This is a good introduction to weighted blankets. I started using a weighted blanket a few months ago and wish I had done so many years earlier. The benefits to the quality of my sleep were immediate and significant. By the way, Dr Allison's comment about heavier not necessarily being better is true. I experimented with a heavier blanket and it didn't improve the positive effects, it just made me feel a bit cramped. If you have issues with sleep then it doesn't cost much to find out if a weighted blanket will help you. Check Amazon for very affordable options.

I have adhd, anxiety, and have always had trouble falling and even staying asleep. I just got a weighted blanket on saturday. After opening it I went and sat down in the living room to watch tv with my mom and nephew. My mom noticed right away that I was more calmed and wasn't as hyper as I normally am. That night I went to sleep with it and woke up so much more refreshed than I have been. I was able to fall asleep and stay asleep better. Yesterday my mom used it to take a nap, and she liked it. Now she is trying it as she sleeps. If she likes it then I will get her one of her own.

    Occupational Therapist here.
It is kinda weird hearing this from a psychologist saying about few research about weighted Blankets saying it is all Annecdotal without properly mentioning OT or Sensory Integration or even People with Autism with there Restrictive Repetitive Behaviors. It is because All research are conducted regarding this is in our scope of practice Occupational Therapy. Basis for Weighted Blanket is less Psychological but is more of Sensory Processing where Psychologist don't really look into (and look down upon sadly). It is not really on what disorder the person has or percentage of weight you need but rather the response of integrating back sensations to be able to perform Occupations (or Activities in layman's Terms) to functionality.

My partner brought me a weighted blanket for my severe anxiety and other mental issues and it's the best thing he has ever got me. My sleep quality is so much deeper and feel instantly safer under it, it doesn't take my anxiety away but it allows me to sleep relatively like a normal person and gives me a mood boost in the morning when I feel more refreshed. I love mine to bits.

I love my weighted blanket. Works better than any pill I've used. Thank God I found it. Wish I would have gotten one when I was young. When I'm having an anxious meltdown or depressive episode my blanket helps. Makes me wanna cry honestly it helps so much. I'm 30 and could have used this when I was 6

I love my weighted blanket!! i definitely sleep better, i haven’t noticed a change in my anxiety or stress at all unfortunately but it is such a comforting blanket and I agree with you on the lower weight point - sometimes I wake up and if it’s tangled in my other blankets it’ll feel uneven and too heavy. It’s helped my back and neck pain that I get from sleeping on an old mattress though and for that it’s completely worth it. It’s so comforting, I sleep with it when i’m sleeping without my boyfriend because it feels as calming as having him cuddle me while falling asleep. My mom got one for herself and for my brother and they loved them so much that she got one for me and my sister for christmas. best present ever

I have had severe insomnia and headaches since I was 18. now I am 41 and last year my wife at a desperation decided to buy a weighted blanket. I didn't think it was going to work so whenever I started first using it that was my thought was non-belief. Now I can say honestly that that silly blanket has changed my life I've never slept anywhere this good in my entire life. Migraines have gone away seizures gone away and I don't really know how to explain it but it's still the truth

There was a study conducted by Gringras et al. about using weighted blankets for children with autism. They concluded that there was no objective evidence that it improves sleep quality nor length. However, both parents and children favored the use of weighted blanket. So, like you said it was subjective. What do you think of this study?

That's literally what it is though. Weighted blankets are designed to calm so calling them calming blankets isn't 'wrong'.
She did say at the start that 'calming blankets' sent her one to review so of course she name dropped.
There is science behind weighted blankets, they are prescribed to people with autism, ADHD, anxiety and sleeping issues.
Typically people with these conditions seek deep sensory feedback that these blankets can give.
They of course aren't going to work for everyone and absolutely need more research but as someone who has seen them work for autistic children who seek that kind of stimulation or simply anxious adults who find it calming to use whilst sitting on the couch watching a movie, I'll definitely recommend them

I'm thinking about getting a weighted blanket for my anxiety, but I'm also want to know some of your tricks you mentioned in the video. I've suffered from anxiety for about 15 years now and the last 10 I've had it so bad I can't get out of my house. I can leave my house but I suffer from driving anxiety which means I can't go anywhere.

I bought a “My Calm Blanket” last year and I just didn’t like it. I sent it back and inspite of numerous e mails, certified letter and a UPS notification of delivery to them regarding my refund, I HAVE NEVER RECIEVED MY REFUND. I give this company a THUMBS DOWN rating.

Okay I'm sorry but.. You say "there is no kickback code or gimmick here" then right after mention the code to use haha.. I feel like your getting SOMETHING for people using that code?
Regardless though... Good review I guess.. I ordered another blanket from Aviano a week ago enviously waiting for it! I hope it lives up to the hype.

    • @DrAllisonAnswers
      @DrAllisonAnswers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Lol, so skeptical! I promise, I don't get a single thing from that code! As I shared in the video, they sent me the blanket for free, in exchange for my review, and gave me a code to share with viewers. That's it! I imagine they use the code as a way to track whether or not these partnerships are effective for them, but I don't have a clue how many people even used the code! :)
Glad you enjoyed the video though, and I'm pumped for you to try the blanket you ordered. I hope you love it and that it lives up to the hype!
      Thanks for watching!

My sister gave me a weighted blanket. It is sooo heavy. I can barely lift it. I could not hold the box as Dr Allison seems to do. I am quite strong male. I have had it lying over my feet. I would be very uncomfortable to have over my chest. I am confused.

How do u use it during sleeping in the night. Do you put in on your standard blankets or do u sleep only in the weighted blanket.
I have one and during the day it is amazing. At night i don’t know how to use it. On top of mij own blanket it is bert havy or do you use it under your own blanket. It’s A struggle for me.
But I love the effect off the weighted blanket.
I hope you will answer my question.
