Nature and Life - Episode 265 (Eagles of Bangladesh)

Various species of birds are found in Bangladesh.
The open fields, water bodies, forests remain enchanted with the presence of the birds.
Various species of birds of various sizes are found in our country.
The Eagles are one of the larger birds.
These are large sized raptor birds.
The eyesight of the Eagle is very sharp and wings are large and powerful.
So, they can look for their prey flying in high altitude.
Their beaks and legs are strong.
Their claws are sharp and curved.
Such body structure has made the Eagles skilled predators.
About 15 species of Eagles are found in Bangladesh.
Among those, the Crested Serpent Eagle, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Booted Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle are noteworthy.
The Crested Serpent Eagle is found almost everywhere in Bangladesh.
Their body is dark brown in color.
White spots are spread throughout the body.
The beak and the eyes are yellow.
They are seen at different ends of the country.
They wait for their prey sitting on the tree branch at the forest edge.
They wait for a long time to catch their prey.
They are often called as snake eating Eagle as snake is one of their main food items.
One of the globally endangered birds, the Pallas’s Fish Eagle is also found in Bangladesh.
They are critically endangered in Bangladesh.
They are usually seen roaming in the haors, beels or open water bodies.
They are also locally known as Koral or Kura.
This deep brown colored large bird has white band on its tail.
They are diurnal.
If terrified they call loudly for self-defense.
They generally fly over the water body looking for their prey.
Sometimes they wait for their prey sitting on the large tree beside the water body.
They are efficient fish hunter.
They swiftly catch their prey and take it to the tree to feed.
In addition to fish, they also feed on small birds, snakes, and frogs.
The White-bellied Sea Eagle is also a large bird.
The abdomen, head and tail of this grey colored bird is white.
They are seen roaming in the coastal forest in our country.
They can be seen roaming alone or in pair.
Snake, fish, crab, rodents and other small mammals and also the birds are in their food menu.
The Grey-headed Fish eagle is found mainly in the Sundarbans and other coastal forests.
They are large and grayish brown colored predator birds.
They are expert fish hunter.
So, they spend most of the time on the larger trees beside the water bodies.
The Changeable Hawk Eagle is another Eagle found in Bangladesh.
They are found on the trees beside the rivers and canals in the Sundarbans.
The color of this blackish brown bird changes to light brown sometimes.
They forage for their prey sitting on the trees and also during flight.
The Eagles have vital role in the nature.
The Eagles control the rodent population naturally by feeding on those and help the farmers indirectly by saving their crops.
For being carnivorous, they control other animal population by feeding on those.
They keep the water bodies healthy by feeding on weak and sick fishes.
Overall they have role in maintaining the equilibrium of the nature.
But these birds are now facing various threats.
Their roaming and breeding both are disturbed due to arbitrary tree felling.
Besides, their population is decreasing due to lack of food.
There is no alternative of saving the forests and wetlands to conserve these birds.
These birds will survive if safe habitats and enough food are ensured.
Their presence will enliven the nature.

​@@NoName-yp9kcভাই, ঈগল পাখি আপনি পালন করবেন সেটা বুঝলাম, কিন্তুক আরেকটা জিনিষ জানা উচিত। এইসব পাখি খুবই ইনডেনজার্ড, মানে বাংলাদেশে তেমন ঈগল পাখি দেখা যায় না। আপনি দইয়া করে, ঈগল টিকে সুস্থ রাখে এবং সে বড় হলে তাকে ছেড়ে দিয়েন। আপনি তাকে পালন করেন যেন তাকে ছাড়লে সে আপনার কাছে ফিরে আসতে পারবে কিছুক্ষণ পর পর। কিন্তুক এরকম ঈগল পাখি বাংলাদেশের ecosytem এর জন্য খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
