Oh my G. I dented a rail on my SR Tech Europa. NOT CHEAP. I used a soldering iron, quality, and hovered over the dent. I OWE YOU! And it *is* my favourite mouthpiece. And I never did it before. I cannot feel the dent anymore. Wow. Just wow.
Yeah! Works great! Thank you Matt for sharing this repair-secret. I used a hot air soldering iron (for electronics), which is most safe because you can set temperature to just 200°C !
Very clever, Matt. I wonder about using a Vortex air torch and masking the neighboring areas with tape or foil? When I repadded my clarinet with an alcohol lamp I would put aluminum foil between the key I was working on and the horn. Kept the heat away from the wood, and I could press the pad down to seat it even with the foil in place. Pads set up and sealed nicely.
Good job my brother has an old mouthpiece the same as that one only it says G on it I am going to try that trick out on it before he comes back from his holidays and see if it plays better for him thanks Matt
siningwow that kind of goes against what I said several times in the video. If you don't know what you are doing, you will likely ruin it, and what you are describing sounds like a valuable mouthpiece.
BRAVO!!! made it look easy lol,, Hey i have a pen made out of ebonite hard rubber and the cap is broke in two but the crack has no space missing through the whole cap. Would you know how to connect the two pieces together again?
Hi matt, For most the easiest and least trouble prone would be a simple soldering pen. Lightly rub over dent while the tip is heating. Less risky than a torch and far less expensive than a torch like yours. Also, a 100 watt light bulb will produce similar results, after it's warmed up. Cheers, erik MouthpieceGuys.com
:-) well mouthpiece facing curve accuracy is measured in ten-thousandths of an inch, so any ding is not a good ding. However sometimes a small one will not be noticed by the player if it doesn't also create a bump (like the raised edges of a crater) or go all the way from edge to edge of the rail so as to impact reed seal.
I did this to my jody jazz accidentally, but the dents are smaller than those two and they are not where the reed seals. I still played a concert with it and it seemed fine.. would you know where I could sent it to have it fixed and how much?
Did a good job , I've been having challenges with my current mouthpiece , I'm watching this because I'm thinking about refacing it, I'm tired of having the reed close up when I play ..I'm thinking about refacing it , what do you think?
in my experience, no. those are less like the dents and dings shown above (where the material is still there, just moved by impact) and more like gouges.

GOD! I don't think I could even breathe while trying that Matt lol
Wow, that was brilliant, I have seen other repairs using epoxy, but that is far superior.

Holy smokes! Great Matt!!!
Good tip Matt. Been using the same technic for 40 years.

Woww,very nice work again!!👍
WTF!? That was like a magic trick. Well done.
I just used a candle to get the dents out of my mouthpiece. Worked beautifly thank you for the idea.

Ah see what you mean I would maybe mess it up so will leave it alone
wow man thanks a lot. now i need a little bit courage to apply it to my mouthpiece

I'd probably try thinning some epoxy out with heat and clamp it, but I am just guessing!

thanks for the tip!
Wowww and woooww he has 0 dislikes and that was AMAZING
Do you think those little dings affect playability?
little?!?
yes.
Matt Stohrer maybe I should’ve asked if little dings in general affect playability. Haha

This is sooo satisfying
What magic is this?!

Relax your embouchure and/or try a slightly stiffer reed first.
@@StohrerMusic thanks
Whoa! Blew my mind. I had no idea. Cool.
Matt, you're a genius. Moving back to NYC any time soon? Hahaha
Holy crap! Nicely done!
I have a otto link rubber mp with a bump in middle.
Any idea how to get rid of it?
The mp is not plane anymore a the reed wount attach to it
How would you polish a dull color mouthpiece?
What about teeth mark dents?
in my experience, no. those are less like the dents and dings shown above (where the material is still there, just moved by impact) and more like gouges.
I literally said "no f---ing way" out loud as the first dent just disappeared
Dude!
MojoBari I was actually wondering what you’d think of this 😂
very good
Masterful!
That's awesome!
Good as new!! :)
Do you work on mouthpiece?
MuMuCow8 nope! I'm mediocre at best. Those that are good at it do it full time.
The real life photoshop
WAUW!
🙀🙀🙀
Masterful!
