The "policing"--or self-appointed "policing"--person provokes the "target.'" Then, the "policing" person claims to be the target of resistance, or even assault. With police, a peaceful encampment is quickly turned into a "mass resistance of arrest" event by the provocation of the police. Having college presidents play a role in this is despicable. This is also similar to the role of the "picadors" in Spanish bullfighting. Provoking a non-attacking bull to resist harassment and become "the attacker" or the "resistor" justifies their public defeat in the eyes of society. I don't read or subscribe to the NYT, but for years I've opposed those who criticize it for being "biased." It has been known to be legitimate media as opposed to alt-right media devoted to Republican propaganda. And when the NYT made a mistake, or published false stories, they would make a correction and fire those responsible, respectively, while alt-right media does not. It's really sad that things have changed with regard to reporting on Israel and Gaza. Apparently, the Israeli lobby has considerable influence over the editors and publisher of the NYT (and college presidents, too). So many don't see that the Netanyahu regime is part of the worldwide, far-right movement that elected authoritarians (Russia, Belarus, Hungary, India, Brazil, Philippines, Trump in the U.S. and possibly Brexiters in the U.K.) who stand for male dominance, are of the majority ethnicity, religion and straight, and want to put minorities, women and LGBTQ in their place.
I used to think the New York Times stood for honesty, reliability, consistency and can be counted on to always be impartial/unbiased. When they allow themselves to lose track of all they once stood for, and lie, they become no different from The Daily Mirror, Fox News, CNN, etc.

Similarly they put down rules that Palestinians can't be seen celebrating their own release in public, many of whom were arrested again anyway. What a sick society.
@@thomasjosullivan9179 yep LOL
@@RevSteveHermann Well the women I saw interviewed stated they were or are they liars because they said that?
Have you seen the rape of Palestinian prisoners? Caught on camera for the world to see.
Thank you for the truth
Thank you.
TNYT used to be useful to wrap fish, but in the digital version is not useful for that either... 😞
How true!
A million bird cages going without coverage…….
Bravo Deepa. We need your kind of journalism. Thank you to truth telling journalists.
Don't forget they got Pulitzer for this kind of 'work'. This is how 'professionalism' looks like nowadays.
The Pulitzer is the Nobel Peace Prize of journalism now it seems...
@@fundidoarrojo269 Yeah, the NYT has ignited a lot of 'peace' with their so-called peaceful work during the last 7 months. Gaza is drowning in their peace.
Disgusting isn't it?
Pullizer giving to a liar newspaper. At this point, nothing means anything anymore. What a shame!
Diplomacy will work as long as people of good will still exist. Thank goodness we are still free to speak.
So sick of the lies coming from the same people over and over again…
Their error was the assumption that NYT has ever been journalism,
Thank you for understanding what truth is about.
“Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in ancient Greek republics: Freedom for slave owners.”
― Vladimir Lenin
Not sure we should be looking to Lenin for a lesson on freedom
Why was someone with no journalistic experience allowed to write this?
excellent interview . Deepa Kumar blessings thanks for your insight .
It's finally nice to see a news outlet that likes to be thorough in its coverage, especially with a calm, cool, and collected professor such as Deepa Kumar.
Shame of NYT! Shame of Fox News!
SHAME, HASBRO, SHAME...LOLOLOLOLOLLLL!
How can an independent journalist support Gaza being turned into a slaughter house.
Utterly shocking & depraved!

Thank you for this conversation!
As a former journalist I am appalled and distressed by what has happened to the mainstream media since October.
Shocking I agree
I Think it has been going on longer than that. Just more noticeable now
She needs to be arrested for, Crimes Against Humanity, War Crimes, False Reporting and Promoting Genocide. That's the law!
This was a great segment. Thank you
And ppl repeat these lies especially ppl in gov. Its disgusting
There are absolute clear cut criteria that define the professional standards of practices and ethical cods of conduct that underpin professional journalism. I am glad that professors of journalism are FINALLY calling for investigation of what certainly seems a gross violation of these criteria not only by a) the Israeli women who wrote the false allegations of rape for her own personal gain, but also by b) the editors and owners of the various news outlets that published versions of the fabrications.
Integrity and Upholding the truth in a systematic and unbiased manner are core - these standards are essential and expected universal principles shared across professions. They prevent charlatans from doing harm.
Looking forward to an unbiased investigation followed by charges of professional malpractice by those involved. This constant brazen abuse of the truth must stop
Thanks for the clear headedness and the desire to follow through with showing the biases and dishonesty of the New York Times and other news outlets.
Bravo!
There also needs to be an investigation done into the enactment of the Hannibal Doctrine on October 7.
Excellent. We watch your program regularly and find those quite informative and truthful
Keep it up students
You are the future
It’s your right!
I am so pleased to, Finally, find someone for calling out what is going on in Gaza. NOT a war, a mass slaughter, a vile genocide.
Clear and concise information from the guest.
Thank You for this opportunity to have your support and the very important dialogue and discussion with Prof. Kumar and the wonderful Students for Supporting Palestinians 🇵🇸✊✌️✌️✌️
What is none are above the LAW when the BAR Association Judiciary Jural Society Police represent themselves as LAW? Doesn't that place us beneath?
Thank you for exposing the lies.
'Peaceful until the police show up'. Sums up decades of protest.
This interview highlights the beauty and depth of journalism through bringing to life to us a tactful grotesque one sided deep rooted ploy from the so called renowned New York Times. Thank you for the clarity and reminder Professor.
Thank God we have social media.
The professors should publish the letter. It will greatly help. Innocent People have died and are dying because of these depraved journalists.
Why do you think legalists refer to evidence rather than facts?
Because facts require evidence to substantiate them?
We need an in depth documentary of how journalism is used to disseminate war propaganda.
We are all Palestinians. Love from Canada.
you mean terriorists
This is unacceptable by the NYT and investigative journalism. Investigate investigate investigate. Screams without investigation kills journalism
I AM SO GLAD! there are intelligent people like them who question everything and once again show irrefutable proof of Israel's lies
The Greyzone investigated this and debunked it weeks ago!
SHE ADMITTED IT WAS FALSE
Respect to Deepa Kumar❤
THOSE ACCUSATIONS WERE PROVED LIES THOSE ACCUSATIONS WERE PROVED TO BE LIES
Thank you
Thank you for all the Journalism Profs that speaks up for the justice. Thank you for debunking the Israeli lies that have leads to terrible consequences to for innocent people.
Great Amy🎉keep speaking out the truth, you will never be defeated❤
Remember, the NYT won a Publicer Price for that.
Sick isn't it.
@@brendasmart553 Thats who Democracy dies, whit lout Cheers.
The whole system is a sham.
I used to think the New York Times stood for honesty, reliability, consistency and can be counted on to always be impartial/unbiased. When they allow themselves to lose track of all they once stood for, and lie, they become no different from The Daily Mirror, Fox News, CNN, etc.
Publishing lies means that The NYT consider its readers as easy to manipulate !
Thanks professor !
