    Nice interview with Aruna , interviews with none Asian players are more insightful and informative, unless we don’t get the full response in the translation. Great power from Aruna in the match.

    Great tactics by Aruna. Varying the depths of the serves by short and long to confuse Harimoto. Then hitting the topspin loops and attacks right into his body and open side. Harimoto doesn't have good footwork and he is weaker on his forehand side. This is how you play against a punch blocker by making him generate his own power rather than using your own. Also making him move from side to side so he is not comfortable at his strength.
    I am expecting another great showdown next with Aruna against Hugo in the quarterfinals. It would be wonderful!

      Harimoto should have played much more agressive on Aruna's serve...he gives him to much time..but credit to Aruna!!

    • @teddanville6996
      @teddanville6996 ปีที่แล้ว

      wrong and wrong. Harimoto does have good foot work and he is not weak on the forehand side. You can re-watch Harimoto vs Fan Zhendong at WTTTC 2022. Harimoto strength is on counter attacking, that part you got correct, so what Aruna did was attacking Harimoto with so much power that he can't counter attack, unlike many other players, even Fan Zhendong, attacking with not enough power. Also, you cannot just let Harimoto attack either, Harimoto is a very good attacker, he has very good technique on both forehand and backhand and he will beat you if you just let him attack. Aruna was a bit lucky that Harimoto attack poorly in this match.

      @@teddanville6996no aruna wasnt lucky harimoto FH sucks and he was afraid blocking like he s on fear.
      Hari blocking BH from the right side? Just fear

    • @canicetang8837
      @canicetang8837 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@teddanville6996 Then how come Harimoto hits backhand on his forehand side often?
      As a chop and punch blocker, Harimoto is effective in taking time off from his opponents by playing close to the table and hits the ball flat.
      But he stills crowds the table and refused to take a half or full step back to generate his loop engagement. Often he is hampered when you hit into his body so he is stuck. Or he can't recover when you hit the wide side.
      Aruna's tactic is perfect. Although I would hit on the wide angle short side to make him move more.
      That's the difference between him and the PRC players who are better in footwork and get around those problems by reading the game and pivot their footwork.

    harimoto is not attacking enough mostly negative defensive blocking close to the table. He might do well to go back and counterloop and try to get in first himself.

  • @onthihocky5666
    @onthihocky5666 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It can be seen that Harimoto was quite stubborn to rely too much on his backhand. Probably he is still not very confident in his forehand. Aruna attacked every serve coming from Harimoto with his forehand the whole game. But Harimoto kept serving to that side of the table instead of serving shot to Aruna's forehand to move him around first. Another problem with Harimoto is his meek character, which tends to make him become passive when the opponents show provoking gestures.

      That is harimotos style, he plays with much more control and tries to screw with the opponents rythm, forcing out unforced errors from the opponent.

    Thanks for the video coach. How ever, as you are a TT coach in a French club, I would have liked to see the same kind of video with the win of Felix Lebrun on Lin Yun Ju. Any chance?

    • @david0ade
      @david0ade ปีที่แล้ว

      Lin Yun-Ju has been figured out by many players, he’s too predictable now, I don’t think he can even beat Harimoto

    Most likely must do heavy spin high arch loops that would make difficulty for defensive blocker to push. Only blocking to return with that Aruna would continue with the same attack at random corners. Harrimoto is not strong on countering attack from the distance. Thus he preffers to play blocking inside. But with high arch heavy spin loops forcing blocker to move back. That eventually opens the defensive space for loopers.

    Just my opinion but I don't see much improvements from Tomokazu in the last years...

    Harimoto made mistake when serving long and floating ball in same direction, (Aruna jumping aside n use fh attack). Easy to read. That is the threshold of the match

  • @lala-th9vm
    @lala-th9vm ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Harimoto is likely to pingpong for screaming , not for winning. Aruna made cool down his always-noisy whining baby sound.

  • @leepinsoo7860
    @leepinsoo7860 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Harimoto is very much a one dimensional player. Dependent on his outright aggression, fast attacks and screaming to intimidate his opponents. Flat hits n speed rather than spinny balls. Mizutani, in comparison is a complete player. Versatile n graceful style, with strong attacking n defensive skills. Hardly known to lose to lower ranked players and consistently in topmost tier in decades of play. Harimoto's style in contrast, is mechanical and robotic, minus the grace n fluidity of Mizutani. Frequently lost to lower ranked n unlikely opponents. Sadly, will be remembered for his 😱 SCREAMS, rather than his skills. 😉..

    I have a question. I’m sorry that it doesn’t have anything to do with the match but I’m looking for a forehand rubber. I am a defence player with long pips on backhand and I am looking for an inverted rubber that I can defend with on the forehand. I’ve looked at some but I feel stuck because this is pretty new to me. Do you have any suggestions on rubbers? Something I can defend with and counter attack with. Any suggestions?

    Aruna wins (sometimes) due to his lack of polished technique and the speed he imparts to the ball. He is also late for many balls, he is not able to anticipate the plays but he makes up for it with his physical capacity, which is not eternal. Now will come his physical decline. He has already reached his limit.
