It's wild how many new decks have been coming up lately in Premodern! Quite incredible how much a fixed format can evolve every single week, truly is the best format in Magic
Yeah it’s crazy, I thought I would have made all of the deck techs within a year or 2 but it’s been 3 years and there’s still more than I have time to make. I will get around to them eventually though
I played this back in standard and it was absolutely silly when skullclamp came out. I was able to fight off affinity as long as I had a grave pact on turn 4. I ran other cute win-more cards like artificial evolution which on would use on the rotlung to make it say "when a cleric dies, get a cleric" and then I'd use it with carrion feeder to get an absolute unit or with cabal archon to turn every swamp into 2 point life drain.
Love this new type of video! As a rogue deck lover, I've tried broccoli soup and the rw weenie. Couldnt get the rw weenie to work but broccoli soup is great. Its a bit of living life on the edge and gives u huge sense of accomplishment when u survive to tell the tale.
Thanks! By new type of video do you mean shorter more brief overviews or the topic of the decks being new up and coming decks ? I will try to make more similar stuff in the future if this is popular
@@IPlayMagic i love all your videos, but this one was refreshing. 1) it is very current in that it captures trending decks - great for anyone who didnt have the time to keep up with decklists. 2) it demonstrates that innovative and rogue decks can be rewarding in Premodern.
@@premodern_duels Ok thanks for the explanation, I will try to do similar videos in the future then. I used to do a monthly meta watch style video but as I didnt have time I stopped doing it. I probably could try to do that again.
My absolute favorite decks in the last months, Broccoli Soup and Galindo's Prison, are just amazing decks - I built similar ones too. Broccoli Soup is very fast, intuitive, and incredibly fun to play, while Contamination requires a lot of skill, and I'm still learning it, but the deck is just awesome. Clerics are also fantastic! I'm thrilled that black decks have revived recently in the format.
Yeah as that deck has a few names and is still very new I classified them together and went with the horror stompy name. I think as time progresses people will brew with them more and tune the builds. The broccoli versions really seem far too light on disruption for me at the moment, and I think thats why the mono black versions are doing better in events but I am sure there is a broccoli version waiting to explode onto the meta as rancor is such an improvement over power matrix (Even though I love matrix as a card). I think with the banning of land tax and downfall of parfait it just took some time for the meta to adjust
@@IPlayMagic You're right - the green-black version could use more disruption spells; however, the elephants, along with Skittering Skirge, allow for maintaining tempo. The deck probably still has some evolution ahead, and even now it's a very interesting build. I also like the mono-black version with Matrix (once went 3-1 at a local tournament), but Rancor has exceptionally good synergy with Drinker and I just love it a bit more ;)
@@zielonyzielaknew Yeah I was trying to fit those disruption cards into it, I don't see any reason why it can play those. I think Id favour a build much more similar to mono black but splashing for rancor and then playing call in the sideboard or over rager
IDK if I would call Phil Nguyen's Raging Glaciers deck ("big red") new, but having chatted with him a bit and played it last summer, I would most definitely say it is underrated. Being able to wipe the board continually, then ramp with Thawing Glaciers, and cast Urza's Rage is insanely fun. I worked with Robin Lundh in 2020 on developing his PM online monthly winning black zombie deck into a prototype black cleric zombie deck with PoG that summoned scion, and with braids and oath of ghouls, which he went on to use in the second PSS on Cloudgoat Ranger. The deck is very explosive, provided one has a dark ritual; our placing of Archon in the sideboard now seems quite an oversight. I think the biggest problem with clerics is that it is, quite simply, a very "fair" deck. With the right matchups, one can do fairly well, but there are others where it is wholly outmatched. I would be interested to hear what your matchups were, how you sideboarded, and what you found to be most key to making the deck function. edit: just saw you have cursed scroll in your list. That seems a wise given some of the problems I ran into the last time I ran Clerics in a tournament. I've talked to others who have said oversold cemetary just sits in their sideboards, thoughts? How did Bidding perform?
Yeah big red isnt new but it's new to a lot of people so thought I would include it here as it seems to be picking up recently. I played against Stasis, Beast Oath, lands, WW (he won the previous monthly with the same ww deck), Aluren, Mono black aggro, then lost to the same ww deck in top 16 after a mull to 4 or 5 (in two games I think, I remember it was something like that). I think clerics is borderline fair, but some decks cant beat turn 1 ritual in to ritual cleric, rotlung turn 2 duress supplicant or some other variation of that. The deck can be super explosive and disruptive.
I will get around to it eventually but I have quite a long list of stuff to make right now. I am forever shocked at how many awesome decks there are in this format to make videos about, I really thought I would have run out ages ago.
Yes I will and in some cases already have, it will just take me a while to upload them all. I have uploaded some clerics already, and I have made a bunch for contamination control and horror stompy I just need to edit them and upload them 👍
@@henrikpetersen7682 don’t worry it’s coming soon I just need to get the cards for it. There’s also a bunch of others that I have been asked for that I need to make though
No because it’s not being cast it’s being put into play. Mage only stops players from casting (playing) spells, which also includes alternative costs like madness, or daze returning and island for example. But won’t stop stuff being put into play for example via dark supplicant (scion) , oath of druids, show and tell, replenish , etc etc
I put decklists in the video and you can find deck lists on tcdecks in the rouge section (I think contamination may have moved to its own section, and mono black clerics are in both rouge and clerics) but I don't have any links sorry
aha I'm glad you like the videos at least, recently Ive noticed that premodern cards have started to go up in price and was quite surprised by it but I guess that happens when the format is awesome.
@@SSolemn watch my video about where to play premodern. Most people don’t have a local community and play in webcam events. There was actually a faerie deck that did quite well recently
@@SSolemn it’s in the rouge section of TC decks. I use the term faeries very loosely, it uses lots of small blue flyers including cloud of faeries to chip in damage and then uses lightning bolt and a red spell that lets you discard cards to buff all of your creatures so you can swing in for big damage
@@cartweel aha yeah they’re not exactly new anymore, but still mostly under the radar. Especially in this format where a lot of players are very unfamiliar with the cards even cards from top decks
Thanks, I can definitely see that my editing and general production of the videos has definitely improved from when I started but sometimes it’s a little unmotivating to see channels about other more mainstream topics or even about mtg commander get way bigger than my channel in half of the time 😂 I don’t make the videos for that reason but the positive comments really motivate me though
I know its fustrating but premodern is all about nostalgia, and that means that people play or are interested in it are over 35 years old that used to play magic and the truth is that there are not many of them left because life happened!! keep it up dont worry! sure youve put a lot of effort in this and its already great! btw make a video about mono black control (unban necro!!! what's the worst that could happen?????)
Wake up, coffee, new premodern IPM video. Perfect day.
Morning! Im happy to contribute to you having a good day! Thanks for the support

The Mono B Clerics is super tempting. Leading a cabal of creepy cultists is everything I want in life, and the deck has some incredibly clean lines.

Love videos like this. Some of my favorite Premodern games have been with rogue/jank decks. It is a great format to brew in. Keep these coming please!
