Some reasons to take tier 3 teams even if they don't get bonus TV/skills/stars:
1. Because they're fun. That was, after all, your first reason to pick a team.
2. Stunty Cup. A lot of tournaments have an award for the top-placed Stunty team. Eucalyptus Bowl, for example, has second prize pick going to the Stunty Cup winner. I think they also have some TV bonus going on as well, but even without it the award is going to incentivise some coaches.
3. Coaches trying to play all teams. There are several coaches going for or having already achieved this goal. I'm going to be playing my last one of the new teams next month (after being I think the 43rd in the world to get all 24 at that time). I would have done it earlier, but the pandemic really limited my tournament options.
4. Casualty counts. Ogres can do pretty well on the casualty tally. They might not be winning, but in a tournament which incentivises casualties (award for most Cas, bonus points for Cas, etc.) they can be tempting.
Great summary Ben. I’d add - try to remember to pack a good attitude regardless of how the event pans out.
No matter how good your prep remember that sometimes it won’t go your way and that doesn’t make you a bad player. Equally so for your opponent.
Those 2+ with a rerolls can still fail at the most unfortunate times so keeping a good attitude regardless will ensure you enjoy the event.

I would also add that any tournament specific special rules. I see alot that have different weather tables and such that making rushing and agility shenanigans more risky.
Hey, had a look through the Theory Thursdays in hope to find a vid where you may have touched on an insane subject - Hail Mary Pass, but could only finding 'generic' passing being covered. I have a game on Friday, against a nobility player who certainly can control the pitch with Fends, Stand Firms and Wrestles as standard without factoring in the Block/Dodge mixers in the team, I i thought a real 'game changer potential' is (with a skink with HMP which I would happily name igu-hooner; i know, i know, it'll be a 5+ roll to get a scatter at best) launching it far overhead in the opposite side of the field as a last ditch move in hope i have a skinky boi waiting with a turn to grab and go and wondered exactly how much of a ratio of guts to glory to facepalm this could be - fancy looking at this at some point for entertainment value at the very least?
We're doing 1.5mil mini Dungeonbowl tournament (8 team, 7 game knockout system like yours) which breaks down as 1.15mil for the roster, 3RR, Wizard & 5 Primary Skills
One issue I don't recall raised but may have been distracted .. Highlander rule. If unique Star Players only .. is it worth taking the obvious Star Players? (*coughHakflemcough*)
I would also add to the beginning.. do you fancy painting up a new team for the tournament? If so, what?
Yea Highlander rule is Rough. But the good news it hurts your opponent just as or more. Depends on the Team you bring.
I was scuppered when I found at a tournament that low cost linemen didn't count. They are definitely a league team lol
MOSt Tournament do Not allow LOW COST LINEMEN. I think the team that have that should get a Free Bribe.
