Directed by D.C. choreographer Emily Oleson, this work features Urban Artistry with Good Foot Dance Company and Baakari Wilder. The piece investigates the origins behind the term “buck dance,” which in tap dance history is used to describe an early American percussive dance style. Drawing on a short video of buck dance taken by Thomas Edison in 1894, the dancers use the technique of freestyling to compare different dance styles in conversation.

The repeating the same video was weird. But the dancing and telling the story was perfect and excellent. Very inspiriing. Thankyou for putting this on youtube.❤
Also in the where it was inspired by, why was the Celtic Irish not recognised and its connection to Sean Nos Dancing?

Great story of history there. Lots of culture blending was behind Buck and other later styles like Tap. Roots in Irish Sean Nos flatfooting, English & Welsh Clogging, all then merged with African steps and rhythms (possibly Juba) leading to Buck and Tap respectively.
