  • Footage taken of a derelict Pontins Holiday camp in Brixham, Devon. The Dolphin camp was a fully catered site, and there were other Pontins camps nearby that were self catered. Sadly, a fire destroyed the complex in 1991 and was never rebuilt. The site was left to nature (and vandals) and this cottage was taken in 2004 shortly before the site was cleared and houses built on the site. (now St. Mary's Hill and St. Mary's Drive) Some comments about location etc are in the subtitles (there's no sound so to speak) If I manage to find the better resolution version, I'll upload that.

So many happy memories from my childhood here. The little helterskelter in the first few seconds, i remember jumping off the top of that as a lad. Such a great place. RIP Dolphin and my childhood! I hope the cliff path to the beach is still there.

Our family stayed at St. Mary's Bay several times in the 70's (the self-catering chalets on top of the cliff), there wasn't much in the way of other facilities there, you walked down a path to the Dolphin camp for the main entertainments - there was a bar halfway down, with a separate side for kids (no beer taps, only some games machines), you could get soft drinks at the 'bar', but at 13/14 my dad got the barman to make me a proper shandy and bring it round to our side! Some great memories from those holidays, winning rosettes at the donkey derby and a prize in the sandcastle competition!

It was the games room, not the ballroom or dining room. The ballroom was completely destroyed in the fire along with most of the restaurant. I think there was the remains of the ballroom stage at one point :)
