Small doubt, correct me is I am wrong. I think there is redundancy infused in the large scale systems and deployment methods like AB testing and Canary deployment are followed for deploying updates and it is generally very easy and quick to roll back.

What you talking patch cannot launch directly in live system, definitely would have in other environment and sign off given.
2nd Microsoft doest have any backup plan, recovery plan. There cloud is quite capable of that.

Biggest lesson, never ever use any antivirus software ever in any environment be it home or office or corporate other than Norton or AVG or AVAST or KASPERSKY or Bitdefender or Zone Alarm or QUICK HEAL or ESET, no antivirus or security software can ever be better and stable in terms of either security or protection or stability compared to this antivirus softwares.
