@@Sunburnedhalo prioritizing "natural" sugar is not a good mindset. Bricky is thinking about glucose here, which is find in pastas, bread, etc... Those aren't going to cause you problem. Saccharose, however, will. It's also the sugar you find in sugar cubes, candy, sodas and sometime fruits.
Fruits in particular have relativly high amount of non-glucose sugars. They aren't on the level of a coca cola can, but it's still there.
An apple is fine, it doesn't have a lot of saccharose, mostly fructose which you should still watch out for but isn't as big of a deal. But anyway, don't mistake between sugars, or you will ruin your diet.
@@Sir_Bucket Why is saccharose worse? I thought it gets decomposed into glucose and fructose by enzymes in saliva (and the stomach acids).
Edit: from some quick research, it doesn't matter much. Saccharose gets broken into glucose and fructose. Fructose gets processed into glucose as well.
From my personal experience, I gained a lot of weight when I tried to cut out candy, sodas, etc. To get the sugar my brain needed, I started eating a lot more grains. When I finally started using a calorie tracker app, i realized how stupid that was.
I don't believe articles/recommendations about diet anymore, they usually make so many assumptions that they're useless to anyone other that the imaginary "average person". Not to mention that half the advice out there are myths with no base in science.
Just install a calorie tracker app and put everything you eat/drink there. You'll have a much better idea about what's "ruining your diet" at one glance than after a week of reading different advice.
@@sebastianjezierski8450 Yes saccharose is absorbed as glucose like any sugar, but saccharose will be broken down very quickly and goes straight into your blood stream and subsequently into your grease reserves. On top of that, it can cause a lot of side effects: sugar rush, addiction (even at small doses), dehydratation (the same way salt can), ruptured blood vessels (that last one will not happen unless you're diabetic), etc... . I recommend the documentary "that sugar film" which I remember being quite decent.
Of course internet articles will almost always give you shifty advices, and calories tracker are nice but do not make a balanced diet, so here's the basic:
Diversify your diet, eat lots of fibers, avoid refined sugar, and try to avoid meat if you're not doing sport or bulking, but the key word here is try: Meat will not kill you, its fat is just easier to absorb and stock for us. Keep your calories tracker on top of that and that's it.
@@Sir_Bucket Why does saccharose get absorbed quicker than glucose if it needs to be broken down to glucose first? Does it matter how readily different foods are converted to fat if I keep my calorie balance neutral?
It's anegdotal evindence, but avoiding refined sugar gave me extra 10kg.
Eating everyything I wanted, only adjusting the amount to fit calorie/nutirent goals, I lost 20kg.
Tha calorie tracker apps keep track of nutrients as well.

Bricky I have the solution to your problem:
Make a batch of them weekly.
Make caramel (melt sugar with a little bit of water until it becomes golden, add butter, salt or cream by preference (usually butter and cream makes it softer and less crunchy as well)), dip apples in the caramel and let solidify in the fridge.
That way you can limit your weekly input of these golden deliciousnesses® and have them ready whenever you want.
The problem is that he is lazy. Doing all of that, is more work than buying them

I honestly understand completely. There used to be a Rocky mountain chocolate company store in the local mall where im at, and i went hard on those apples as well. They closed awhile ago and never reopened anywhere in town. Miss them dearly, especially during the fall.
I used to work at a rocky mountain chocolate factory in north california. I physically cringed when you mentioned the caramel apples because i used to make them, everyday i would go home with blisters on my fingers and raw skin from twirling those stupid sticks for hours

You can make caramel by heating one pound of sugar in a dry (deep) pan until it's golden, then slowly whisking in one pint of hot cream (it bubbles up a lot). Cook it back up to 240F (soft ball stage) and then you can make your own caramel apples, or just boil it for a few seconds and dip slices in.
