got 58 results, and 6 of them were NASDAQ.... VS, FLJ, LQR, NXU, AMD, AAL. I consider this a very basic flaw in the TOS system. I wonder how many other flaws are there that I cannot identify? Can anyone else check?
@@TradeBrigade Yes, I guess not technically wrong, and the NYSE is not well defined ("S&P500" is well defined) as to what is included or not, ie Arca stock/ETF's.
Street Smart Edge has a filter for showing the top option movers by %. Is that something that can be configured directly in this? I can add volatility and such to try and fake/simulate what will also likely be a top mover but for some reason the "% change" isn't a scannable filter it doesn't seem.
Is there a reason why you want to scan for the options? Why not just scan for the underlying which is the whole reason that the options would be moving aggressively any how? You can only scan % change mark on underlying via the "options hacker" scanning tool in ToS. Could build a custom scan if you wanted using think script.
I'd be looking for stocks that jumped unexpectedly. If an underlying has earnings and their options are all priced in and it jumps 50% overnight I wouldn't want to see that. The options wouldn't increase much since the jump was anticipated. Stocks where the jump is 50% and nobody saw it coming would have options prices in the 1000% range and those are what I would be looking for.@@TradeBrigade

Does the dynamic watchlist Update only for that Day scan was Conducted? Does it also take stocks out of watchlist when they fall out of the criteria? If it’s $25 and it falls to 24.00 will the watchlist update the same way it adds new ones that meet criteria
The scan will dynamically update regardless of day. So my high volume options scan pulls new data each morning. Yes when a stock falls out of criteria it is removed from the watchlist.

Hello Matt, on your video "Master the Think or Swim (ToS) Stock Scanner | Trading Tutorials", you first saved the scan as Scan Query (HQ NYSE Stocks)". You saved it again as Watchlist (6-27 HQ NYSE Stocks)". Then, to make the list dynamic, you used the HQ NYSE Stocks file. My questions are (1) Why did you have to save the list as Watchlist before making it dynamic using the "HQ NYSE Stocks" instead of going directly to making the list dynamic? I didn't see any need or purpose of saving as watchlist. (2) Is there a place in TOS to set when the watchlist updates or refreshes - for example, update every 5 minutes? Thanks.
To answer question #1, it was just as an example to show you how you could save the results of ANY scan to a list, say a scan you didnt want to be dynamic. So just for examples sake, its not a key step in saving a dynamic scan. Question #2 there is not. The best way I've found is to load something else, and then reload the scan you want to run. It will force a refresh. Hope this helps! Thanks for tuning in
Hello bro, my TOS platform doesn’t show scanning results before market open. Their customer services told me market has to open to show the results but in your video tickers pop up in the pre market. Any feedback ?
You can indeed. Make sure that the timeframe you are using is correct for the scan to return the desired results. For example, if you are running a daily scan criteria it wont pick up on oversold hourly RSI.
If I want, say, 40 or 60 different stock charts open, what's the best way to do that to make it least resource-intensive? I don't need them open at the same time, but need access to them, without having to type in the symbol to change a chart. Can I set up different layouts - say, with 20 charts of my current positions, 20 with ones I want to keep an eye on, 20 with sectors? - and swap between those layouts?
Yes you nailed it in your comment. I would create a watchlist widget for each list. From there go to flex grid and populate 20 cells. In the top options menu, you can load symbols to cells to save the time of having to type them in manually. From there save that flex grid layout as a set. Repeat for each of the three categories and then to pull them up you just change the flex grid layout. You could also detach the grids one by one so you had all three layouts open in separate windows.
How did you get so good with TOS? I would love to master it but everyday is filled with frustration. What do you recommend? (Besides watching your awesome tutorials 🙂) Earned a like and a new sub.

Thanks for tuning in
@@TradeBrigade Thanks a lot.
Awesome video
Thanks Rajnish!
Hello bro, my TOS platform doesn’t show scanning results before market open. Their customer services told me market has to open to show the results but in your video tickers pop up in the pre market. Any feedback ?
You should be able to run premarket scans for premarket criteria. Make sure there isnt a huge volume filter, usually that is what throws things off.
There are no x's for me to clear the 3 lines on the scanner. Any input on that?
You’ll need to scroll over to the right.

Can we use the scanner to screen ETF's I tried to scan on RSI and DMI but the results were wrong .
You can indeed. Make sure that the timeframe you are using is correct for the scan to return the desired results. For example, if you are running a daily scan criteria it wont pick up on oversold hourly RSI.
Very good
Appreciate the feedback!

Great stuff!
Thanks!
When I push Study it says I do not have permission for that function. Do you know what I need to do to fix this?
Hmm... Not entirely sure. Try resetting the platform? If that doesnt work might be worth reaching out to ToS support. I have never seen this before.
Hi I want to add a study on the scanner but it says I am not permission to add a custom study what can I do
Are you trading on a live account or paper account? Paper money accounts have restricted permissions.
Hello Trade Brigade, do you know how I can add Dollar Volume to the scan function ?
It would need to be coded as a custom study criteria.
@@TradeBrigade thank you!
@@TradeBrigade Thanks for that description; I'll try to go through that. By chance do you have a video on such a scenario, though, in case I struggle?
@@JackJensenTrader th-cam.com/video/hlxtb1FsQrw/w-d-xo.html The section on flexible grids in the later half of this video should help.
How did you get so good with TOS? I would love to master it but everyday is filled with frustration. What do you recommend? (Besides watching your awesome tutorials 🙂) Earned a like and a new sub.
Appreciate the comment! Thanks for the kind words about the tutorials, and glad to have you as a subscriber. I've gotten good over the years, it didnt come all naturally. Around year 3 I would say things started to click and I could really get the platform to bend and work for me, not the other way around. Stick with it and time will serve you well!!
@@TradeBrigade Thanks man, I'll keep at it and appreciate the encouragement.
I wish this was updated I'd like to be able to finish the studies portion, it'd be nice if he updated it. ")
The studies scanner?
Dumb question - Will this work for premarket also?
Yes it will! Just set the scanner criteria appropriately. ( As in expect lower volume, expect less movement, obviously options wont have any pre market volume, etc)
HI CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW I SCAN STOCK CURRENT PRICE IS HIGHER THEN PREVIOUS DAY HIGH ?
Set up the condition wizard > custom study: If price is greater than, prior day close.
