I’ve hunted with plotts for 45 years now. Have 8 in the yard now. Everet Weems breed way back. Caught lots of bear over the years.very loyal dogs. Soldiers.
@@professionaljihadi4052 not unless trained. With people they are very affectionate, and not in their nature to be physical even towards strangers. They will very much alert and act aggressive towards a stranger lingering outside their home. But if an intruder does come in, without training, they won’t likely attack.
Plott hounds are amazing dogs to own. Couple key things to happy ownership. They are usually a "pack" dog they will seem unsettled at home if they don't have another k-9 of comprable size strength and stamina. They are willful so you must demonstrate in a non aggressive manner that what you say and do is law. They will test your ability to be the alpha periodically through stubbornness as a behavior. This breed does not respond to aggressive owners who raise their voices or try to intimidate them. Remember it's very well documented that this breed is bred to track and hunt black bears that can weigh up to 300 lbs and boar weighing close to the same amount. They will not cower or submit to your aggression they will stand their ground. Their ability to retain episodic memories good and bad is very strong. They are highly intelligent you can test this simply by using simple commands and hand gestures when beginning training at home. It's creepy how quickly they comprehend what you're requesting them to do. That being said this breed will seek an abundance of love and affection from you their owner on a daily basis. They will protect and alertly guard the immediate area of wherever their master is. They are not dog or cat aggressive once properly introduced. This is an athletic dog with very powerful muscles. They require high quality proteins, omega 3s and omega 6s. This breed will win your heart over indefinately.
I'm calling BS on them not cowering to aggression, I caught a plott, black and tan and a mutt on one of my lambs in my barn, the plott cowered down fast, the black and tan hid, the mutt got behind the plott. All 3 stayed down until I let the plott and mutt go. They will cower and submit.
I have a Plott and she is absolutely amazing. When people ask what breed she is and I tell them they are like "um.... What?" Plott hounds are amazing dogs.
Got (I think), a pure plott. Found him in a shelter round Jax FL. He's docked so I imagine he had a family but got lost round 4 months. Best dog I ever experienced. Cool to see it's history.
I had a Plott Hound Named John J. Rambo. I purchased him from a strong litter in South Florida. After, spending his first year in the city. My wife now then fiancee and me moved to Prospect Hill, NC. It was like heaven for Rambo. I miss him every day.
I love my plott hound, he is so cool! i dont want any other breed of dog. He is soooo chill but can get very busy when time comes. I also love that they are not widely known.
I have a Plott/ Pyrenees. He looks like a plott with the dark and whitish brindle, with the size and smaller ears of the pyrenee. He is such a beauty and a smart boy. LOVE the Plott Hound.
I just rescued a puppy that came from North Carolina who was left in the floods and Hurricane . My friend said he looks like a Plott Hound . I looked up this video and I think she's right . My baby is 9 weeks old
I come from the the Johannes Plott line. I traced my line to the Elias Plott line that ended up around Troutman, NC. Love Plott hounds! I'd love to come by and meet some of my cousins once removed one day!
A man in eastern North Carolina has a Plott, best deer hunting hound I’ve ever seen , my brown beagle would strike , and he would chase the buck and never lose the scent saw a big buck jump in the river and swam 20 yards along the bank , and jumped back up on the swamp land, the dog jumped in the river and followed the scent on the water , and jumped up and was on the run , so exciting to watch that dog hunt, Gunneck,Nc 1997
Iv got two of them I hunt pigs with in Western Australia I love them to bits tough as nails smart and loyal great hounds very lucky to get them I wouldn't think anyone many or if any others would have this breed in WA
What a great dog and a great video!!! I especially loved it when she howled -- or "bayed" -- a couple of times!!! Funny! It was as if she was telling her master, "C'mon DAD!!! Let's go track some animal !!!!"
I found my plotthound in Waynesville Walmart parking lot...my roommate said they were giving them for free and the one that cant get rid off would take em to the shelter...rommy got the male...his name is Zuko and he is such a a sweet boy...I love him to pieces
I have a plot hound mix ( pit and bulldog mix) she looks 90% plott hound with extra wrinkles from her bulldog grandparents! Such a loving and loyal dog. She is a cuddle bug
Pretty sure my boyfriend’s family dog Blue is a pitbull Plott Hound mix. He’s older but so gentle. My cat loves to nap with him and he’s a cuddler. He has a hound dog bark & does tend to wander when left outside alone.
I had a Plott Hound a few years back. A wonderful dog. It's funny, on the certificate, it said the dog was a Bloodhound/Lab mix. Other people claimed it was a German Short Haired Pointer. It was driving me a little crazy, then, I think by happenstance, I came across some photos of that particular breed. That's what he was/is. Unfortunately, I had to find a home for him because I moved. I remember having to walk him twice a day at least a mile before he'd settle down. Needs space. Doesn't like being tied to a runner, I'll tell you that much. Oh yeah, don't overfeed them. They will eat until they get sick. Great with kids
My uncle found a old female stray brindle plot female came up too the farm. And gave her too my brother. We took her hunting with the world championship blue tick Abe. Along with multiple grand night champions. She kicked their asses. Racoon hunting. My father also hunted plot hounds. He had some great dogs. And believe you me that old plot hound saved my life a few times as a little boy. She stood in front of me and kept me safe from wild dogs cats and coon many of times. I will always say that was the best coon hunting dog I ever hunted with and. Anyone else that ever hunted with her will tell you the same. I promise you that. Lady was the best. But she always seem too have a grey puppy. Never understood that but she wasn't a purebred plot. But she was a hell of a coon hunting dog.

Hannah B .. I have a plott hound named Daisy. I live in NC and I haven’t met one person that knows what a plott hound is even though the breed originated in their own state.
This is a beautiful video. My dog is only 14% Plott, but I can see it in him. His body and his attraction to constantly sniffing paths told me he was some sort of hound. What a great dog!
I have a plott hound named Daisy. I live in NC and I haven’t met one person that knows what a plott hound is even though the breed originated in their own state.
Dogs are so unbelievably amazing. I have a vizsla lab mix.. which allegedly is a South Carolina hunting dog.. this is the closest video I could find but, still such a cool video. Very cool to see the lineage in human and canine after all these years.
I have a Plott/mix(shorter ears and larger snout). Other than that he looks and acts and barks like a Plott Hound. That curl of the tail....Love to breed him..
We have what we think is one of these but he is massive. Weighs 120+ and not much fat and he has a 40” chest gallops when he runs and doesn’t have the hound bark. An amazing dog but want to know what he is
after watching the video I believe we have a plott and not a mountain curr , redbone cross wonderful dog and loves to track rabbits being we have no bears in this part of Missouri.
Plotts are not loyal! Plott hunters lose a dog a year. They will stay on track. Not lose of track for miles. It's not a K9 for the weak of mind. Hero is always on ecollar. GPS. They do what they want!
I had a Plott Hound named Winston. He was the smartest dog I've ever seen. Had the most beautiful brindle pattern on his head, sides and hind quarters. Black back likely due to beagle somewhere in his heritage. I think for pets, female dogs and male cats are preferable. Winston definitely preferred females...he loved me, I was number one, but he loved human females. He should've been owned by a female! So I'd love to find a nice female Plott. After his death I decided, out of respect for him, to not just go out and get another dog. I'm ready for another one now.
I've read that all plott hounds come from 1 of 2 mother's that had given birth once the plotts arrived to n.c. I was wondering if anyone know how to find out a dogs specific lineage? I know that sounds silly probably. My bestie has a plott who she got from a shelter in western TN when he was just a pup. It's odd that a plott would make it that far west so we don't know exactly how he got there.
If someone could contact me so I can send a picture of her for confirmation??? Please. I really need to find out if she is this breed. She is a brindle with a small white chest patch. Black muzzle medium ears, a bit of a pointy nose ( not a pitty nose ) approximately 13 inch tail thin whip like tail. She is just changing teeth so she is about 4months old.
