I was there the week it opened, about 25 to 30 years ago! Not a stick of furniture in the house. The docent said they weren't really ready to open but the marker on the highway had gone up that week so they HAD to open! It was a beautiful place. My niece enjoyed meeting the horse in the side yard and I enjoyed wandering through the beautiful house and imagining life there.
I’m so glad I watched this video, thanks for making it😀My ancestors were in the first Germanna colony in 1714! Hans Jacob Holzclaw was a school master and one of the leaders of the colony. He became a successful plantation owner, his home that he built is now called Ashlawn or something like that. It’s now an equestrian center.
Where is the Equestrian Center? If you don't mind me asking..😊 And I'm pretty sure my Great Grandmother was a Holzclaw.😮 Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia. McDowell County, West Virginia.
Cant believe you can just walk in those buildings and explore without any supervision, pretty cool. Those manequins wouldve spooked me for a second, yet they are bit hilarious 😊
Very reminiscent of my gg’grandparent’s farmhouse & farm in Staffordsville (Giles County), Virginia (another early pioneer, Scots-Irish family of SW VA)
Yes, Alpaca … in fact VA Chris… I’m lying on both an Alpaca Blanket from Peru and an a Sheep Skin…and a Quilt I made…and a blanket I made…just all for cushioning beneath my sheet… my body needs the cushioning… on this hospital mattress… funny VA Chris… how we go back to the old ways taught us by our Elders…coming over through Ellis Island
The outhouses with crescent moon were used by women and the sun or star were used by men. I had to look it up because I didn't know. Love the video. Thanks.
What a great video, Chris!! I wished I could have grabbed the camera to hold still while I looked at stuff, lol. But I understand. COOL!! Im hope you were gone from the area before the Hurricane hit. I remember when they started putting this park together. I had forgotten all about it. Thank you! Also love the drone shots! Beautiful place.

Thank you for sharing. I grew up 10 minutes down the road from this.
Carpenters wheel is the pattern of the quilt.
Nice explore, Chris! The machine you saw at about 40:12 is what’s left of an old thrashing machine for wheat.
Thanks 👍
That wasn’t a plow in the small barn that was a manure spreader awesome place thanks for sharing and taking us along

The "Wilkum" sign is Pennsylvania Dutch. It does indeed mean "Welcome". My parents are from PA and we always had one of these signs by our front door.

Ahh ok thanks for looking that up!

Great video! Everything about it, interior and exterior shots says 'SW VA'. (Not WV, being the snobbish Virginian that I am 😂)
Yeah, we’re better than them. lol jk. Thanks!
Pickup a Garmin. They are still relevant. Cell service when traveling isnt a guarantee.
