  • The Spanish Bowline was described by Clifford Ashley (ABOK # 1087, p 197) for use as a rescue tool. The two loops could be placed onto someone's legs and a conscious individual could hold the standing end and be raised up. Someone who has lost consciousness could still be affixed by using a secondary hitch to fasten the person's upper body to the standing end. One benefit of this knot is that its loops can feed slack into one another, making it perfect for fastening two objects of different size.
I mistakenly refer to this knot as the Portuguese Bowline toward the end, but it's the Spanish Bowline!

Thanks for the demonstration. It looks easy when you do it. I'm sure it won't be so simple for me.

I'm so glad you found it to be helpful! If it's any reassurance, for knots like this which I don't regularly use, I have to train myself to tie it effortlessly for each video. I spend a lot of time around rope, though. So , I might have a proverbial leg up on you! Just know that you can do it! Just take it step by step!

Voila! Here is a demonstration of the ALAMAR knot! It might be a bit grainy right now because TH-cam is processing it into HD, so check it in about an hour and it will look nice and clear! I was meaning to add some more decorative knots, so thanks for the idea!
