Since the sauce is a main ingredient I would have to say no it's not a topping. Similar to ketchup being added to meatloaf. It's not a topping when using in meatloaf. Yes, you can put the ketchup on after like a topping but it's added into the recipe.
First off, sauce is not a topping, if you ask for a burgerless cheeseburger, they will give it to you, but that isn't a cheeseburger any more, it's a cheese sandwich. if you get a sauceless pizza you now have cheese bread. Sauce is part of what makes a pizza, a pizza. Cheese is not a topping, but extra cheese is since it's added after the pizza is made. Secondly, Dave is right, a good sauce is important for a good pizza. If you can't get a third of the ingredients right, I don't care how many toppings you put on it, it's not going to make it good.
I think you can actually remove the sauce and cheese from pizza in some places. So I guess it is kind of a topping. You can also remove the buns and patty of a burger too.
Sauce is part of the base. If it were a topping, you'd be able to put it on top of all the other toppings, but I imagine most people would have an issue with that
You can do that, actually. Most Chicago style and a few Detroit style cook the sauce separately, bake the pizza, then spread or pour the warm sauce over the top of the melted cheese and other toppings. And if someone asked for "extra sauce" as a topping I wouldn't argue any more than with "extra cheese".
I have a friend who ordered “Surprise Pizza” in college. Basically ordered “whatever you want to make for me. Deliver (here).” Did it often enough that the manager made a list ahead of time of different pizzas specifically for when he ordered.
Just like to say Sauce is a pizza topping, it might be "Default" like cheese but you can pay more to get "extra sauce". As for the being on the bottom issue, it's not the only thing that goes under the cheese. Some times you get those little pepperoni chunks under the cheese, or more delicate things like Spinach goes under so it won't burn. Edit: Also there are alternate sauce options, things like Alfredo, BBQ sauce etc for pizzas.
Sauce is not a pizza topping. How I know this you ask? If you ask for a pizza without toppings you get a pizza with sauce and melted cheese on top of the dough, that's how. So, yes it's on top of the pizza, but not a topping.
Possibly hot take, but I think Donkeymint makes better Mario levels than Nintendo does. Everything is always creative and fun. Sure, Mario Wonder is the most creative thing Nintendo has done in awhile with 2D Mario, but I still think Donkeymint beats them out.
Pizza can be made without sauce, but it would not be a pizza if you had no sauce and no other toppings. That would just be thin molded bread. However, I think we should try to define what makes a pizza to understand what is and isn't a pizza topping. I'm gonna bring this over to food theory...
White Pizza is a thing. However, if you asked for a pizza with no toppings and someone brought you a white Pizza, you would be very upset lol. It has the modifier for a reason.
Sauce normally isn't a topping, however, there is the Detroit and Chicago pizzas where Sauce is a topping, so normally no, but it is a topping on those types of pies
The third level you played is simply amazing. Seriously, I don't know how people manage to achieve such perfect mechanics. For example, I don't understand how they can do it: When we miss a shot, the "P"s activate and we fall into the lava. I wonder how all this could be possible. I myself don't understand anything about the game's glitches. Small side note: I just don't understand why there are so many people failing the levels that the players or I can create and it's supposed to be easy. It happens that I do complicated levels and no one succeeds or only 2 or 3 are able to do between 35 to 80 tries. When I decide to do more relaxed levels, 1 or 2 players play and no succeed in 10 tries. X) I even did a level that was too easy where there were only rooms without obstacles with 500 seconds to the quadrant. 100% you can pass the level. There is an idiot who decided to use up the 500 seconds. I was planning it too. 29 in 30 at the moment. At the same time, I wanted to wish a Merry Christmas 2023! ^^
Considering the "options" for pizza topping discussed, I wonder - did Dave ever eat a real pizza? I mean, an Italian one with fresh Fior di latte, tomatoes, really thin bottom (the dough should be prepared at least 1 day beforehand) and absolutely no highly processed ingrediences? Baked in a stone oven at around 600°C. If this is possible to get in the US - I'm honestly not sure.
If he has, he might have not enjoyed as much as the processed American one. My American uncle says pizza might be Italian, but Americans improved it since the Italian one isn't as good (he's visited Italy many times). I get horrified everytime the says that, but he says he means it.
Last year when I was in northern Norway, I ate pizza in restaurant and after my first bite I was thinking "This is the best pizza I have ever tasted....AND I'M IN THE ARCTIC CIRCLE OF ALL PLACES!!"
Yesterday Dave said he wanted to be an ESPN personality. Today he channeled his inner Stephen A Smith and said something obviously ridiculous just to get people to interact with it. (“Sauce is a Pizza Topping”)
Technically speaking, sauce is a topping. I know, traditionally, most people think of sauce as a "base." However, you can order pizza sauce-less, making it optional just as every other topping is also optional. You can also at various pizza places order your pizza with marinara dollops on top, indicating that it is a topping. It doesn't have to be just marinara sauce either. MOD has an entire section of sauces you can put on your pizza like pesto sauce, balsamic fig glaze, etc. 100% is a topping, even though most people don't think of it that way.
Dave forgets that a pizza isn't just the crust - pizza at it's core is the crust, the sauce & the cheese in that order. If you don't have sauce and/or cheese on the crust, then it's not a pizza."Toppings" are what goes atop the cheese. Trying to say a bare crust is the actual pizza is like saying buttered toast is a sandwich.
Imagine if one of you learnt how to make gluten free pizza, and then you made a Wanna Pizza with exotic cheeses :). Also, I guess sauce IS a topping, considering "pizza biancaneve" (snow white pizza) is just dough and cheese. Although I think that's literally the only thing called pizza that has no sauce.
I was planning on opposing you to the end when pizzatopping became a topic, its a hill I'd die on, but I can't argue with sauce. People saying it doesn't count might be right, but that is not a chance I'd be willing to take
I believe I may have the answer for the debate about sauce. When you order a pizza online. You get to the topping section. You can choose no sauce, normal sauce, and extra sauce! Then continue to cheese and so on. If sauce isn't a topping. Then I believe cheese shouldn't count either. Thanks and good day sir! 🤣
Order a plain pizza: is it just bread? No, it is not. Bread baked with sauce and cheese already on top is the current standard. Hotdogs are sandwich descendants.
Sauce is a pizza topping because there are different types of sauce. You're not gonna put tomato based sauce on a BBQ Chicken Ranch pizza... that would be awful XD
Here's the way I see it: if you get a one-topping pizza at your local pizza joint, do you get a pizza with only sauce on it? No. Therefore, sauce is not a topping.
I get that giving birth is arguably the hardest thing the human body can recover from but like, you also don't get much say in the matter once the main event starts
As someone who makes pizza for a living, I can confirm sauce as a topping. Not everyone has red sauce, not everyone even has sauce. I’ve seen no sauce, red sauce, marinara sauce, garlic butter, olive oil, Alfredo, barbecue, Italian dressing, and everywhere in between and combined.
Pizzas with no sauce need to be called out specially, just like pizzas with no cheese. Some styles of pizza have no sauce by default (Margherita). Extra sauce and extra cheese are both valid toppings. The only truly set in stone ingredient is the bread - no dough means it's not a pie. All the usual pizza toppings on something other than crust has made it a non-pizza, but merely pizza flavored or pizza adjacent (and many of these options are delicious).

If you call a pizza place and say "A pizza with no toppings", you're getting at LEAST a cheese pizza. Maybe pepperoni, depends on the place. Most likely, they'll ask "Do you want pepperoni?" to try to determine with "no toppings" means to you, but if you say no to pepperoni, you're getting sauce and cheese. You can swap the sauce for different kinds. Some pizzas use barbeque sauce, some pizzas use a white sauce, "dessert pizzas" can use an apple pie "sauce" or a cinnamon/sugar sauce, but there's gonna be SOME sauce. You can swap cheese for different kinds, or even something completely different for a non-standard pizza (like a "dessert pizza"), but you basically need "some sort of bread", "some sort of sauce/saucelike", and "some form of topping". Unless you're explicitly asking for a None Pizza Left Beef, of course.
