Might wanna check out them tiny sailboats under 18feet, they can make decent little speed boats too, I got a 15 albacore and it's a sweet little boat and can hold a pile of weight, I gotta dedicate some time and materials to it though, as it had a rou5spring last spring
this was a great video. been looking at FBMP for a v bottom with trailer for a while now. i see a lot over on the eastern shore or Baltimore or area. a little far but i might have to just consider going over the bridge to find something. years ago i had a 12 or 14 foot jon boat and trailer with 4 horse motor. i ran it in the Patuxent when you got to open water and it was windy, it was a rough ride. thanks for the segment, it helped me decide that i dont want a flat bottom again but a v or semi v.
My second boat is a 12 x36 jon boat. I can handle 2 ' chop. I use it around costal area of the bid band area fl. I am looking to upgrade to a 24 or16 with it being 52 " wide and a tunal hull.
Jon boats have flat bottoms. And they are amazing boats, my 10ft flat bottom aluminum jon boat will go literally anywhere. I can take it on bigger lakes if they aren’t overly rough but it can go places the bigger boats and v hulls just can’t due to running depth
My 14 ft flat bottom has its place and time. It's really nice when the backwater creeks flood and the bite is really good. It's nice for running catfish lines on the smaller rivers around here and getting into small creeks but on the lakes I don't venture too far from the ramp
The bottom is mostly flat. Rounded at best. Slightly V shaped in front. It's a darn Jon boat. Or close enough to one. My 12ft Lone Star aluminum utility boat sits as low in the water as any Jon as well.
I liked it, but last summer it kept giving me trouble and I haven't gotten it sorted out yet. The biggest challenge with this one is that it has no "neutral" so it is always in gear when you start it.
No. Not a Jon boat. Those are called row boats or pond boats around here. Jon boat is for shallow water small ponds or marshes that are essential protected waterways.
The small boats with a V bow or Prow is actually the term for a V Bow on a small water craft. So technically they are called Prows. But there hull design is called a Modified V Hull where the hull starts with a V then flattens out to a flat bottom boat, so some people will call them Modified Jon Boats. If however the boat has a V Shaped hull throughout it's length, then it is a V Bottom Boat ! Take a Boat design course as I have and you'll get your head filled with all kinds of this useless information!

I don't know why. But I only call flat bottoms jon boats. I refer to the deep V's as just an aluminum boat.
Same here but the deep V, I refer to it as a V Bottom boat.
Vhull baby
Same here flat bottom is a Jonboat..I call a v hull a rowboat...and a flat bottom with v front I call a semi V
I agree with Sears.
Now we should probably talk about defining "creek".
John boats are flat on bottom. Utility boats have the V front.
Regardless its not usable until it has a cooler with ice in it.also some kind of radio.
Yes it is!! Same 12ft vhull since 1996 powered by a evinrude 2hp 1985 model! Gets the job done
I agree with you they sit a bit low in the water but can sure be allot of fun
Great info Wayne! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Ain't hardly nothing better than a good ole 14' aluminum boat. Makes life just a little bit better.
And there’s plenty around!

Thank you for this video. As a non American guy, I was a bit confused about Jon boats, bass boats and so on. I learned something tonight ;-)
So glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah they're great for small creeks and marshy areas!
Boat on the beach , I would call a Shallow-V !!!
Me personally, I love those little aluminum boats because they just glide in the water and they’re pretty light
True! And old ones are sometimes pretty cheap too!
@@WayneTheBoatGuyyeah
I have a 1962 Ward sea king 12 foot aluminum V hall. It’s powered by a 1962 Evinrude 10hp 2 stroke.
Classic!
Damn!! I’ve got an 87 gamefisher 14 ft aluminum v with an 85 Johnson 9.9. I thought mine was old!
@@luckyberry8250 Yea, she is an oldie but a goodie. This was back before boats were issued hull identification numbers.
As kids we lost a motor off of the boat definitely good idea to add a tether
What do you think about the Veer skiff ?
I would love to try one out sometime and directly compare it to an aluminum boat but I haven't been able to work that out yet.

Vee bottom boats are not Jon Boats.
Hi, love your channel. Off topic but how do you like your mercury?
I liked it, but last summer it kept giving me trouble and I haven't gotten it sorted out yet.

Thanks, I’ve had few Jon’s , but I just bought a 14 foot Lund. Going to be great in Puget Sound
I've got a 14' v bottom,it is not a jon boat. Living close to the Mississippi river there are a lot of flat bottoms around. Good video.
Good boat and thank you!
Man. Jon Boats are flat bottom and flat across the front !
Some of the larger Jon Boats like the Trackers, have a slightly pointed bow
Do your UK friends spell it aluminum or aluminium?
Aluminium
I defined a flat bottom boat as a Jon Boat
I call v shaped boats vhulls and flat ones Jon boats
That's a skiff
Haha no way I just started fixing up one of those sears semi-v hull boat
That’s awesome!
we call them row boats where i live
It is interesting that all of the small boats still come with the mounts for oar holders!
No. Not a Jon boat. Those are called row boats or pond boats around here. Jon boat is for shallow water small ponds or marshes that are essential protected waterways.
Thats an aluminum v hull boat
absolutely not a jon boat, all the facebook marketplace adds in MD that call those jon boats drive me nuts.
No
It is not acceptable only flat bottom boats are jon boats
My pointy nose boat is flat bottomed. Slightly curved at the very front. It's a Jon boat.

I have never heard the term "prow" - thanks for sharing!
