Good video overall. I do want to add to the Pestilence deck that it heavily relies on Guardian of the Guildpact to break the symmetry; it's a 4 mana 2/3 that has protection from mono-coloured, allowing it to both survive all the activations of pestilence and be a creature on board to keep the pestilence around.
As someone who just started building a pauper slivers deck I'll have you know there are now at least 3 of us! Love the video, I do plan on making enough pauper decks to lend to people so I can get the ball rolling locally and this video will help get some fun rogue inspiration aside from the decks I already knew about from the previous one
I feel like you did mono-green aggro (AKA Stompy) a real disservice in this video - it was once one of the absolute pillars of the format, and has a heap of interesting play to it. Otherwise great video, you did an awesome job showcasing decks that you won't play every game but are still genuine factors in the format!
Before Cleansing Wildfire was printed, I was playing Petals of Insight based arcane storm. Basically you build your own Lotus Field and play arcane spells splicing Psyhic Puppetry until your land can tap for 6 or 7 mana and then go infinite with Petals-Puppetry netting mana in the process, and then mill oponent with Stream of Thought. My LGS friends didn't want to play with me, so I switched to UR delver
I completely missed Tor-Ex when I was scrolling through and thought that my boy had somehow dipped completely out of the format. Remember to always watch to the end kids, that's where the best things happen.
Hey just so you know I built my friend a pauper slivers deck for the holidays so theres gotta be at least like 5 of the guys running around at this point
In high school I used to battle a kid who ran alpha to then 2005 slivers. It was unbeatable. We didn’t use pauper, so I don’t know it’s viability now too be honest (there were some other OP cards too), but it was brutal.
Damn, its been like 8 years since i brewed a torchured existance deck when no one else seemed to be playing it. Fun deck, nice to see no one else is still playing it lol
Fantastic thanks for the thorough follow up covering these niche but very exciting decks. I'd not come across the clerics deck before, so am going to be checking it out. Thanks!
Whoa, that first deck takes me back to my home brew modern deck that used Myr Retriever, Alter of the Brood, and Heartless Summoning to infinitely mill my opponent. I gotta play it.
An interesting tip about Inside Out is the fact that it can be cast and then you discard to give Tireless Tribe +X/+0 instead of +0/+X. According to rules, when switching power and toughness, effects that would affect a creature's power affect its toughness instead, and vice versa (an example being the card About Face, which specifies just that, but the Oracle text removes that explanation in its entirety, assuming it can be inherently understood when it clearly cannot).
great video! im learning as much as i can about pauper format and this helps greatly. i had a bunch of common cards left after selling my collection of rares. my first pauper deck was G/R land destruction using spined wurm as a beatstick. it was unpolished but it regularly beat non-pauper decks, and i was surprised (so were my opponents); i just tried to make the best deck i could using what cards i had left. since then ive been hooked. keep up the good work 👍
9 months later, Boros synth is 4% of the meta, and the synth/ichor wellspring synergy is in the best Mono-red Burn lists which take up like 15% or more of the meta (at least, they did pre-ban).
Cleric Footing actually would require you to stick the Foot enchantment on to a cleric with Vigilance so neither Daru Spiritualist nor Task Force are ideal for that. Alternatively you could use Inside Out.
Fun fact: Fully reading and understanding the cards is important before paying to play in a tournament with them, like _someone_* around here did. ... ... ... *(It was me).
i kinda wish it would link to the decklists directly, edit nvm iam dumb theres the moxfield link that links to all the lists while i looked for specific links.
That deck is so impossible to get right, at least for me. I only tried to do it mono black though. So crazy to use Spy, the one black card you can have unlimited copies of and of course Skirge Familiar!!!
Am I missing something with Cleric Footing? Neither Task Force nor Daru have vigilance. Would solid footing work in this case? Or would the creature need to be granted vigilance by another aura such as Sentinel’s Eyes??
Ok, so im looking for help for a list i made for pauper im calling "gruul heroic" You can probably guess the gameplan from the name; get down heroic triggers on creatures, target them with spells to make them big fast, beat face. Here's the list: Creatures: 4x satyr hopilite 3x setessan oathswarn 2x gnarlback rhino 3x monastary swiftspear Spells: 4x snakeskin veil 4x mutagenic growth 3x gaea's gift 3x temur battle rage 2x explosive entry 3x go for blood 4x witch's mark Enchantments: 3x snake umbra Lands: 7x forest 7x mountain 4x rugged highlands 4x racers' ring Sideboard: 4x red elemental blast 3x ram through 1x flaring pain 2x atraxa's fall 3x end the festivities 2x relic of progenitus Now this is my first pauper deck, and my question is what i should do to improve upon it. Ive been considering the following cards: Prey's vengance Ancestral anger Apostle's blessing Prize fight Im not sure what the best sideboard options are, what ratios of protection/creature/evasion/buff i should aim for, or what the most eficient spells are for those jobs, so any input is appreciated, thanks
You're basically describing a much worse version of Kiln Fiend. Any sort of "heroic" strategy is going to suffer from being blown out by removal and is inherently fragile. Mono White Heroic is already no longer a good deck. The next big problem is that there aren't good Heroic-esque creatures in Gruul aside from Satyr Hoplite, except for Kiln Fiend and its ilk which you are purposefully avoiding. So understand that, if you choose to go down this route, you are prioritizing a pet strategy over competitive viability.
@AmmiO2 worth it Edit: to clarify, I'd rather have fun making my own deck than play the same set of existing decks that are supposed to be meta. I do want to make this deck as good as I can, but I'd rather it be original than ultra competitive
@@mutantcube1737 No schedule. Probably not for a long time. Right now the only thing I'm planning is MTGO streams since I need to practice for Regional Championship Atlanta in December.
My boy Kiln Fiend!! Edit: oh and then Gary! Man these are all my decks haha Damn and i play white heroic and rakdos burn haha. You still didnt talk about dreadmaw stompy though hahaha
Ok, so your got most of the decks between the 2 videos, but your are still missing 1-3 from what I’ve seen. “Poison Storm”, Mono Black Burn, and Golgari Aristocrat Aggro Poison Storm, an archetype still in heavy development, it used the new ONE cards that give poison counters as well as cards that proliferate while drawing cards to stack poison whole drawing into more cards that give poison. And also runs fogs to stop damage. This decks also used Depletion lands, everflowing chalice and Pentad Prism to generate massive amounts of mana. Tends to be Dimir, Sultai or esper. Mono Black burn is a deck that used Cheaply costed black drain spells to burn out the opponent while also gaining life, since it’s life lost not damage it bypasses fog effects in pauper. Golgari Arisocrat aggro: uses free or cheaply coated cheaters to sac into playing large beaters early( bayou Groff, bone pickers) and also runs creatures that comeback after dying)
Haven’t heard of the others but MB burn was undefeated at my lgs a few weeks a go.. I mean there’s like 8-12 of us haha but still it was a sweet showing of a deck I had never heard of
when's the 0%ers video featuring decks like Fishelbrand, Soldiers, Zombies or even goblin storm or izzet bounce? xD Loved the continuation of this series
I've been brewing a mono black ramp Tortured Existence Madness deck, it's not easy to get it consistent, but when it works it works. I'm kinda worried about white infect though, someone will get some stuff banned prolly w that .
Omg you didn't do a deck overview of mono u delver. The mono u delver community takes this as a personal insult. Ok joking aside, the attention you are giving pauper is great. The format has quite a lot of depth. Seeing individual deep dives per deck like some of your other videos would be great too. The format's best feature historically has been that ability to brew. The reality is that a mediocre deck builder can design a pretty decent pauper deck so long as you stick within the general range of playables. Playing and brewing in pauper is an affordable experience with many skills which translate well into other formats. If someone wants to learn the kind of thinking required to get good a variety of strategies without breaking their bank account, pauper is fantastic place to do it.
I misspoke and didn't catch it before uploading. My bad. What I should have said was that you can use Deadly Dispute / Reckoner's Bargain to sac artifacts.
Hey AmmiO2, weird place to say this but it looks like three irrelevant videos somehow made it into your “all the decks in Legacy” playlist? Just thought you’d want to know so you could fix it if necessary.
My mono black Midrange deck is extremely good , you should try it out. The name is "Fight Like Hell" on Moxfield. Seriously it is top teir, I've yet to test it against a deck it doesn't beat. Although, Orzhov Initiative was close.
Ug evolve, BW tap to win, first-sphere gargantua version on rakdos, mardu tethmos combo, mono blue aggro, simic deathtouch with faeries and longbow, storm, dragon's approach dredge, two land spy, mono red crack the earth LD, golgari raven's crime, and many many other decks, waiting to find its spot. I just think the format needs more bans, lower the power level. We are satisfied with bad diversity of deck, should be possible to play many other decks most people don't even know
The absolute amount of snark in this video is amazing. All 3 pauper players and 2 of them are playing slivers. 😂
“I guess I’ll have to make it up to all 3 of you guys” 😂 that was great

Zubera storm? 😂😂😂
I once made a 5-Color Zubera Storm deck for Pauper

Cool decks. I wish most of them were more viable in this current Affinity + RDW meta.
Am I missing something with Cleric Footing? Neither Task Force nor Daru have vigilance. Would solid footing work in this case? Or would the creature need to be granted vigilance by another aura such as Sentinel’s Eyes??
You either need to give them vigilance or you need another creature (a cleric) with vigilance. It's a 3-4 card combo.
still no turbo fog mill and Turbo control
Ok, so im looking for help for a list i made for pauper im calling "gruul heroic"
You can probably guess the gameplan from the name; get down heroic triggers on creatures, target them with spells to make them big fast, beat face.
Here's the list:
Creatures:
4x satyr hopilite
3x setessan oathswarn
2x gnarlback rhino
3x monastary swiftspear
Spells:
4x snakeskin veil
4x mutagenic growth
3x gaea's gift
3x temur battle rage
2x explosive entry
3x go for blood
4x witch's mark
Enchantments:
3x snake umbra
Lands:
7x forest
7x mountain
4x rugged highlands
4x racers' ring
Sideboard:
4x red elemental blast
3x ram through
1x flaring pain
2x atraxa's fall
3x end the festivities
2x relic of progenitus
Now this is my first pauper deck, and my question is what i should do to improve upon it. Ive been considering the following cards:
Prey's vengance
Ancestral anger
Apostle's blessing
Prize fight
Im not sure what the best sideboard options are, what ratios of protection/creature/evasion/buff i should aim for, or what the most eficient spells are for those jobs, so any input is appreciated, thanks
